Also, although it shows that Ace is at the Minneapolis airport, it’s not. It’s only upon arriving at the airport that you see a sign to pick up the phone and call them. Then you have to wait for someone to come pick you up in a shuttle van to drive you to their location

ChereseFeb 2026

The company is good at informing the customer that their location is not the same as other rental companies at MSP airport. Plan for a few extra minutes to be shuttled to and from the terminal, and you’ll have a great experience!

Stayed downtown first day and were able to take light rail back to airport when we needed to venture out of the cities. This saved on a day of rental and parking and we didn’t mind seeing the city on foot.

Choose off-site car pickup as upon your return the drop off location will save you time. Especially important if you have family waiting for you while you’re returning the rental car.

Make sure to have your navigation set up before you drive. There’s lots of construction in the metro area. (Still!) Speed limits are “minimum” 40 up to 60 on average on the freeway around MSP so be mindful of that, esp in f your used to driving in Phoenix or So Cal.

No not really except, try to familiarize yourself with the Nav system is important. Also know where the important buttons are before getting right into traffic.

Rent a car at the Minneapolis airport upon your arrival to get to your destination fast. It only takes a 20-minute drive into the city center and you can explore one of the “Twin Cities” of Minnesota at your own pace. If you want to explore surrounding areas like the Fort Snelling State Park, which is about 10 miles from the city center, or St. Paul, Minnesota’s capital, a hire car will get you out and about most efficiently.
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has various car hire companies at your disposal. Travelers arriving at Terminal 1 Lindbergh should proceed to the second or third levels for car hire service desks. If landing at Terminal 2 Humphrey, go to the ground floor, where you will find the Ground Transport Center. Both terminals feature the same companies, including Hertz, National, and Avis.
Congestion and traffic jams are a regular issue in Minneapolis, especially during peak times (around 7-9 AM and 4-7 PM). To ease the congestion a little, traffic control agents are in place and it is pivotal to follow their orders and to only cross an intersection if you can make it all the way across without blocking the road. Also note that many streets in Minneapolis are one way, so be careful and watch out for the signs to avoid going in the wrong direction.
Winters in Minnesota can bring lots of snow, sleet, and ice, so be aware of that when traveling to Minneapolis during the colder months. The city is also known to be best equipped for dire weather conditions, but streets can still become narrower due to snow ploughs pushing the snow to both sides. At intersections, it may also be harder to see other vehicles around the corner when the snow is piled high, so proceed with caution at intersections.

No sooner than we drove off the lot we had to turn back around because we saw the light on the dashboard showing that one of the tires was nearly flat. We turned back around and when I went back in and told them that one of the tires was flat, there was no apology, no “I’m so sorry for the inconvenience”. The employee said nothing, she just went outside and got another car for us.

i love your staff at Minneapolis they are friendly and very helpful. the 800 customer service is only okay. we had a medical issue and had to extend one day and the cost was Higher then our daily rate. this was not the best service. i was on the phone for over 30 minutes. i also think it would be helpful for a Walk around and quick overview of vehicle when we pick up. this is done when we drop off, so it seems weird not to have that completed at time of pickup. these are small things .. my overall impression is still really good.

I arrived at MSP late, due to a delayed flight. When I got to the Thrifty counter, it was closed, with a sign directing me to the Hertz Gold booth on another floor. After slogging to the Hertz Gold booth, I found a long line being serviced by one employee, who repeatedly left to...well, I'm actually not sure what he was doing. But to be generous, he may have been going to deal with issues in the parking lot. (Just before I reached the counter, a second employee did finally arrive in the booth.) From the time I arrived at the booth to the moment I pulled out of the parking garage watt over one hour. The booth was just grossly understaffed to provide efficient service. I blame horrible management. Of course it was a Hertz booth, not a Thrifty booth. But if Thrifty is going to rely on Hertz to provide services to Thrifty's customers, Thrifty will have to accept responsibility for Hertz's awful service.

Most of the process was really good - easy pick up, pleasant staff, clean car, etc. BUT... the child car seats are totally mediocre and overpriced. Also, the text messages for 'check in', a few days/week ahead lead a person to think it's required (it's not). And thru that check in prompt, the company wants to get all your personal info AND your picture sent to them. Thrifty has forgotten about personal image and data privacy concerns and headed toward the 'big brother' way. Very disappointed by this aspect. Also very disappointed by the call center time. It's typical oversees information - totally unhelpful and language impaired. They basically repeat what can be found thru the web site and not able to offer more information. Blaagch!

Had to cancel because despite advice from Hertz before I booked, my additional driver could not pick up vehicle I made reservation for. Also Hertz couldn’t take my DL # off an old company account, even though my personal gold # was older & had my DL but date was expired. Great AI experience- would not direct me to liver person & cost $200+ for cancellation fee & 3rd party insurance scam that wouldn’t cancel.

The person helping at pick up was very nice. The vehicle was good. However, when I booked the car online, I paid $71.99 rental & $18 insurance in advance. When I was sent my final receipt, I was charged $213. We rented the car for less than 8 hours & the total was over $300 for a standard SUV. If this amount is correct, I'm very frustrated this total wasn't disclosed upon renting. Now I have to spend time trying to contact Hertz to discuss or dispute charges.

Full-size

Process is virtual, it is a booth at the back of the hotel. There can be technical issues. There is a phone number to call but sometimes they do not pick up. Also you need to have active auto insurance, your credit card insurance/etc. is not enough so make sure you bring a copy of that. Felt like that was sprung on me without warning. Car itself was fine and drop off was easy.

Supplier choice

It was a little confusing getting to the dollar counter and getting the car. The rental car smelled like smoke, and apple CarPlay (Bluetooth) kept on disconnecting multiple times.

Terrible customer service. They tried to sneak in basic coverage in my rental. Don’t rent from the Minneapolis airport!
