  • Jordan is beautiful, but its public transportation system is lacking and only covers its main cities. Therefore, renting a car is the smartest move for tourists visiting the area, especially if you want to see attractions like the ancient ruins of Petra, Mujib Nature Reserve, or the Dead Sea.
  • Amman Airport serves much of the country of Jordan. It is a very large airport with lots of amenities and services including numerous car hire agencies. With offices in the arrival terminal, you can quickly rent a car from many well-known car hire companies such as Avis, Budget, National, or Thrifty.
  • Although it is a small country, Jordan is well-developed with a strong highway system and modern roads. You’ll find it easy to drive on the roads; however, laws for driving are not so strict. For example, many drivers do not use turn signals or wear seat belts. It’s also important to note that road signs are in Arabic, which can be a challenge.
  • Traffic in Amman can get quite busy during commuting or rush hours. It can get busiest downtown from about 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., as most governmental employees must be to work by 8 a.m. It starts to get busy for the evening commute at 2:30 p.m., but typically slows down at about 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. In the morning, traffic is most hectic coming into downtown. And in the evening, it is busiest going away from downtown.

Gas tank was empty when we picked up car. Told attendant and he replied “gas station is near, no problem”. Told him this is unexceptable he said “no problem”. Just bring it back empty. I said d how can we bring it back empty?? We ran out of gas approx 100 yds from gas station!! After getting gas noticed that “low tire pressure” light was on. They had not checked tire pressure when we picked up car!! Brought back car with almost 1/2 tank gas. Asked for credit and attendant said that is not possible. He said they never fill up tank before rental because they were getting cheated by other customers who would bring back cars with less gas than they started!! What kind of bullshit is this? What kind of car rental is this? Very upset with this transaction!

It went well! It was in the airport so easy pick up and return but I wanted few more hours and i had to pay for a full day, The price for the extra day was expensive compared to what i paid for the 4 days. I got a speeding ticket too so i had to pay extra but it was easy to get back my deposit on the spot!

The staff at the Dollar location in Queen Alia Airport (Amman - Jordan) are very unprofessional. They will find any way to charge you extra money for your rental. They lie to their teeth about the condition of the car when you return it so they can charge you extra money. Avoid this place at all costs. If you really have to book a car from this place, make sure to take so many pictures of the car before you pick it up and document all scratches, otherwise, they will find the smallest old scratch and charge for it.

Do not consider this company! It’s a bunch of thugs who run a scam! Even though I had a confirmed reservation, once I arrived at the pick up location, the agent informed me that he has no available cars and that the website is not working properly! I went to a different location and upon entering the office, the two agents were actively smoking and said they have no cars available, even though there were available cars visible outside!

The car we booked wasn’t available so we had to pay extra to get a bigger car. If it had been a free upgrade then I would have been happy with that but the fact we had to pay for it wasn’t acceptable.

When I arrived at the Thrifty office in the Amman airport, they added a $100 charge for dropping the car off at a different office. I indicated the drop off when booking through kayak, but it did not mention an additional charge. It was a surprise and it felt like I was getting ripped off through an unnecessary charge. I would have shopped around or adjusted my itinerary if I had known about the charge. Nothing "Thrifty" about a hidden fee.
