Breakfast is good, also dinner. Landscape from location is scenic, could be viewed from our balcony. Carlo, the owner, is a nice guy, trying to satisfy all the tastes of all the guests, a hard thing to do, considering there are a lot of guests at the same time, especially during our holiday (August). Maybe a buffet dinner with max 2-3 courses could of done the job for all the visitors, when busy times. Anyway, we enjoyed the dinner very much, especially the little lamb T-bones (better cooked than Lebanese style), and veal dishes, very correct cooking, medium rare for veal, exactly how it was supposed to be. Very good mushroom sauce, but for me, the rump-steak is best with onion jam, accompanied by a naga pepper :)
The main problem is that the room is small and very outdated. Everything is very old and smelly. We had problems sleeping because of the bad smell of the pillows, bed mattress, bed sheet. We even had to buy towels, because using them after taking a shower would leave a bad smell on the skin. No bathroom amenities, other than liquid soap. Carlo needs to be a little more relaxed and let the customers enjoy dinner without interfering much with their likes/dislikes. He did not seem to understand that we were not so hungry sometimes, and thought that if we did not eat, we did not like the food, but that was not the case. I also have the impression that he thought we do not know so much about food or nutrition in general, also - that is not the case :) The only bad thing about dinner was the burger, which needs improvement, the meat was of bad quality, like fast food, probably prefabricated store meatball, not homemade. There is not enough space in the restaurant when many tourists, that could be improved with some tables outside, eating while in clean air would of been magnificent. Also, a fridge/bar with beer/wine is missing, even if Carlo gave us a beer and some wine on some evenings, we would of bought some every night if it was available.
The host was very friendly. The location is beautiful. The meals, services were very good.
Giessauf is very nice, quite typical Alp's guesthouse, next to ski slopes which you can see from your room window and within walking distance to hiking starting point to beautiful mountains in the area. But word "typical" quite quickly upgrades to something more. When you arrive in Giessauf guesthouse you are first impressed about owner and his hospitality. Even if you are tired of spending the whole day travelling, you feel his openness and kindness. Carlo is a person that you can hardly find in today's times where everybody is mostly taking care for his own and never has time for anything. He is always ready to help you, to give you an advice, suggestion, to help you plan your daily trip. And he looks always calm and relaxed, never in a hurry. But the best comes at the end of the day, at dinner. Carlo's dinner is always an unforgettable experience. He is preparing food with such a passion, you really get feeling that each meal is prepared exactly for you. Dishes that we had during our 3 days vacation were in one word amazing, for me and my wife and for both kids as well. And you know that kids are always the toughest judges:). It is quite hard to get comparable sea food at the best restaurants at sea coast. And what's the most important, everything that Carlo is doing has story behind. And in now a days stories are cherry on the top of the cake. And that's what stays in your memories for a long time... So Carlo, thanks again for wonderful experience and be as you are.
Giessauf is a normal alpine guesthouse. But Carlo the host, his attitude and especially the dinners he made is extraordinary. You can feel yourself as spending time in the care of one of your close family member and in a fine dining restaurant in the same time. Carlo looks after you, he tells you if it is cold outside and you should dress warm, he tells you what to see, he asks you what did you see during the day, and so on. During breakfast he prepares fresh coffee at your choice. And the dinners, the dinners are absolutely fantastic! The crown of the day. We spent 8 days at Giessauf, and every dinner was a culinary adventure. 3 or 4 course, from the highest quality ingredients, prepared with the most care and with great expertise. On the first day, he asks you what do you like and what you don't, what are your special dietary needs, and he prepares the dinners accordingly. Seafood (e.g. St. Jacob's scallops), special fishes (e.g. scarpina), wild game meats were on the menu among with others. He loves cooking and he is perfect in it. During the dinner, he sits down next to you and asks you whether you liked the dishes or not. He is very friendly with the guests and likes to have a discussion with them, to tell stories, etc. By these, he makes Giessauf a rare piece of jewellery.
Everything was almost perfect. It will certainly be perfect.
Cold milk for coffee. and electric socket in the shower space :D, thankfully, we was showerred in the thermae ;)
