My wife and I didn't really know what to expect when we booked a stopover in Sestri Levante, but we very much regret not staying longer. Inclement weather and the long drive from Como led us make a decision to stay in for the night, and it turned out to be an extraordinarily memorable one. Indeed for most of the evening we felt as if we had gone back to the 1920s or 1930s but with all the modern amenities. After sipping martinis in the piano lounge and listening to some great old-time lounge-jazz we had a truly great meal. The fish and vegetarian options suited us well, while the impressive service from our waiter - who also doubled as the barman - was another highlight. He even helped us take our luggage across the street to our car when we checked out the following day! (I'm still not sure we tipped him enough). As to other considerations - the staff and management were wonderful, the room spacious and clean, and the bed a delight to sleep. There were also no noise issues. The location can't be faulted, either, being right in the centre of the old part of town. The 11.30 checkout meant that we had ample time to wander around before heading off to our next destination around midday. If you're looking for a place to stay that's got a touch of the unique about it and which isn't overly expensive then I certainly recommend this hotel. PS: There are toilet/change-room amenities for beach-goers under the main reception/restaurant level, which are also for the use of guests dining in the restaurant. These have to be seen to be believed.
Great location for a Chinque Terra start with train to any of the 5 small villages. The staff were nice and serviceminded
Nice room but the bed was terrible - takes time to recover. Anoying that bathroom door didn’t look without a lift
This hotel cleverly built into a former theatre is very novel. Its location on the beach makes it unique in the town. The breakfast and service were excellent. The hotel is wonderfully decorated and maintained. Most of the rooms are suites, usually with a mezzanine floor for the bedroom, all unique as they are built into the theatre as it was. We got an excellent deal in October (and very good sunbathing weather 3 of 4 days) at €150 for the room but in high season expect to pay €275+. Sestri Levante itself us a great location and well worth a few days for sun, sand and relaxation. Thus is a upmarket resort so no discos, clubs and noisy drunken parties.
The rooftop lounge and bar closed for the winter the day we arrived leaving nowhere in the hotel for guests to relax. The restaurant offers a really good value lunch but who wants this after a massive breakfast. Unfortunately the evening prices are somewhat high especially when the hotel is surrounded by excellent restaurants.
The room was a good size, very useful as we traveled from Australia and we have two large cases. I’d classify this hotel as “quirky” with stairs up to the sleeping mezzanine.
Access into the building is only by steps, quite difficult with two heavy cases
It isn't my habit to write about an hotel but, in this case, I can spend my best words for everything. The location is amazing and the staff was great. the landscape from the upper terrace is wonderfull during this time.
