James and Hansel were very welcoming. They let us collect the keys early and showed us around quickly before we went off to HOYS. The honest box is always welcomed by the kids after a long day shopping and watching performances - a mid night treat! Breakfast was lovely and we all went away full!
One thing was, I think the rooms could do with new pillows, but other than that all was good :-)
All very god
Great breakfast, great location to Birmingham NEC, good parking facilities.
Received many messages before check-in asking what time we would be arriving even though check-in was given a specific slot (3-10pm) this made me feel that already I was to be an inconvenience to the couple because I could not provide an exact time between those hours! We checked in fine and paid on arrival (normally pay on departure) we were then asked what time we would like breakfast as they were very busy the next day (breakfast was between hours of 7-10am) again this made me feel to be an inconvenience as I had to be specific to times, we decided as we were leaving to go back to the NEC early in the morning that we would like breakfast at 7:15/7:30ish. After this conversation we returned back to the NEC to enjoy the rest of our evening having left earlier to check in. We returned back at 11pm to find the front door code was not working so we rang the door bell to be told somebody had locked the door and put the chain on. I personally have never experienced other guests locking the front door from the inside however the short response again made us feel we were in the wrong for being locked out. We settled down for the night and all I will say is the walls are very thin and you can hear everything meaning the best sleep was not had, the short response was probably due to the fact we interrupted their evening. However if the door had not been bolted and chained then no interruption would of occurred. The next morning we were greeted by James who advised us we were “late” for breakfast at 7:45 so I advised him we decided to have a lie in due to not being able to sleep due to nosies, James then said well he was woken up by the doorbell at 11 so he hadn’t had the best sleep either. . . wow! I did not enjoy having to provide exact times for things as unfortunately when you plan a girls trip with your friends the idea is you go away for a break and be away from routine.
It was in a good location with good size room - very attentive owners/staff. Lovely hot breakfast and comfy bed. Good size shower.
Shower wasn’t that powerful There was a constant buzzing from a socket timer connecting a cable to a place above my room (not suitable for a guest room) Terrible pump noise that (like a toilet or water system) that went on non stop )it woke me up and keep me awake from 1.30am to 2.30am - I finally feel asleep with second pillow over my head. (Needs sorting for future guests) Tv was positioned on side wall so impossible to watch unless you sat in a chair - not great for evening bed viewing (needs a swivel bracket)
Excellent breakfast, room suited our needs perfectly and owners very helpful
