On arrival the hotel looks beautiful especially in the sunshine. The grounds are lovely including the wildlife as we saw a small deer/muntjac in the grounds the following morning. The bed was very comfortable and big which was nice. The staff were friendly although at times we struggled with asking for things (such as at breakfast) as they didn't understand what we meant.
When we arrived our room seemed to have rather a lot of flies in the windows which we had to keep getting out the window or swatting which wasn't very nice. The heating was on and it was very warm in the whole hotel we had to sleep with our window open all night as we couldn't turn one radiator off. While the room was large and the bed very comfy and while it was clean, the overall feel was that this particular room was a little run down and definitely could have done with painting and some work in the bathroom on the lights and also the shower screen - which was basically work that had been done previously and not finished to a high standard. The blinds in the conservatory were terribly faded and when they were put down the top bit was the proper colour and the bottom lighter, it just made it look so old. Considering the current situation with COVID19 there were no notices in the hotel anywhere and no hand sanitisers - until the day we checked out when there was a tiny bottle on the reception desk. We did actually leave a day early due to being anxious about the situation which was a shame but needed to make sure that we were OK.
The room, breakfast , staff efficiency/ politeness, cleanliness
No spa but understandable in the circumstances ( Covid 19 ).
The staff amazing and very helpful. Breakfast was fabulous and conservatory beautiful. Tbe grandeur of the property outstanding. Will definitely go back.
Cleanliness could be better, dusty bathroom and skirtings. Cracked sink in bathroom.
Lovely old decor . Awesome massive bath too .
Overpriced . Quite rundown. Needs a good paint , clean and some New carpets to freshen the place up. Personally think it’s rated better than it actually is. Wasn’t very clean in the room at all. Splashes of other people’s toothpaste on the tiles, dirty windows, carpet jigsawed together ,dusty plug sockets and headboard, really old tv it worked but was very old. We stayed in 3 hotels over 3 nights. This was the most expensive and the worst. Took a look at the spa also looked run down not very welcoming . The lady was lovely who we spoke to though.
Room very good, evening meal excellent. Service very good at all times.
Weather was not good
