Pros: Residence U Cerne Veze Ceske Budejovice is an apartment hotel with rooms across a number of adjacent buildings in a typical Old Town street just a few minutes’ walk from the central Square. We stayed in the very large one-bedroomed apartment known as ‘Top View’ with a rooftop terrace and views over parts of the Old Town. This particular unit was accessed via a traditional lift in a mostly office-based building with various security gates to pass through and the last floor to climb by a stairway. The kitchen and furnishings were new and there was an enormous number of storage cupboards. Breakfasts were adequate and were served on the first floor of a restaurant (no lift) that also forms one part of the complex. Towels were changed every 3 days and sheets every 5. Reception was helpful and English-speaking. Parking is a few hundred metres away where a security barrier protects an outdoor parking place.

Pros: We stayed for 2 nights in Residece U Cerne veze Apartments – one large room with a queen size bed, small kitchenette with 2 hotplates and a fridge, chairs, and an ensuite bathroom with a washing machine. Fast and reliable wifi, plus a flat screen TV. Breakfast was included and was a great selection of cereals, bread, eggs and other hot food, cold meats, juice, tea and coffee. Everything in the apartment was very clean and tidy. The apartment is one of several in a central building with security gates at the entrance that are locked at night, but can be opened with the room key. You can either park outside on the street, or reserve parking in a nearby parking space for Euro 6 per day, which is a very reasonable day rate. All communication via email was prompt and efficient, and instructions for check in and parking were excellent. This is a great location for visiting Cesky Krumlov which is a 30min drive away and is an easy day trip.

Cons: The last floor to climb by a stairway. Some towels were a little worn. We had to press for the sheets to be changed for some reason. There is no daily maid service and cleaning was most limited on the days when sheets or towels were changed.

Cons: There was problem with the hot watter in the Friday midnight. We spent more than hour waiting for it. At first the staff advised us "let it flow and wait", after twenty minutes they tried it in other rooms on the floor. After this we had to take shower with pretty cold watter. So we went to bed much later then we wanted and pretty upset. The next day by check out there was no excuse, no "sorry gift", they proceed the check out and after we have asked for some refund, the lady said, we are going to get small discount (about 15%). She tried to persue us, that it was problem in the whole city, but we could not believe, because the staff in the night behaved like it is routine problem in the hotel.

Pros: The Grand Hotel Zvom is a very classy hotel located on the square in Ceske Budejovice. The square is perhaps one of the main shopping areas of the city and contains lots of nice shops and a couple of restaurants. The hotel room was very nice, including a tub in the bathroom. Beds and pillows were comfortable as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was included in the rate we paid, and it was good. We chose the hotel because some of the reviews indicated its close proximity to the train station. I guess it depends on how one defines “close.” It was between ½ to ¾ of a mile, so one might give some consideration to that. There appeared to be one or two taxis at the train station that could be useful. Associated with the hotel are one or two restaurants, including one that features another local beer, not Budvar which Ceske Budejovice is famous for. Naturally, we tried both of them. If one is a beer lover, one will not be disappointed by either of the beers featured.

Cons: The rooms get hot during the summer. The hotel provides an electric fan, but this does little to cool the room. As with most upper end hotels in Bohemia, lots of Chinese tourists. During this trip, the Chinese guest overloaded the electrical circuits and caused a power outage in the wing where my room was situated. It took 45 minutes for power to be restored and shorted out the electrical fan. I went without a fan for 90 minutes. Not cool during a heat wave. The hotel provides limited amenities (liquid multi use soap for shampoo, body wash).

Cons: Took forever for a trainee receptionist to complete check-in, 7 (seven) full Chinese buses of guests permanently blocking all elevators and breakfast room - therefore there was absolutely NO possibility to take (paid/included) breakfast. Next day there was another contingent of buses with Chinese, this seems to be some kind of Hub hotel for them...colleague of mine got seriously ill during our stay likely from the CN masses pushing through elevators and hallways...truly awful.

Cons: There were no towels provided, beds were uncomfortable (in my opinion) and my boyfriend woke up with a very sore back from the beds. He had to sleep on the ground our 2nd night because of it. There was a kitchen on each floor, but each kitchen was lacking a lot. One kitchen just had silverware, the next just had pans, the next had oil, etc. so we had to gather utensils from every kitchen in order to cook a meal.
