Pros: Beautiful hotel, beautiful location
Cons: One member of staff was extremely rude
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Location, room and food first class

Pros: The location was great but the hill up to the hotel was difficult . we often cheated and booked a cab/ not expensive by today's standards! the staff were excellent and very accommodating.
Cons: Our room was smaller than we hoped for snd sometimes was quite cold. However during the night we would find it v. hot.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Bedding was lovely, staff excellent special mention to Jaro and Stewart who were excellent and dealt with things brilliantly. All of the staff always spoke and made us feel very special. The food was excellent with plenty of choice
Cons: Staff should check the plates and dishes in the dining room at the buffet as some had clearly come out of the dishwasher with bits still on them
6,7 Good
Pros: Quite smart and good breakfasts
Cons: Small rooms and cluttered
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was only a few mins walk from the town centre and public transport was excellent. Both my husband and I were always greeted by name, which for a hotel of that size is no mean feat. We were certainly made to feel very welcome. If we ever return to Guernsey then we shall certainly consider staying at the Old Governor Hotel again. Thankyou very much for making us feel so welcome.
Cons: I don't think that there was anything that we didn't like with regards to our stay at the Old Governor Hotel. I think that the only down side was the very steep hill walking up to the hotel from the St Peters Port quay!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant staff.
7,3 Good
Pros: The welcome and the staff, they couldn't do enough for you and nothing was too much trouble and they made our anniversary special
Cons: The location. There was a lot of noise outside on Saturday night from young locals and we didn't get a lot of sleep. However, this was no fault of the hotels.
6,7 Good
Pros: Great location, very professional and caring personel, nice english style interior, fine restaurant
Cons: Room far too small. The announced king size bed was certainly not larger than 140 cm. The night was uncomfortable. Maybe the upgraded rooms are in better relation with the projected standard of the hotel.

Pros: Restaurant was excellent breakfast and evening meal staff were all very good
Cons: Bathroom needed updating as shower needed replacement was also very small
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good helpful staff
Cons: Breakfast pastries cold not that fresh feel
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was amazing. We had a small hiccup at check out however. I converted more dollars into pounds than needed. At check out I requested to pay a portion of my bill in pounds. The gentleman at reception said I could not do that. He said if I wanted to use pounds for part of my payment I should have done that upon check in. I explained at check in I didn’t know I would that I would have surplus pounds. I had never been to Guernsey so I wasn’t sure when I would need cash. It is irritating that now I will have to pay to convert 600 pounds into dollars which will involve a fee. I have been in hospitality management for over 20 years and I think he could have assisted me in this regard but chose not to. It was easier to just tell me that what I was requesting was not possible.
Cons: Please see above.
7,1 Good
Pros: Staff - excellent
Cons: Decor - very “dated”. No drawers in room big enough for a folded shirt - but we could seat 8 people - what’s the point ! Furniture could easily have been 50 years old - just not our taste at all. Parking was a joke - 4 spaces for the entire hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience was a positive experience
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional hotel. Spotlessly clean. Customer service excellent. Food very good. Room lovely. Cannot fault in any way. Would definitely recommend
7,0 Good
Pros: Very clean, reasonable location for the town - if you don't mind a steepish hill or take taxis. Attentive staff with good local info.
Cons: The 'always on' blue light in the bathroom ceiling was a minor irritation, apparently Health & Safety given the usual age range of their guests ! A blind at the bathroom window would have been nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely comfortable beds . Staff all helpful and friendly excellent breakfast and dinner
Cons: Nothing I didn’t like
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Parking was convenient and the catering very good.

Pros: Wasn’t too sure about the stairs to begin with...but soon got over that and was totally surprised with the quality of everything. Not at all what I expected. Well done guys.
7,5 Good
Pros: The little extras were great- fresh milk and homemade brownies in the room It was fun and quirky - beautifully decorated and the staff were lovely
Cons: The room and en-suite were very small and very warm. There was no space to walk around the bed, tiny bathroom The steps to the hotel very challenging with any slight disability
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and decent restaurant with good breakfast too. Although room was very tiny it was nicely presented.
Cons: Tiny room with nowhere to sit and double bed access one side only and no window to open (no Aircon), just a patio door (shared balcony) which didn't feel very secure at night. OK for us as we were only sleeping there, but tiny size would not have been good for a longer stay
Best Western Hotel De Havelet - Saint Peter Port
4
9,1 Excellent (318 reviews)
R2 032+
Overview Reviews
The Best Western Hotel de Havelet is the perfect place to stay in Guernsey, perched on a hill on the outskirts of the capital, St Peter Port. With an easy downhill walk into town, you'll be close to the attractions, yet a world away from the hustle and bustle. The hotel - an attractive Georgian house with an attractive sheltered garden and flower filled terraces - offers peace and quiet as well as amazing scenery. With beautiful views from the restaurants of the harbor, Castle Cornet and neighboring islands, there’s more than enough to feast your eyes upon. Being perfectly located for St Peter Port, it’s convenient for ferry terminals to Portsmouth, French ports and neighboring Jersey. A wonderful holiday destination, this lovely Guernsey hotel has much to offer guests who enjoy walking. The attractive south coast cliff paths are just five minutes away and you can also choose a ‘Tasty Walk’ – a series of 18 self-guided walks designed to take in the best of the island’s stunning scenery and fabulous food. The narrow streets and lanes of St. Peter Port are also full of interest, and Hauteville House - the Channel Island home of novelist, Victor Hugo whilst in exile - is also located near to Hotel de Havelet. If you’re the active and energetic type, why not try kayaking around the coves on the south coast? Alternatively, charter a boat and go on a voyage around the island, where you will spot seals, puffins and more around the rugged coastlines of the Bailiwick. If you’d rather stay close to this excellent hotel near St Peter Port, we offer a heated swimming pool, with French windows onto our sheltered patio for sunbathing - plus sauna, Jacuzzi® and steam room to help you fully relax. 10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a lovely hotel and the staff were attentive and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and spacious and we loved the little enclosed balcony overlooking the inner courtyard. The indoor swimming pool was an added bonus and the gardens were delightful. We had one evening meal in the Wellington Restaurant and the food was delicious. Similarly the breakfasts were substantial and catered for all tastes.
Cons: The only little niggle was the piped music in the retaurant. I don't mind music when I'm dining but this was a bit like 60's lift music - very jarring and once you've noticed it, hard to ignore.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant service as expected

Pros: Bar and restuarant were fine
Cons: The room was very small. It was nothing like the images on the website

Fleur Du Jardin is relaxed and informal with a hint of the unusual. It serves good fresh food and has a private swimming pool in its spacious grounds. The Fleur Du Jardin takes its names from a breed of Guernsey cows. Buses stop regularly outside the hotel, or you can hire a bicycle to explore the island. Pros: Hosted my wedding meal here with close family members. We were able to set up the night before, which was perfect so we weren’t rushing around on our special day. The staff were attentive and just absolutely wonderful. We had the room for a good few hours and When the meal concluded we were taken to our room. They had upgraded our room for free to the honeymoon suit and it was just faultless, just like an apartment! We got a congratulations letter and some free champagne. The food for our meal was absolutely Devine and for this, they allowed myself and my husband to create our own set menu with all different types of meals from their normal dinner menu, to suit our fussy eaters. Just perfect all round.
Cons: Nothing

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Food was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.
Cons: Lots of hills around the hotel, but everywhere in Guernsey is very hilly
4,2 Okay
Pros: The central location although up a steep hill
Cons: The room that we were given, No. 39, has got to be the worst in the hotel. It was on the ground floor, just off the carpark and sideways on to your 'beer garden'. The room was dark, poky and frankly a bit tired looking especially the bathroom door which was rotting and split across the bottom (see photo). Because of the proximity to the car park, access tunnel and beer garden it was at times extremely noisy and it was not possible to raise the blinds without everyone looking in. The whole time we stayed, there was a rusting white transit van abandoned right outside our door which was obviously there for the long haul and everyone knew to block it in. The fact that the bathroom was up two steps which had a cupboard blocking full use of the steps was dangerous especially in the middle of the night. The room was extremely hot and we could not work out why especially as we had both the front and back windows open to create a through draft, and we were up at 4.00am two out of three nights as we could not sleep for the heat. Considering that we were paying £145 a night, payment of which was demanded as soon as we walked in the door even though you had all our credit card details, the whole experience was very poor and quite upsetting. I sent all this to the hotel by email and have not even received the courtesy of a reply
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Clean comfortable room
Cons: A bit of a maze up and down stairs to get to the room
7,1 Good
Pros: Great location and lovely, helpful staff. The breakfast was really nice and the beds were comfy!
Cons: It was far too much money for what it was. There was no lift. I ordered a sandwich from room service and they didn't include crisps which were on the menu. The early bird menu in the restaurant was widely advertised as £14 for 2 courses (in the bar and in the rooms and on the front door) but they charged £15 saying it was a new price despite that new price not being available! One couple complained but were made to pay the extra money. All these small things add up.
10,0 Excellent

Pros: The room we were finally given was very nice, spacious, clean and very good facilities. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Cons: We had a mix up with our room where my mother and I were given a double instead of the twin we booked. This was quickly rectified but meant we had to change rooms after our first night.

Pros: Everything
Cons: A bit of a walk to get into town
4,6 Okay
Pros: Receptionist was delightful.
Cons: Hotel like a morgue except With the furnace set melt steel. Restaurant staff didn’t have a clue and breakfast lady was adamant I should enjoy their coffee despite it tasting like hot muddy pond water.

Pros: Overall Very Good. Cleanliness excellent, impressive Food quality excellent and lots of choice reasonably priced Staff were attentive and friendly
Cons: Food on occasion could have been hotter. for a Superior room the bed was too small. No opening window. Had to have the patio door open for air at night. The road noise
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet
Cons: The curtains didn't exclude all light
5,0 Okay
Pros: Food was good
Cons: I stayed in room 306 probably the smallest room on the planet! Shower is so old and dated it took ages for it to actually activate once turnt on! The breakfast room was insanely uncomfortably hot!!! No air con at all!!! I even overheard staff saying it’s to hot! A little heads up before hand if there’s a private function booked would have been nice as it clearly states family friendly hotel! How is that when your kids are kept up by thumping music! Can safely say I will not rush to come back here .
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Good choice of food at breakfast. Staff were very helpful. Pool and other facilities in the Spa were very clean and easy to use. Room servicing each day was very efficient.

7,1 Good
Pros: All basic but comfortable and convenient for the purpose of travel
Cons: All good, nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Pretty much a perfect hotel. Good sized, immaculately clean and nicely furnished room. Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast - well worth paying that bit extra for when booking. Central location is ideal. Lively bar and popular restaurant should you wish to use them.
Cons: Nothing whatsoever to dislike!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: everything was great, staff, service, location
5,0 Okay
Pros: The rooms were clean and generally comfortable.
Cons: The staff on my last day was incredibly rude. She first asked me why I was going to the beach if it was raining when I asked to call a taxi. She then said that it’s very difficult to find taxis on the island on a Sunday when I asked if she could change the time of my flight. The cleaning staff was very loud starting at 8:30 in an old building when I was trying to get some sleep after a long week. Generally good facilities, but not worth the price I paid for two nights.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was lovely. Taking my bottle of wine to my room after dinner was appopriate. The room cleaner who helped me get my top off my fresh milk bottle was great.
Cons: More sockets maybe and not in a difficult to access place behind the TV but all fine really
7,9 Good
Pros: lovely hotel, room well equipped with iron & board, mini fridge and good sized bathroom, really comfortable bed, good central location right in the middle of town near restaurants etc.
Cons: Main problem was the hotel was much too hot. They need to turn the heat down. We tried to sleep with windows open to allow some cool air into the room but the street was much to noisy to do that so we didn't sleep great.

7,1 Good
Pros: The evening meal in the restaurant was very good. Great atmosphere overall.
Cons: We had way too much unnecessary furniture for a standard 2 person room and the cleanliness of the room could be improved. Quite a variety of desserts but I would assume most of them were not fresh. We have ordered an eclair for dessert and the cream had turned. I have mentioned it to a staff member and he was happy to take it off our bill but the same eclairs as well as the rest of the desserts were still there the next day.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location with lovely beaches around and a great cake shop!
Cons: Restaurant about 0.5 mile away closed down in last year. False fire alarm one morning got us all up at 7am..
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: The location and lounge were good, however, this was offset by the poor quality of the housekeeping, maintenance and the safety issues we encountered.
Cons: Our experience of The Jerbourg hotel was disappointing; the housekeeping and maintenance standards are below par, the room we were in was unsafe for our children and the facilities were inadequate. We stayed just one of the four nights booked. The housekeeping standards were not good enough. For example, - The mattress protector was soiled and had to be changed. When the lady came with the new, clean, mattress protector she handed it to me as if to say you can put if on the mattress. - When we arrived the whole room had a strong smell of bleach from the bathroom. We had to wipe down the sink and bath to remove the smell. The maintenance standards were also poor. For example; - The wallpaper was torn and the wall crumbling in places (see photos). - The fridge in the room was rusted and yellowing (see photo) Some of the facilities in the room were unsafe, not operational and certainly didn’t reflect the rate we paid. To illustrate; - The TV was tiny and most of the Freeview channels didn’t work (see photo) - There were no toiletries in the bathroom - Our room was in the attic, which meant that the children’s fold-out bed was right up against the third-floor window. This was unsafe and meant that we needed to keep the window closed despite the good weather. - On booking.com the hotel is listed as four stars however the hotel has three stars on the door. We will be back to Guernsey, which is a beautiful island but we will not be staying at the Jerbourg hotel. I sent this note (with the pictures I've posted) to the hotel in advance of posting this review and they didn't both to reply ...
6,0 Good
Pros: Comfy bed
Cons: Hairs of previous guest left in the bath pug hole! I had to clean it out before having a bath. Breakfast basic. Tv in bedroom tiny and not situated where you can look at it without getting a crick in your neck.!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed at this hotel many times and always found it the perfect place to relax in and the views are second to none.
Cons: nothing
7,9 Good
Pros: Comfy bed, comfy pillows, good WiFi. Lovely food and cakes, comfy seats.
Cons: Avoid room 23: a roof tile or something is loose, making the room very noisy in windy weather (the hotel is on a peninsula).
5,4 Okay
Pros: Nice hotel shame about the receptionists attitude, put me off right away
10,0 Excellent
Pros: What a brilliant find. The hotel is gorgeous and the views quite breathtaking. We sat out on the terrace and drank Prosecco while we worked our way through their yummy selection of cakes. Booked a standard room which was great. You could see Herm and Sark out of the window. Bed was comfy and room was nice and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. We had dinner at the Hotel, delicious! The manager (I think her name was Fran?) found us a great table by the window and looked after us. Also Lewis and the other guy in the bar deserve a special mention. Chrissie on reception was a great help with our hire car mix up - completely our fault. Thank you to everyone, memorable short stay - we will definitely be back!
Cons: We should have stayed longer!

Pros: Good location, only a short distance from harbour. Good continental breakfast
Cons: Was happy with everything
6,3 Good
Pros: Breakfast was fine. They don't do a cooked breakfast until 1st of October. Found that a bit unusual not to do a cooked breakfast year round. Location was great. It was a very clean place to stay.
Cons: I booked a double bed & got 2 single beds. Was given a room on the 3rd floor. The steps are narrow & have a low roof. I got a parking fine from the police as I didn't set the parking clock correctly in the parking area. They have a quaint system of giving you a cardboard clock to put on your dash. I mis set it by an hour & got fined, 30pounds. You would think that they might have given a tourist a warning rather than a fine. I did go to the police station but was told all are treated the same. Sad end to a holiday.

7,9 Good
Pros: Good price and nice clean room. Handy for the bus stops both into town and to the airport.
Cons: Not a lot happening in the immediate area. Wi-Fi was a bit tempermental.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value for money. Staff friendly and attentive. The hotel has been done up since I was last there 6 years ago. The room was clean, comfortable, large, with an excellent shower. Breakfast was substantial. cooked well with ample choice. The tea provided was very good. I enjoyed my stay.
Cons: The location of my front room was fairly close to the main road. Whilst quiet in the evening, there was some noise from the road in the morning but it was not intrusive and the hotel is a lot quieter than many other Guernsey hotels I have stayed in.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great Location. Easy to access town. Comfortable beds and roms. Accomodating staff - who went beyind the basic. EXCELLENT BREAKFAST! Woudl recommend staying here.
7,5 Good
Pros: Spotless and comfortable room although we had to walk up 3 flights of stairs. We did have help with our luggage. Shower was good. Bed very comfortable. The lounge downstairs was roomy and you can use the computers, which was useful for booking tours, as the wifi didn't always work upstairs. We had a free lift from and back to the airport, and the owner was very helpful with pointing out various places to visit and told us about the prepaid card you can get for using the buses. The hotel is near bus stops for getting into town and other parts of the island. The room was cleaned every day and the cleaner always spoke and with a cheery smile.
Cons: The owners run two hotels and there was hardly ever anyone on reception. There was a phone to call someone if needed, and we found once when we phoned that there was in fact someone around but out of sight. Breakfast was a bit of a farce. The staff were very unfriendly first thing in the morning and once they handed you a menu they would disappear. We were not allowed to order cooked food until someone came over, which was after we had finished eating from the self service buffet. We could help ourselves to filtered coffee, but had to wait for tea to be brought over. There was then a 20 minute wait for cooked food. If anyone dared to ask when they would get breakfast they were told they had to wait their turn. If you are going on a booked tour and want a cooked breakfast make sure you allow plenty of time! We gave up waiting one day as we had an early bus to catch.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: breakfast good but too much. possibly double what I expected Good details and map for local area. Room good size.
7,1 Good
Pros: Staff friendly and very willing to give advice. It is a little out of town, but the bus service is amazing.
Cons: Too many steps/stairs - room in roof. But this is typical of this type of hotel so not much to complain about.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Good Location and easy to find from ferry port. Although on a hill it is on a regular bus route into the town centre. Excellent choice and quality at breakfast.
Cons: Nothing

7,1 Good
Pros: Delicious cooked breakfast and very plentiful. The pancakes were so tasty and freshly made

Pros: Nothing
Cons: The fact my window was frosted glass and you could hear EVERYTHING through the walls!
