It’s a little far from the station, about 30 minutes walking, but the room is very good and definitely worth the price, and the tea in the room tastes very good.
The futon was really comfy, and everywhere looked really clean. The owner was very friendly. The area looked fun to to explore, and it wasn't too far from the castle.
There's only one bathroom/ shower room, so use between men and women is on a rotation schedule. It was a little inconvenient as I had to wait to use the shower, but it didn't ruin my stay at all. Just something to be aware of.
It was an old ryokan who had seen better days. The room was old. We slept on futon which was comfortable. But the airline wasn’t working very well, it was hot at some point in the night cos the blanket was thick and comfortable. The bathroom was shared, you have to follow a strict showering female and male schedule. You have to strip naked as there are no cubicles! But the water was heavenly. It is just like an onsen bathing room except that there was no onsen. Hikone town is quiet. The shops close at 8 pm so grab your dinner and early. Otherwise you have to do a takeout from Lawson convenience store.
The lighting in the room and the aircon that didn’t work.
Owner was very friendly and the ryokan is actually quite nice with a small garden. Room was spacious. The Ryokan is also somewhat near Hikone castle and the train station so that's a great boon. Do consider getting the bfast and dinner package though. It smells nice from my room.
Laundry service was available. The staff would wash and dry your clothes, you don't have to fumble with the machine and hang your own clothes. The staff did everything for me, even folded my clothes and had it packed nicely in a basket for me the next morning. Also bicycles were available for use for free. So even though the location of the place was quite far from the main sightseeing areas, the bicycle helped me travel quickly to these places. Also the owner seeing that I had a lot of luggage, offered to send me to the station.
The toilet area was unisex. There was no partition segregation between the 2 urinal and the 2 toilet bowels. So I'm not sure how it would work if both a man and a woman were to use the that space.
