Pros: I was in Italy for about six weeks working long 12 to 14 hour days, six and a half days a week at the BHGE fabrication yard in Avenza near Carrara. The Hotel Katy was recommended by a colleague who had a small flat in Viareggio. This was an absolutely amazing hotel experience! Giusi (Josie) and her daughter, Giorgia (Georgia) , the owners of the Hotel Katy, are two of the sweetest, kindest, and most hospitable folks I've ever met. Both speak perfect English, both are wine sommeliers and very knowledgeable about the local wines available, and both are always ready with a great conversation. As one small example of how above and beyond Giusa and Giorgia took care of me, although breakfast started at eight, I often had to leave for work before seven thirty. Realizing I was there for work and not pleasure, they made special arrangements for coffee and breakfast for me before the day started. Couple that with Lucilla, the sweet lady who manages breakfast with a smile that is just infectious, and well … I felt so taken care of and pampered! The room was ultra clean, had a king bed, a large bathroom and a private balcony overlooking the ocean. I would have paid twice the price for such lavish accommodations! While I could rave for hours about the hotel, it was the owners and their wonderful staff that made this long and hard trip so easy and relaxing. Stay here just once and you'll understand. These folks love what they do … the best of the best! Thank you!!!

Pros: The hotel is near to the promenade in Viareggio, wich is really large, and has aprox. 3 km. Many good stores and restaurants nearby. The beach is on 3 min walk. The breakfast was very good: fruit, eggs, milk, yoghurt, cakes, many others and a very good coffee :)

Cons: We got a back room, good quality though pretty small and no view (except the inner roof and pipes) for lots of money. No pool in the hotel, no real service at the roof bar (the guy was alone for many of us, so we left), no access to the sea, you have to pay 25 EUR per person for one of the private clubs on the other side of the street to go to the water (OK, you'll get the regular beach facilities, too).

Most of the staff was friendly and helpful, but the porter who took our bags and boxes of wine at check-in accidentally dropped one of the boxes of wine and broke a few bottles. He cleaned up the mess and apologized, but it was certainly avoidable, had he packed the cart correctly. Unfortunately, they were very nice bottles and we were disappointed that no effort was made by the management to apologize for the damage.

Pros: While booking I did not have much choice so I ended up booking this property hoping that it would be close to the sea side. One has to pay a fee to be able access the beach which a bit of a walk. Another thing my family did not appreciate was that the person seating you or allocating spots on the beach was grouping ppl of certain nationalities together on purpose -clear racism- The room itself had sand on the bed not pleasant - however; they did cone and clean it up on request. I received a call from the hotel. When I called back -not knowing that it was the hotel as the number is not saved. An incompetent person with poor english answered! I tried to understand why I received a call from him to no avail. The toiletries were good quality. The house keeping staff nice and pleasant.

Pros: We had a beautiful suite, which we were upgraded to as I am handicapped and use a wheelchair. It was a wonderful suprise and very thoughtful of the staff. We had a beautiful view out of our oceanfront suite and a large balcony to sit out at. The bathroom was amazing. Everything was very clean and the bed was very comfortable - they even had a "pillow menu" to pick the type of pillow you like best.

Pros: This was a great place to stay. The location is just off the main strip along the beach, it’s a short taxi ride to the station. The room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast was varied and filling. There is a small supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel also cafe and restaurants along the beach if you prefer. The main shopping area is about 10-15 minute walk away and the shops are varied with some lovely specialty shops. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.

I had the impression that many of the other guests were on a half-pension there. The hotel was very well located, and had a good deal with a nice kid-friendly beach facility nearby. Pros: This was a great place to stay. The location is just off the main strip along the beach, it’s a short taxi ride to the station. The room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast was varied and filling. There is a small supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel also cafe and restaurants along the beach if you prefer. The main shopping area is about 10-15 minute walk away and the shops are varied with some lovely specialty shops. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.
Cons: The only thing I can say is the bathroom need a shelf or basket as there is no where to place ladies toiletries. There is a small shelf above the sink however if you have a toiletry bag this is not large enough.

Pros: We left with a strong feeling that had a stay at the 5 star Hotel.I travel really frequent and can say that the staff,the room(bathroom also), breakfast,dinner that everything was worth 5 stars.If I ever come back to Viareggio (at that may happen already next summer)) I will have no doubts where to stay. We hired road bikes while we were there and the hotel locked them in a secure garage for us. Rooms were good and nice balcony. Less than 5 minute walk to the beach. Pros: Spa facilities are terrific. Staff were generally v nice. The cycle hire was a nice facility especially as there's a great cycle route that literally goes on for kilometres along the promenade facing the front of the hotel.
Cons: The main gripe was the double bed which consisted of two single mattresses placed unattached alongside each other. By the morning there was often a big rift between them.

Pros: Very welcoming, family run hotel. Able to book in at 11.55 am. No parking but able to unload outside and free parking 30/50 metres away. Room was spacious and light with ample hanging and drawer space; free room safe. Excellent air conditioning with temperature and fan control so not needed overnight. Spacious, well fitted bathroom. Breakfast was very good with wide selection including fresh scrambled eggs, bacon,beans,sausages, rice as well as cold meats and cheeses, cereals, various pastries,fresh fruits, yogurts,coffee and teas. Lovely outside, secluded garden sitting areas where we enjoyed aperitivo eats and also very good aperol spritzes. Would recommend excellent Bar Osteria Stadio, 30 metres towards Stadium.

Pros: I ended up arriving a day before I was supposed to with no hotel. Even though, Hotel Spinelli was full they helped find me lodging for the night and were beyond helpful. Once I returned to the hotel the next day they went above and beyond by making me feel comfortable, safe, made sure I had everything I needed and just were world-class. I cannot thank them enough for all they did for me. I will definitely be staying here again.

They leant us umbrellas for the beach, helped us get to the Dr and bathed our daughters foot when stung by a weever fish. Rooms are cleaned daily and the hotel is clean, tidy and has a real sense of family run business. The hotel also runs a free shuttle bus service to all the beach clubs, whenever you ask! Just brilliant. It’s a perfect distance to stroll into the main area of town for dinner as well. We would def book again for a stay in Via Reggio. Thanks so much

Cons: Staff not friendly at all. The men was absolutely impolite and never available. It was to stressed to manage his paper work all the time we were reaching him. During the check out he was super rude to me just because I was a woman (he said I was helpful just because I took out the credit card from my pocket). Regarding breakfast, well, i know I’m Italian expectation are always high, but I do not believe there are hotels in my country where the food is disgusting. Do not come back anymore and do not recommend.

Pros: The location of this hotel is excellent if you want to be central to the beach at Viareggio. We were stopping over for one night only to get the day boat trip to the Cinque Terre. It is on the Main Street so some people may find it noisy if your room is facing the beach as ours was. However this wasn’t a problem as we were all so tired we would have slept through everything. The room was comfortable and beds were good. Air con worked and rooms were generally clean. My husband said it felt like he had stepped back in time at this hotel but I did quite like that. Staff were excellent and very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was extensive and delicious with good coffee. I am not sure if I would stay in Viareggio again just because it’s not really my type of place but the hotel was very good location if you are looking to be ready for the daily boat ride to Cinque Terre or indeed if you are there for the beach.

Cons: they really need to update there matress as they are very hard. also there double beds are just 2 single beds pushed together but it seems alot of hotels in italy are the same. it is a very noisy hotel doors slaming and noise travels far. they need to install carpet to dampen the sounds.

Cons: Some people may feel that this is a bit tired but I did quite like the idea that this hotel in its hay day would have been quite grande. Whilst the beds and bathrooms were clean without a doubt some areas of the hotel did need a bit of a dust (to me as long as beds, bathrooms and food is clean I am not really bothered) it is quite pricey for what you get but we did go in August when 97% of booking hotels were booked so not really suprising.

Pros: We stayed at Hotel Adrianna for one night in Viareggio on our way to Cinque Terre. The hosts are very kind. We had a small balcony from which we could see the sea at the end of the street. The breakfast was acceptable. We ate at La Chiesina which is a 2 minute walk from the hotel and we had a delicious pizza and the peppered mussel starter (which was huge and more than adequate for a main meal).

Pros: I really like the personal, the woman there was very friendly and helpful. For not a lot of money you have a private room with a bed, a desk and bath. Just about 5-8 minutes walk to the beach, cafes and restaurants are nearby.

Pros: Bed was very cheap mattress. Room needs upgrading on all respect. I work in Corp Hospitaity and find the rooms depressing and in need of makeover. A lot of ants in room. Strange smell in hotel could not say what it was. Left a day early as could not stay any longer. They do try but outside pictures and some inside do not reflect the overall view of the hotel. Owners are very helpful but feel they are tired themselves as the building seems.

Cons: The rooms are basic, the bed has seen better days and the walls could do with a new coat of paint. The bathroom is very small (especially the shower). Off street parking is a challenge during the peak season and is not included in the rate. The beach is a problem to access as you have to pay between 15-20 euro for a sun bed otherwise you have to access the public beach strip which is not particularly pleasant. It is ridiculous that you should have to pay to go to a beach. At night all of the bars along the beach close and the ones open are only for the private beach clients. A much better option to visit if you would are planning beach holiday with beautiful views is Lerici.

Cons: We had asked for 2 separate single beds while booking. The announcement said they had a huge double bed while there was a single Queen size bed which was not sufficent for 2 people to sleep on it. The staff on the reception refused to accept that we ever made any request. When we asked why did not they explain the unavailability of single beds, they said "they were not obligated to read the requests of the customers and respond". The guy on the reception finally said either we pay the difference which was 15 euros more than the actual price or we leave the room and find a place to sleep elsewhere. He knew Viareggio was full because of Carival and so the hotels won't have any place and we would not go looking for another one at the last moment. When we finally entered the room, it was not even clean and the maid starting sweeping the floor. The room had just light blankets in full winter and no extra quilts. When we asked for more covers, the lady was kind enough to bring us something but they were dirty and smelly quilts. The hotel did not even bother to compensate for their horrible behaviour. The lady was polite with us while the guy was arguing in a very harsh tone and had that smug look on his face. I have never seen such bad treatment ever in my life. In short that was the worst stay ever by booking.com. I don't think Booking.com should give partnership to such establishments. We could speak fluent Italian and still the guy made us a fool. I wonder what would happen if someone does not speak the language.
