Excellent staff who were all very friendly and helpful. Great location, imposing building and lovely grounds. Room really nice - we loved the lights. If we were coming again we’d ask for a room looking over the garden. We had a front facing room but whatever we were next to (the heating?) we had a very low background hum. It wasn’t a problem but a garden room would, I think, be even nicer.
Some small changes would make this an even better place to stay. We overlooked the entrance which was lit till late. Given the curtains were thin a pull down blind would have enabled us to darken the room. In our bathroom (room 17) the fawcett fixture on the bath was cracked and there were holes in the tiles which didn’t look great. Be good not to have to ask for milk for the coffee... We chose this hotel because of the gym and spa. The cycle and cross trainer weren’t working at all and the multi-gym only partially functioning; there were lots of flies in the pool and no staff there. Very basic changing cubicles too. If this is being promoted as a spa hotel the spa needs to be much better and made into an asset rather than a bit of a liability. We mentioned this on checking out and were told investment is planned over the winter. Food was good but getting the same pre-dinner and post dinner nibbles for 3 nights felt a bit dull. The amuse-bouche on night one (cauliflower soup) was fantastic. But on night 2 (cold cauliflower soup) it felt like watered down leftovers. Night 3 was back on form. All of these things are small in themselves but together they add up and putting them right would make this hotel much better and reflect the quality of the service given by the staff.
This is a beautiful historic old chateau with a lot of ambience.
The location was not convenient to downtown Bayeux, but staff was helpful in procuring taxis for us.
The manager available everywhere is great, above his wine knowledge is outstanding
The grounds. Dinner was good.
We did not like our room. The bedspread was dirty and the shear was torn. The room was much smaller than the picture ( tricky photography! )
Location. Restaurant not very good for the hype it gets.
