The car was really dirty at pick up. The front window had squished bugs all over it. I had to clean it when I got to my destination so I could see through it better. Almost took it through a car wash but decided why should I pay for that when your company should do it before delivering it to me. Also the inside was very dusting and the floors were not vacuumed. My spouse was really upset how dirty the car was. Never had that problem before. Otherwise the car was good and worked as well as expected. I understand the person at the Lakewood site for pickup was a one person show and I could not see if there was a way to clean the car, but you need to do something there to make sure the cars are cleaned before turning them over. Felt I had to pay a little too much for a dirty car.

Passenger van

Can was older, had no way to play music except through aux cord. Radio antennae had been stolen and the van was all dented up. Had a plastic piece hanging off that flapped a lot as we drove. The staff was super friendly and helpful though. However, when I came by to drop off, there was only one employee in the whole establishment, and I waited for 10+ minutes before I even saw her! Again though, the staffer was friendly and helpful.

there were no cars available., 2 clerks spent their time with one customer on questions one could have handled. we were ignored, and we were the only other ones in there. After 20 minutes one said "be with you in a minute" - we were all within 3 feet of each other. finally one asked what we wanted, we said we had a 10:30 reservation, then they said there were no cars. we again explained we had a reservation for a 10:30a pick up. They said people were extending their times and they'd put us on a waiting list but would probably be 4;30 at the earliest. There were cars in the lot. they said they weren't available. They did not offer to help us find anything anywhere else. Had a "too bad - nothing we can do" attitude. kept looking at their phones and computers. Then at 11:30 left, with us still inside on our own trying to find another car rental place with availability, they left. They shad our contact info and should have let us know in advance there would be no cars available. We had taken public transportation to get there as neither of us had a car. We ended up renting from Enterprise. I will never use Hertz again and am skeptical about using Kayak again for car rentals. You should have a policy that the rental companies you offer are required to notify customers if there will be a delay in obtaining their rental vehicle. We wasted over 2 hours trying to rent a car and missed our appointment for which we needed the car. Very poor experience.

Horrible experience. I prepaid for a car and when I went to pick it up they told me they had no cars. Did nothing to try and help me and I’m still fighting with hertz to get me money back. They suck.

I took an Uber that cost me $55 and came to pick up the car. They told me they don't have a car available for me and this was a non-refundable booking. And the person helping me wasn't nice about it all. This experience has been both inconvenient and disappointing.

Even though I had a confirmation from Hertz, when I arrived at the location they specified, there was no car. The people who worked there were rude, loud, unhelpful. They told me my best option was to take an Uber 40 mins north to another location ($100 Uber ride). So not use this service! And do not if you can help it try to rent a car from Hertz in Tacoma because a reservation means 0.

I reserved a car through kayak, made plans dependent on that car, then was told an hour before picking up the car that there were no cars available. Never renting a car through Hertz or Kayak again !
