As a rule of thumb, compacts and small economy cars are more manoeuvrable, fuel efficient and cheaper than other classes and are highly recommended for singles and couples who tend to travel on a tighter budget. Passenger vans, people carriers and large SUVs offer the advantages of increased seating capacity and cargo space, making them ideal transport for groups and families. When cost is not an object, a late-model convertible or luxury car with premium features is the way to go.

When driving along the highways in Almancil, speeds up to 120 km/h are allowed, but in less populated areas closer to town, reduce your speed to about 90 km/h. The maximum limit in the town centre and residential areas is 50 km/h. It is illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, so be responsible and drive safely as you go. In case of emergencies, dial 112.

When you’re planning ahead, accommodations with in-house parking facilities are always attractive options, but if you’re driving on the fly, street parking will have to do. Blue Zones are streets with pay-and-display metered parking, or you can use a public/private garage for extended time periods. As an alternative, you can consider a park-and-ride option, to escape dealing with heavy traffic in the downtown area.
