Pros: Great staff. Great location. Comfortable rooms. The onsen is amazing. There is a cool reading/book area and fantastic hangout area with a fireplace. Can't say enough good things about Kougakuro.
Cons: Intermittent Internet. If you need wifi access this could be a minor issue. However, if you are in Akakura Onsen to enjoy friends, family, food, onsen and snow this shouldn't be a problem
Pros: Delicious breakfast, very friendly and efficient service provided by all staff, clean and tidy room, nice small onsen, free pick up service at Myoko Kogan Station, spacious and warm sitting area, good location about 200 meters from ski lift and several restaurants in the vicinity, most customers are foreigners and staff can communicate in good English.
Cons: Tatami room is a little outdated, wifi is weak in the evening, old type heater makes noise. It would be better if free coffee and tea can be provided in the lobby.
Pros: Mieko and the staff are always smiling and go above and beyond to your stay special. Can't wait to come back.
Pros: Good location, everything is a few minutes walk. Friendly staff, Mieko is great and speaks fluent English. l liked the Onsen and a daily breakfast was included. Also transfer from and to the station which is handy.
Pros: Locate on main street, shopping and eating very close with many choice, in front of the ski place with walking distance, breakfast is extremely good, must try dinner during your stay
Pros: Onsen in the hotel is a plus. Very good breakfast, many choice with fresh made smoothy is a must try item. Close to the ski resort by walking distance, a lot of restaurants and shops around than I expected
Pros: The staff were all so friendly and always went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed. The location was great and we were able to easily walk to restaurants and nearby ski fields. Breakfast was amazing with a western/Japanese mixed buffet. Always clean and had great spaces to meet people. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Pros: The Property Is owned and managed by Westerners but Maintains traditional Japanese Flavors. An extremely relaxing and happy environment with great staff! This place makes you feel like it is a home away from home.
Pros: Friendly staff, great location.
Cons: Top floor a hard slog after boarding
Pros: Breakfast mmmmmnmn yummmy, location couldnt be beat, staff helpful/friendly. Any questions we needed answers to the staff were there to help. Which made choosing mountains on particular days that much easier for us as we were new to the Myoko region. An introduction to how to drink saki like the japanese was a real headache, in the best way possible :). Wouldnt ask for much more from a ski trip in japan, will be back next season, and the season after. Cheers all from the Akakura Akarien From S/B with love
Cons: Getting stuck in the Japanese pow pow and not been able to move
Pros: The Akakura Akarien team welcomes you with a warm smile and makes you feel at home right from the beginning. They really go the extra mile to make your stay as perfect as possible. Accurate advice on where to best go for skiing / where snow conditions are currently best. Arranging shared transportation for keeping costs low. Great vibes!
Cons: The shared bathroom-setup makes you feel a little bit like staying in a youth hostel. But paying for a boutique hotel...
Pros: Convenient and clean
Cons: Beer too dear. Should get a large can for 600. Manageress needs to chill a bit
Pros: Great location, friendly and great staff and breakfast was good.
Cons: No bathroom or shower on our floor.
Pros: Christian and Jodie are phenomenal hosts! Easy walk to Kanko and 500¥ ride direct to Suginohara.
Cons: Onsen is only open from 4pm-8pm
Pros: This place ticked all the boxes, great location, great price and a big shout out to Carlo and the excellent staff which made the stay all the more special!
Pros: Location is pretty central and it's a short walk to ski lifts and restaurants.
Cons: Onsen wasn't available for a couple of days. Limited breakfast options. Icy walkway hadn't been salted and cleared (the hotel is up an incline: not so easy to walk up and down in ski or snowboarding boots). General casualness of management. Checked out early and stayed somewhere else in Akakura Onsen for our last night.
Located in Myoko, AKAKURA WAKUI HOTEL is in a national park, a 1-minute drive from Myoko Kogen and 7 minutes from Ikenotaira Onsen Ski Resort. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: It’s close to the centre of Myoko town. The staff were very friendly and helpful well organized. Due to flight delay, we got to the hotel at 2:30am morning, check-in was at ease. Breakfast & dinner could be arranged as needed. Free transport to Myoko train station.
Cons: lift access to part of the hotel. orher section we had to use stairs. It was a struggle having to carry 20+kg luggages up 4 levels.
Pros: Owners were very friendly and helpful. Location good if you are skiing at Akakura Onsen area. A fair walk to the Akakura Kanko base area. Breakfast was good (mostly Japanese style food).
Cons: Beds and pillows very hard and no bedside tables. It was very expensive for the level of accommodation. Rooms are small which is fairly normal for Japan but these are on the smaller side of what you might expect. The Onsen is very basic and run down - better to go to the one in the hotel across the street.
Pros: The hotel is really well located near the lifts and in the town. It is 100m from the busiest part so you don't get the noise but you are still nice and close. The hotel will go out of its way to help. They also pick you up and drop you off at the station which is a nice extra touch.
Pros: The owner is good, sometime we would need him send us to another ski area, he is willing to do so. Walking distance to one of the ski area, about 2 mins walk.
Pros: Location location. So convenient to the main ski lift #6, around 2 min walk - no need to wait for transfers, so you could come and go as needs. The host Daisuke went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. Pick up and return from Myoko train station a bonus. Would stay there again.
Cons: None to mention.
Pros: Thank you so much Daisuke, you made the stay wonderful. Nothing was ever too much trouble and you made me feel really comfortable at your hotel. I can't wait to come back. The location was brilliant and I loved how the onsen was open and available all afternoon and night.
Pros: Large room. Ladies onzen was quiet. Pictures on walls were great. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Cons: Men’s onsen a bit dirty. Breakfast could be better.
With a stay at HOTEL MOC in Myoko, you'll be just steps from Myoko Kogen and 8 minutes by foot from Akakura Onsen Ski Area. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and laundry facilities.
Pros: For breakfast we would have liked more choice with cereals and also more fresh fruit.
Cons: Internet was unreliable.
Pros: A real surprise package. A family run hotel with lovely staff. Whilst the hotel is older and lacks modern facilities, it is spotlessly clean. The dinners for ¥1,500 are sensational value. Would stay again.
Cons: The building is in need of updating, but it's location is fantastic.
Pros: It's basic, but spotless and comfy and reasonably priced, and unusually for the area has (small) in room toilet and shower. Location right across the road from the Kanko lift and shuttle bus to the other ski hills. About a 10 min walk to the centre of town for shops, bars and restaurants, but there is a secret bonus - the wonderful izakaya Pontaro a minute's walk down the street.
Cons: Breakfast at fixed time (730 or 8am only) is a little basic and limits the chances of a lie-in.
Pros: Close to village centre and slopes ! And great discounted lift tickets. Onsen / Bath was great too!
Cons: The walls were thin and you could hear everything outside your door !
Pros: Good location, room is clean, great breakfast and dinner, staff are helpful and friendly.
Pros: Excellent location and at the door step of Akakura Kanko
Pros: Hotel Moc exceeded my expectations. Would stay here again if I returned for a skiing holiday.
Pros: We enjoyed nearly everything about hotel Mumon. It was a short walk to the main street, restaurants and skiing area. Breakfast was good and the staff were very welcoming. It also had a great Onsen which we enjoyed every day after skiing. The room size was quite large and the open fireplace and decor made our stay feel very welcoming.
Cons: We really liked everything about our stay except none of the rooms had a double bed . We had two single beds pushed together instead of a double bed. We definitely would have preferred a room with a double bed.
Pros: Cosy, family run ryokan
Cons: Bit of a walk to town, no drop off service provided
Pros: Staff went above and beyond to make a comfortable and pleasant stay! The hotel onsen was very nice and the art work was really cool.
Cons: A wifi extender to allow to wifi to the rooms would have been convenient!
Pros: Family inn a short 5-10 minute stroll to main street, where you can find ample restaurants and bars. Our stay at Mumon felt like a stay in a family home. Our hosts went above and beyond with their hospitality and service. We enjoyed the onsen and a drink in the evenings by the fire in the lounge.
Cons: The snow did not arrive until our last day 24/12.
Pros: Good break to get day underway.
Cons: not much to dislike- within expectations of 2-3 star hotel.
Pros: Pick up and drop off to train. Very nice staff
Cons: Unexpected tax charge for onsens.. even though i did not use Onsen
Pros: Comfortable, charming, quiet, breakfast, staff and onsen. Drove us to Myoko Kogen train station
Cons: Bit of a walk to Kanko ski lift which if not in ski boots is no problem, however free shuttle bus stop only about 150 metres away
Pros: Very friendly family run hotel Great fish and chips Music and art Chilled vibe Close to skiing - great location
When you stay at Hotel Route-Inn Myoko Arai in Myoko, you'll be 7 minutes by car from Myoko Kogen. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, laundry facilities, and an elevator. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Breakfast was ok staff are all nice and helpful.2 thumbs up
Cons: Location.quit far from were we went which is arai resort
Pros: There’s a near convinience store and that’s whar I like ...
Cons: Nothing at all
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were nice and adequately sized. Has an Onsen which is a bit more rare for a hotel. Within 30-60mins drive from 5-10 different ski resort. Classic Japanese buffet breakfast. Right next to a Lawsons and plenty of restaurants within a medium walk or short drive
With a stay at Kofukan in Myoko, you'll be a 1-minute drive from Myoko Kogen and 9 minutes from Akakura Onsen Ski Area. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. There is a convenient hotel shuttle to the ski slopes. The owner drove us to the ski resort himself as we were outside he regular shuttle schedule. Very nice outside onsen (Japanese hot bath).
Pros: Kofukan is a wondeful family run ryokan (Japanese inn) with a great onsen in Myoko Kogen. It's a character property, older but very charming. Lovely hosts. Our family of four (teenage kids) came to Myoko for a skiing vacation. The ski storage and drying room areas are functional. Access to the slopes was not an issue as we had a car but if you had to rely on public transport it would be harder. Kofukan does provide a shuttle service to some of the fields, esp. Suginohara. We stayed in a decent sized tatami room with a small breakout area. It had a kotatsu (heated blanket low table) which we loved. You can pre-order breakfast or dinner. We had dinner there twice. The food was good. The onsen is excellent. The outdoor pool has views out towards the Seki River valley and Mt Madarao. Soak with snow falling amongst the trees. Don't expect Ritz-Carlton standards when you're not paying for it! Enjoy the experience of being in a very Japanese environment. Most of the guests were Japanese on the weekend we were there.
Cons: The adjoining private bathroom was a bit dated and cold. If you mostly use the onsen for bathing and soaking (like we did), a room without private bathroom will be perfectly fine.
Pros: Onsen on the open air and breakfast were the best!
Pros: Nice staff, good atmosphere, good view from the open bath
Cons: The food is too little, the coffee is overrated. Overall, it is a little bit expensive. The ryokan is located on the hill so it is a little bit tiring to get there, however we can ask the staff to pick us up from the station on the day of arrival.
Pros: Western breakfast was nice. Good onsen, kimono and additional towels for onsen. Coffee and tea maker and set of two coffee capsules in the room, hot water for tea in thermos. Nice view from double corner window. Very nice stuff.
Cons: Walls and floor in poor condition. Spots on carpet, old furniture. Small bathroom. Ventilation system in the room is very poor.
Pros: The manager at Kofukan was SUPER helpful and kind. Pick ups by bus from the bus station and to and from the ski field were great. He also helped to microwave store bought food and gave as much help as possible. The onsen ( hot pool ) at the place was sooooo nice. Very tidy and resort feel in the onsen area. Traditional futon with hot water in the rooms. I was gluten free which is really hard in Japan but they lent me a toaster so I could toast my own bread and were as helpful as they could be.
Cons: This isn't really a negative just a clarification point for customers. Toilet and basin facilities were shared and the only option for bathing was the hot pool ( with protocol re showering and washing first ) but the onsen area was so nice so I didn't find this a negative. If you are a very private person, not having a shower option might be an issue.
Pros: Onsen on premises. And massage chair at onsen area. Last day of stay they put in a humidifier which really helped a lot but wished they had done it earlier. Also liked the small sweets like chocolate balls n mandarin oranges they left in morning.
Cons: More chairs in room- oni had two chairs in balcony area n as it got cold couldn’t sit there comfortably for long. As I had a bad knee, a chair would have helped a lot. Also came across a big cockroach near my luggage!! :(
Pros: Everything was awesome! The staff were so good to us!
Pros: Onsen, food (both breakfast and dinner) and coffee are great. The owners were happy to drive us anywhere in the area to and from the different snow fields, even though Kofukan focusses on Suginohara they are happy to drop off and pick up from Akakura onsen or Kanko- no problem at all. They have at least 2 cars/buses they use for transport (the property has 20 rooms) and as long as you're flexible (to fit the shuttle ferrying to and fro with the requests of other guests), the owners are very flexible too. And important arrangements have priority so it works out very well.
Cons: Room too small for 2 adults and an 8 year old, also because a good chunk of the room is taken up by a large but low table with traditional Japanese drapery around it which we didn't use. We had a room with our own bathroom. It was great to have our own heated toilet but the bathroom (shower area) is completely useless- first because the onsen at the hotel is great and second because the bathroom is absolutely freezing, not super clean and very uninviting/old-fashioned. Be also aware that even though there's plenty of heaters in the room and there's lots of extra duvets and mattresses provided in the linen cupboard, the beds are freezing when you get in because they're on the ground and the floor doesn't heat up.
With a stay at Akakura Central Hotel in Myoko, you'll be just steps from Myoko Kogen and 3 minutes by foot from Akakura Onsen Ski Area. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a vending machine. Free self parking is available onsite.
