Top tips for hiring a car at Pristina airport

  • Car hires at Pristina Airport (PRN) are very popular. The airport is also known as Pristina International Airport Adem Jashari and it is the only port of entry for air travellers arriving into Kosovo. Kosovo is a mountainous region and while the main roads are quite good the rural roads tend to be poor quality. It’s advised to upgrade your hire car to a larger vehicle rather than the standard city car that you might normally choose. Public transport is available but it will be a lot slower and less reliable than driving yourself by car.
  • There are plenty of petrol stations on each of the approach roads to Pristina Airport, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty refuelling before you return your car. However, there are no petrol stations at the airport itself.
  • Returning your car to Pristina Airport is not complicated. On approach to the airport, follow the signs for the parking area designated for car hire, remove your belongings and present at the car hire desks in the main terminal. You will exchange paperwork and have the car checked and then you are free to go. If you arrive out of hours there will be a drop-box to enable you to return your keys and the car will be checked the following day.
  • Car hires at Pristina Airport generally operate from 08:00 to 23:59, Monday to Sunday. They don’t have reduced hours on weekends. Some of the companies finish at 22:00. If you prefer to deal with people face-to-face, then it’s best to arrange to collect and return your car during these working hours.
  • Book your car hire at Pristina airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about hiring a car at Pristina airport

  • Where are the rental companies situated at Pristina Airport (PRN)?

Car hire at Pristina Airport is located inside the main terminal in the Arrivals area. You’ll find it just as you exit the Baggage Reclaim area. Pristina is a small single terminal airport that is easy to navigate. You’ll find staff on hand at their desks to help you with your vehicle choice and with advice for travelling onward in Kosovo and beyond. The car collection area is nearby also, in the car park immediately adjacent to the terminal and within a short walk of the car hire desks.

  • Can I travel to Serbia in my hired car from Pristina Airport?

If you plan to cross the border into Serbia then you must let your car hire company know in advance so that they can make sure that your insurance covers the trip and advise on border crossings. The political situation between Serbia and Kosovo changes regularly.

  • What kind of amenities are offered at Pristina’s rental car centre?

Pristina Airport is a new modern facility with all the amenities that you would expect. As the car hire desks are within the terminal you can avail of all of these, including assistance from staff, bars and restaurants, toilets and baby changing facilities, as well as ATMs and currency exchange desks.

  • What type of documentation is required to rent a car at Pristina Airport?

Pristina Airport car hire will require a full driving licence for your country of residence, a credit or debit card and your passport and flight details for secondary identification. An international driving permit is recommended for driving in Kosovo also. You must be 21 years old or more to hire a car in Kosovo. Drivers who are not yet 25 will be required to pay a daily charge. Drivers who are over 70 years may also be levied a surcharge if they are 70 years of age or more. There is no maximum age but individual car hire companies have their own rules on these matters. If this applies to you, it’s useful to have a GP letter stating you are competent to drive.

  • Which car hire companies will pick you up at Pristina airport?

Car hire companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from Pristina airport to off-airport locations include Alamo, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Europcar, Hertz, INTERRENT , keddy by Europcar, National, Sixt, and SURPRICE CAR RENTAL .
