Great old building and iconic pub.
I really felt the rooms were very small and pokey. The tap basin dripped overnight. It was an unseasonably hot day and with only two little bedside fans - very very hot and uncomfortable . Then awoke to heavy construction work outside.
The location and the promise of a character filled hotel/pub/restaurant. The staff were lovely and arranged entry to our room earlier than their check in time. Can’t complain on the staff experience at all.
It could do with a major refresh decor wise. We were so looking forward to staying in a real character filled british pub esque place, but was sadly greeted with a place that felt dirty and in need of a refresh. Several maintenance issues in our room, that wouldn’t take much to do, so not sure why it hadn’t been done. The pub only had one chair the rest all bar leaners which wasn’t really inviting to want to have a long lunch or dinner. Just a shame really. Had a fire alarm at 6am, which can’t be helped & we had no issue with, but no staff on site meant the firebrigade couldn’t turn the alarm off and it went for over an hour, not ideal.
3rd floor walk-up Above 2 bars TINY room Too hot with windows closed too noisy with them open.
Friendly staff, nice linens.
Tired, shabby and over-priced. We paid over $330 NZD/night and expected an upscale charming boutique hotel. Our room was a tiny space in the attic with many deficiencies. The photos of the common areas on the website were very deceptive. We would not recommend it and will never return.
The location is pretty good - close to airport bus drop-off. Front desk staff doubles as bartender in brewpub downstairs. Very friendly.
There is unfortunately not a 24-hour front desk - when I arrived at 0800 the morning of my stay to drop off my luggage, there was no one to contact. There is also no air conditioner - usually not a problem but room was on top floor and it was the middle of NZ summer. Quite warm in room with a very tiny fan. The property is quite dated.
