Bed was comfy.
No hot water - couldn't get a shower. Didn't have time to 'complain', due to train delays and dashing out to meet colleagues. Followed shower instructions and waited a long time but still no hot water came. I was home too late to ask for the shower to be fixed so had to go without in the morning too before leaving for my morning train. No reply to my email asking for partial refund so booking.com chased up an answer. They said that because I never raised it on the day then they weren't interested in giving any refund. An expected but really disappointing response. Won't be using them next time. Just for info - taxi was a tenna into the centre from this hotel.
The room was a great size and although it's right on the road it was very quiet inside. The location is great with a bus stop just across the road that has a number of buses that stop there and take you straight to the city center, including the 300 for the airport. You can walk to the center easily and the route is full of shops and restaurants. There's a great 24hr garage less then 5min walk from the room for anything extra and because you're just that little bit further out it is a calm and quiet stretch which at New Year we very much appreciated when we eventually got back to bed!
The rooms was a tad cold and we were lucky that the weather was warm for December. However, we asked for an extra heater which we were given, brand new, and without hesitation. The staff explained they were looking into keeping the heat in better given the historic nature of the buildings which is understandable. The bathroom retained a lot of moisture so perhaps a change of fan might be needed but really it was a great spot.
It was Ok, near to the city center
Rooms were basic and needed soundproofing. We were given the room next to the front door so inevitable heard everyone else coming and going. The bathroom was freezing. Staff were invisible after our check in. We loitered several times in reception in order to discuss our room and our unhappiness with it. At no time did we see anyone who worked at the premises. Despite providing credit card details in advance, The Thrums took full payment upon check in - an unusual step in my experience. No breakfast was provided. This may have been an oversight on our part when we booked several months ago. However for the cost of the room I would’ve thought hot breakfast would be part of the service.
The room was small but really comfortable and warm. Great off road parking too.
The bathroom was tiny and old. Also when I booked it said we could pay for breakfast on arrival but this wasn't the case as we were told they weren't doing breakfast. Yet it was advertised in the room for £9.50!
