Not in the airport terminal, need to take a shuttle.

To arrange for the shuttle bus to collect us in order to pick up the car, it was necessary to phone the office, this was not possible for me as my phone would not work in Guadeloupe. Once the car was handed over to us, we were told where to find it and that was it. We had to go back in to the office a couple of times to ask how to do certain things, for example, how we opened the boot. If a member of staff had accompanied us to the car this would have alleviated the necessity for this as they would have been on hand to explain.

Pros:

Agent who delivered the vehicle was very helpful with packing our suitcases. It was kind of tricky to fit all of them and four of us in the small VW Polo. We’ve had no idea how to approach that task, but he did excellent job. We were able to drive comfortably to our destination in St. Francois.

Cons:

It was our first time on Guadeloupe. Better or more info/signs that show direction to the rental counter at the airport would be helpful.

That because my flight landed late I was given a car not matching what I've booked and then I had to close le the next day to change it Also while you think you book with Hertz it appears that this is a child company with kind of minor services

We rented a really small car (Kia Picanto). The car had about 30k km driven, was clean and got us around. Only minor issue was fuel indicator which apparently broke (was showing 1/4 less). Paid around EUR 600 for 14 days, inclusive of basic insurance and a child seat. If you travel to the Basse Terre part of Guadeloupe, consider renting something more powerful - I had to keep the engine in high revs all the time to make it up the hills, sometimes even in 1st gear :). Otherwise it just didn't go. Also the car has a rather low ground clearance, so we had to be super careful on desolate roads. The staff at the rental point was really friendly and helpful. I was short on time when returning the car, they arranged a shuttle just for me to get me to airport quickly. During pick-up/drop-off, there was always someone who spoke some English (I barely speak any French, so that helped a lot). Note: The rental place is not located in walking distance from the terminals, at least not with baggage. It's in the vicinity of the terminals, <1 km away. There's a shuttle going between the rental place and the airport. Almost all the rentals are at basically the same place, if confused, just ask for "location de voitures" and you're likely to arrive at the right place :).

The roads were French - but CAUTION RADAR TRAPS EVERYWHERE IN FRANCE GUADELOUPE, ATTENTION LES TOURISTES, ILS ENVOIENT LES AMENDES PAR POSTE FRANCAISE...

Cons:

AGENCY IS FAR OFF AIRPORT, THE RATE IS ONLY A FRACTION OF THE CHECK OUT COSTS. THE 1 MILE OVER THE SPEED LIMIT RADAR TRAPS, ARE $100 EACH, THEY ARE RIGGED FOR TOURISTIQUES VISITEURS, THEY WILL GET YOU THROUGH FRANCE GOVT, TRULY

Pros:

The car was clean and automatic like we requested and got good gas mileage.

Cons:

The headlights barely lit up anything in front makin seeing the roads very difficult and dangerous at night unless we used the high beams which isn't possible when there is oncoming traffic. Also, the agent was late for dropping off the car in morning causing us to almost miss our flight since there were a lot of folks waiting to drop off in morning with us.

They required a $2000 deposit on top of the rental price unless we purchased insurance, even though my credit card had equivalent insurance. Then even when we paid the extra $180 for insurance they required an additional $600 deposit on top of the rental price.

The process of pickup and drop off were both very efficient. The staff is very kind, polite and knowledgeable. From the shuttle pickup, I was treated disarmingly nicely. With what felt like genuine kindness and consideration. The car was clean and it ran well, and I had no issues at all over the 10 days I drove it. At the end of my stay, I was late getting to my flight for drop off and was in a bit of a rush, and they were sensitive to this without me even noting it. They timed the shuttle so it was ready to go right when they finished processing my return. I will definitely use Avis when returning to Guadeloupe. First class service.

The deposit for the car hasn't cleared, 10 business days after the transaction. This has been very frustrating, financially. Otherwise it was fine.

Despite choosing Budget for its price, and declining the insurance, upon picking up the car we were told that to decline the insurance we would need to leave a $12,000 deposit!! We were basically forced to take the insurance for $10/day.

We were forced to buy car insurance even though we made it clear to them that my credit card covers car rental insurance on international trips. In addition they placed a €800 block on my card as well. Very disappointed and frustrated to argue with the attendent at the counter after a long flight to get there.

Slow service, lengthy wait for shuttle, language barrier; reservation indicated drop-off would be when office closed, but clerk did not volunteer how that should be done and customer left to squeeze out that info. Would not accept well known 3rd party international Allianz Car Rental Insur. policy as reason to reduce or eliminate required large credit card deposit.
