Comfort, character, and hospitality! The Scotsman Inn is a model for these qualities. The inn is a beautifully renovated historic building featuring lovely antique furniture and artwork. The new wood floors (and everything else for that matter) are immaculate. Our bed was extremely comfortable, and breakfast was delightfully served in a formal dining room. Sandy and Kathy are gracious, entertaining, and attentive hosts providing some history about the building as well as pointers for things to do and places to eat in the area.
Quaint B&B in the heart of Pictou - lovely building with cozy rooms.
Fantastic hosts! You felt like you were entering a Royal palace. Antiques and gorgeous decor- the breakfast room was fit for the Queen of England, fine china and all! Sandy and Cathy are lovely and very helpful in recommending local activities and great restaurants. They go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Highly recommend and would stay here again!
Location in town close to waterfront was nice. Dinner suggestion was appreciated.
Hotel write up should be more accurate and indicate that all rooms are either on the third or fourth floor. The absence of an elevator should also be more prominently disclosed - whatever the historic situation of this property. Non disclosure reflects poorly on the owner, not the building. Building was completely locked until exactly 4pm. Rules abounded: don’t use white washcloth for face. Don’t expect checkin or checkout time accommodations. Expect to wait until 8am for breakfast room to be unlocked. Don’t express an opinion not shared by the owners. Breakfast was mostly “show” as owner donned his kilt and relished all attention he received. Food offered was short on substance; lots of carbs, limited fresh fruit and protein, and was parceled out by the owner. Ditto for coffee and tea. We witnessed a guest being scolded for trying to replenish his own coffee, and another scolded for trying to serve herself blueberries ( the only fresh fruit available). Any request was met with incredulity that the guest was less than satisfied. A guest asking for “sweet and low” was told it was unavailable because it was bad for her. Our overall impression: the owner seeks self aggrandizement. We also noticed that negative comments are always answered with excuses or “explanations”. This owner should not be in the customer service industry.
Sandy & Cathy are wonderful hosts who only want your visit to be comfortable & pleasurable. If your just starting your visit, stay at “The Scotsman”. Sandy has areas for you to take note of which are worthy of stopping at. Generally not noted in tourist books. Breakfast was awesome in the beautiful dining room, served on china. Thank you Cathy for your hard work keeping everything pristine & so welcoming! Sandy thank you for regaling us with your many stories, humour & information. Thank you both for making our stay so very special!
