Pros: Location ideal for our needs. It was very clean, tidy and modern.
Cons: We found it difficult to get channels on the TV, it kept saying due to atmospheric conditions a channel was unavailable . However this kept changing channel to channel very randomly. This was very annoying and seems it is a technical issue not atmospheric conditions. Hopefully this has been sorted.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the sitting area. The kitchen and bathroom were lovely too, with a nice shower and toiletries. The bed was very comfortable. The supply of tea and coffee was very good, and Cookie Time cookies were a nice treat.
Cons: The parking area is very narrow, I wouldn't want to have a large vehicle and several little things were not in keeping with the rest of the accommodation standard. The flannels provided were so cheap they were see-through yet the towels were luxurious, and the toilet paper was also very cheap - single ply I think!! And they provided a very nice coffee plunger - one cup size, yet provide sachets of ground coffee for a two cup pot.
10,0 Excellent

Pros: A beautiful and peaceful place to stay. Our cottage was wonderful - spacious, comfortable, beautifully furnished and decorated and it was kept warm and cosy for us. It was great to sit on the lovely terrace and enjoy listening to all the birds. A real haven. Also a great location on the peninsula and only 15 minutes from the Royal Albatross Centre and the little blue penguins.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Neat location with elevated views of the harbour and handy to some great drives, walks and attractions. Cozy unit, quiet, fully equipped, excellent bed.. Our unit had a bird feeder in the native bush below us so were treated to a fantastic display of Tui and Bellbirds over breakfast. Very relaxing, great sleep and would definitely stay again for longer as there are some great coastal drives on the peninsula.
Cons: Not a complaint, but note that Portobello is 20 minutes drive from Dunedin city so it's best for a relaxing time away enjoying the albatross/penguins, walks and views. There is a pub and a few cafes a minute or two's walk away, plus full cooking facilities in the unit.

Pros: stunning location and rooms with a view. even the bathroom had an incredible view north across the bay. generous breakfast - very delicious and bottomless cups of tea. lovely staff who were friendly and helpful. LOVED the gardens and as we were staying overnight we had plenty of time to explore the property and grounds. so worth it.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had 2 lodge rooms both with double and single beds. The rooms both had amazing views of the waterways around the Otago Peninsula. The rooms were warm and comfortable with modern bathrooms. Staying on the Castle grounds gave us the opportunity to eat at the castle for dinner which was a unique experience. Arriving in the rain, we were immediately met by Peter who had umbrellas. Staff were attentive and helpful throughout our stay. The gardens are magnificent and well worth a long wander through. Breakfast in the stables was delicious and options were ample. Scallop entree and Lamb entree recommended.
Cons: Bed was warm but far too soft/squishy. Castle dinner is very pricey for meals that were not prefect. Kids options need to be revamped - not all children enjoy fried foods all the time.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we arrived at the gates it was great. The staff were friendly especially the staff at the Stables who helped do up my top button on my shirt. Great value for money especially the lovely cooked breakfast. We were there for the investiture and they couldn't of picked a better place to have it. I will definitely be back before Christmas.
Cons: I liked everything
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience was exceptional. Floor heating in bathroom was a lovely bonus. The view from shower was spectacular. Dinner was excellent food and a great way to meet other guests. Breakfast in the stables was generous and high quality. The castle grounds are magnificent. And the tour of the castle was excellent.
Cons: Nothing - it was beyond my expectation.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Food was amazing, both dinner and Breakfast. Very comfy bed
7,9 Good
Pros: Beautiful outlook over the Otago Peninsula. The location worked well as a base for exploring the peninsula and wasn't too far back into Dunedin. Nice clean, well maintained room. Good breakfast included in the room rate along with complimentary access to Larnach Castle. The breakfast was served in the old stables so there was lots of interesting history associated with the place.
Cons: Our room door was a bit finicky and we return one day to find the cleaning staff hadn't checked to ensure the room was locked. Nothing missing though.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely setting and great location. Breakfast and dinners were nice.
Cons: Priced a bit high for the type of accommodation. Service and accommodation is resting on its laurels (the setting and location).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely - they could not have been more helpful. Dinner at the castle was delicious and a great experience. The views from our room in The Lodge were stunning and we now want to install a heated floor in our bathroom! Breakfast was substantial and tasty. We also had high tea which was great value and simply yummy!
Cons: That we had to leave!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience of staying and having dinner was amazing felt like we were house guests at a lodge. Our room had the most amazing views. We also enjoyed afternoon tea on arrival. The grounds of hotel are beautiful and the location of hotel and the drive there were fabulous. Loved that a stay includes castle visit and garden access at no cost.
Cons: Arrived 10 mins early to check in and asked to park in a different area till check in time (by person at gate)
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The history of the castle, special design for the stable. Excellent view of the lodge.
Cons: The beds are too soft. not very comfortable
9,3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a lodge room and had dinner at the Castle. We enjoyed our stay. The grounds were beautiful, breakfast great and staff very helpful. The internet is quick and the room well equipped with a great view of the harbor. We had stayed here years ago when the stables were the only accomodations and was nice also. We did see the Camp Estates from the road ,but did not see what the rooms looked like. It is down the road so you would need to drive to the Castle as it is too far to walk.
Cons: The dinner was for 26 people so it was held in the piano room not the dining room. It was better when it was a smaller group years ago and in the dining room. Now that there are more lodging rooms the dinners are larger. This is because if you stay here you have the opportunity to dine in the Castle It did seem that they needed more help serving as tea and coffee was not served until more than half the guests had left. Also the history of the house and family was not done until most people had left. the staff mentioned that they were working three rooms at once.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The beautiful surroundings.

6,3 Good
Pros: Parking and free wifi (although variable) Proximity to city centre
Cons: The rooms are not sound proofed. A lot of noise from the rooms above with people simply moving around and coming down the stairs - all the time. Rooms are outdated and signs of damp rot in the bathroom. Low shower rose for even an average height person - you have to be a contortionist to get your head under the rose. 2 Shower taps - not a mixer. Good shower pressure though. Soap and shampoo dispensers awkward to use and dispense outwards instead of downwards. (For shower photo rotate anti-clockwise 90 degrees !) No cooking facilities - just toaster / jug/ microwave. The bare minimum of cutlery and crockery stored in a bottom cupboard under the sink. No kitchen rubbish bins for rubbish and recycling. Wifi was variable throughout the room ranging from 1 bar on the bed to 3 bars near the window. At least the bed was OK, but in general very average facilities. Even the meet and greet person at reception on arrival was pretty disinterested.

Cons: Somehow the water temperature in the shower fluctuated whilst showering one minute cold one minute very hot one min warm .Couldn't quite get that regulated to a constant temperature Perhaps a top up of toiletries and milk and coffee for plunger would have been nice during the 4 day stay
