Liked the vehicle and liked the agent at the pick-up location. Did not like them not having a car ready for us at the scheduled time. Had to wait for them to receive a car back and then clean it up for us. Also did not like the drop off location. Extremely confusing to find.

My car was a 2020 Mazda that could barely get up hills. The Cabot trail is all hills. The car had 80,000 Km on it. The engine sounded as is it wanted to blow up when it was just sitting there idling. It would rev up to 4000 RPM regularly and went through almost 5 tanks of gas. For the price I paid I would have liked a newer vehicle. The staff wasn’t very friendly either, and when I called to inquire about a different drop off point in Halifax the guy was rude to me, even starting the conversation with just ‘Hello’ lol Terrible experience all around

Yes the staff was helpful and polite. Most notably the return was exceptionally quick and easy.

Cons:

More counter help. The customer in front of me asked EVERY question imaginable and some that were unimaginable and then of course the attendant was trying to up sell. Sorry but the last thing you want to do after a long day of traveling is to wait in line unnecessarily. Once they got done our transaction went smoothly and we were on our way.

I had requested a sedan. Upon arrival, I was advised the only option was a jeep. This was very disappointing. I regularly drive an SUV but the jeep was large and boxy. I was on edge driving the vehicle throughout my rental period. While I do recognize rental vehicles are in short supply due to a shortage of cars and high demand, I continue to be frustrated that my 'only option' was presented as a jeep while others before and after me were provided with easier to drive options. I was relieved to drop the jeep off at the airport. I considered returning it after day 1 but the flexibility and understanding shown by Hertz staff was cold and verged on inconsiderate. When I am spending over $900 to rent a car for 5 days, my expectations are high. With my daughter in University at Dalhousie, we will return to the area. I will be very hesitant to rely on Hertz in the future or mentally prepare myself for substandard customer service.
