Pros: Everything is perfect. Price can be high but it's worth it, totally! The personnel is attentive, smiling and do everything to help you. The room is wonderful and so peaceful. The personal outdoor bath is fantastic, view on nature. One of the rare Ryokan who accepts to do vegetarian and vegan menu! You will definitely have a great time there, it's just like a dream for one night.
Cons: Be careful during the rainy season, forest around is full of leeches. ;)

10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about our experience - from the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the extremely friendly staff and whisked off to our room to get settled. Everything about Bettei Senjuan is impeccable, from the beautiful grounds, to the rooms, and stunning onsen (both the public ones and the in-room onsen). However, the food was by far the highlight of our stay - everything was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. This is hands down the best hotel I have ever stayed at in my life. The only negative was having to leave!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful staff, food, room and view. We stayed two nights and had wonderful snacks provided in between meals on our full day. Food is beautifully presented, the dinning rooms have stunning views, our staff member Narumi was very happy, helpful and lots of fun. We really hope to stay here again!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: It’s all that you expect from a ryokan experience. Staff is very friendly.the breakfast, lunch and dinner were excellent. Very welcoming and excellent service
Cons: Some of the property old equipment is not fully removed/fixed. For example old shower handle that no longer finctional. Hole on the wall from door handle.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is located in a secluded quiet area but still is only 10 minutes drive from JR Minakami station, You felt the hotel is different from arrival. It is well desigined to have a luxurious feel; supplemented by the very friendly and helpful staff. The room is spacious, tiday and clean; with a private open air onsen which The qualify of food in both dinner and breakfast are very nice.
Cons: Can't really complain. If I have to pick one, the public bath is nice but rather ordinary. But this is not really so important as most rooms in the hotel have its own private bath.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property is nice, clean and relaxing. The dinners and breakfasts were very good as well. The onsens are nice, with a selection of different ones alternating between female/male at different times of the day. The staff speak mostly Japanese with a couple of them knowing some English which makes it better in my opinion, knowing a lot of Japanese people stay here too!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very authentic Japanese experience. Everything from checking in, rooms, beddings, food, and stuffs are very good. The highlight is the dinner course which includes 4 courses.
Cons: A little more comfy futon would be great. Bring your own toiletries if you don't plan to go topuvlic onsen as they don't provide any in the room.

Pros: The owners are so lovely, the house is full of quirky things. Their cooking was delicious!! We totally enjoyed it all and would go back in a flash.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: It was a beautiful place with a very comfortable atmosphere. It has a nice little onsen and the staff was AMAZINGLY friendly. They were so helpful.
Cons: Although the booking.com site said there was no food included in the meal, a lot of reviewers said there was. I should have contacted the pension beforehand to inquire about food and it is my own fault for not doing so. Luckily I brought some snacks, because the food cooked for the other guests smelled amazing and I got so hungry. It is a bit frustrating that the pension website shows the same price I paid comes with food. SO if you book directly through them you can get a meal.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The host was very kind in picking us up from Minakami Kogen ski resort and drop off the next day at takaragawa onsen. Breakfast was fabulous with good quantity. The Onsen was spacious for a couple with snow view.
Cons: No yukata.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel with a good service. The room was very comfortable. The location is lovely and convenient. We can lock the small onsen bath for privacy. So overall, it is an amazing experience.
Cons: The meals are a bit expensive in my opinion, and very few restaurants and convenience stores are available around.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The couple that run the house where lovely and did what they could to help us
Cons: A little out of the way for the map guide in the booking sheet
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I have too many compliments to make about here so I 'd rather list them up: 1. Hospitality - the owners are sweet old couples who try to accommodate your needs as much as possible. They have old snowboards, skis and boots they used to rent out before. They offered to use them for free as long as we could. Sizes are limited so consider this as a complimentary service (おまけ) They also allowed a free 1-hour late checkout. They really try to make exceptions as long as it doesn't go against bothering other guests etc. 2. Facilities - a very well managed 2-story house. Clean rooms, beds, shared hot springs and our most favourite spot, the dining area. We sat in front of the fireplace (A GENUINE FIREPLACE) on the rocking chairs as long as we wanted to. There's a piano too where my friend played and the ownered didn't bother at all. 3. Food - nice and delicious homemade Japanese-Western meals. Dinner is course and you can order drinks including beer and wine. 4. Snowboarding - the house is located just 2-minute walk away from the Fujiwara ski resort. Honestly it's a very small ski slope with 3 lifts and is often recommended for families with kids. However if you're not a hardcore snowboarder or a beginner this place can be a small but nice half-day entertainment. There is also a Minakami Kogen ski resort which is 10-minute drive away and that's huge. Next time I wish to check out here. (The owner offered free shuttle to there!) Overall a great getaway experience and I would love to visit again! 本当にありがとうございました!
Cons: There is no convenience store nearby so you might want to bring some snacks before you arrive. (オーナーさん、ピーナッツ等のスナック系もミニバーで販売するのもいいと思います!) Hot spring is very hot so you'd want to add some cold water before you boil your legs.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were amazing! I recommend you go with the half board option, the food is so good (and the are no options close by for dinner). They drove us to Minakami Kogen the first night to have dinner, Minkami fujiwara ski resort is really close! Spent a day boarding there and then they arranged travel for us to Hodaigi ski resort (highly recommend this place! it has 6 lifts and ranges from beginners to advanced - plenty of restaurants there too). Their onsen is by far the best I have experienced to date.

Pros: The beautiful setting in nature. I especially love mountains and forests so the setting was ideal. The hot springs were especially good and most enjoyable.
Cons: It was all great.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was an extraordinary experience. The staff are so lovely, the setting and baths themselves are peaceful and beautiful. We had an amazing Keisei dinner that we will never forget.
Cons: Nothing to fault
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The most wonderful experience we had on our trip to Japan. We only wished we had booked to stay another day. The evening meal was intimate and special as was the breakfast. It was my partners birthday and the staff made her a card and made her day
9,6 Excellent
Pros: It was a beautiful traditional stay. The room itself had everything I needed and I personally had a view on the river! I was prepared to check in and ask about everything in Japaness, but the lady welcoming me to the Onsen and explaining everything had AMAZING english and was super helpful. Don't hesitate to ask questions - it can be confusing the first time but it's worth it! There was a mix of a buffet abd very traditional food for dinner. I wasn't used to all the tastes but even so I apreciated being able to try and taste everything and be able to experience new tastes! And even if you have a sensitive palate like me, there were still some simple things like fried noodles and dumplings that you can fill yourself up on. There are also drink (including alcohol) and ice-cream vending machines, in true Japanese fashion, if you need a pick-me up at night! The baths themselves were spectacular. I was able to bathe and relax in hot water under the dark sky, while looking over onto a lively river below. It was such a beautiful, and spiritual even, experience! I'd recommend it to anyone and would love to go back :)
Cons: There's not much more I would've personally wanted! I have crossed paths with a mouse during the stay. I find them cute so it didn't bother me, but I know it can be upsetting for some. I will say, I did stay in the oldest building and the Onsen is pretty much by a forest in a rural area, so things like that, including moths etc are unavoidable. But I will say there weren't any cockroaches or any bugs thag would be super upsetting, and none in my room. If it makes it up for anyone, I was able to meet a lovely frog on the way back from the open air baths! A sweet lovely baby!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The service is superb
Cons: The bathroom taps are affected by the hot water.
3,3 Mediocre
Pros: Onsen I great
Cons: Food is terrible. Came5 years ago was good. Now mass catering and dirty and bsd quality. Worst food in.japan. v unusual as japan prides itself on cleanliness and good quality even in simple places. This is way overpriced for experience. They need to update facilities as the location is brilliant.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Food was yummy (especially the shrimp, fresh fruit, and roast beef) The shuttle bus was super convenient and I love that the hotel gave me specific directions to get through the train station, including photos. Very reassuring. The onsen is just gorgeous. Stunning landscape. Loved having it to myself at 6 in the morning though it was never overly crowded throughout the day. Great style room with wonderful view.
Cons: I was disappointed that all of the baths no longer permit traditional nude bathing. I wish it was optional. I think the communal shoes (both indoor and outdoor) could use some disinfecting/cleaning. They smelled a bit musty and were dusty and old looking. A later check out would be ideal.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Just for the beginning - Wow! This hotel or rather Ryokan was one of my greatest experiences ever. First this is an incredible area. so quiet and relaxing to be in this place and especially the variety of the Onsens was so good in this stunning nature area. I wasted a lot of time there for purifying and healing my wounds and my skin. Really an authentic experience to discover the old Japanese culture accordingly the onsens, the structure's style of the building that is very clean and polished. the meals were so delicious, off course the dishes were from the Japanese cuisine. And above all - the staff. Yes, the staff cared to every thing. from the beginning of my stay when the nice receptionist showed me every kinds of facilities and amenities of the Ryokan and during the meals they made for me specific instruction for the dishes that I can eat because I have some allergies. Defiantly they were the most welcoming staff that I have ever seen.
Cons: Nothing. I recommend you to arrive to this Ryokan without any fears.

5,4 Okay
Pros: The food was pretty good.
Cons: There isn't much to do if you don't know how to ski. The onsen baths were fine, and the first day I used it, it was nice. But on the second day, lots of tours groups entered the hotel, and because there was a huge crowd at the onsen, the experience of a leisurely, relaxing bath was practically impossible. There were lots of children in the hotel, so maybe it's good for families with young children, but I wouldn't recommend for families without young children.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Perfect. From the staff to the food to the view. All is more than what we imagine we could get. I regret staying for only one night.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: good place for family,a lot of activity snow for all .
Cons: So far away from jomo kogen station.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really friendly staff, excellent facilities, great view from the room, shuttle bus to and from the JR train stations, stunning outdoor (and indoor) onsen, breakfast and dinner included in accommodation fee (and the buffet food is delicious and made on local ingredients), ski/snowboard rental and school attached to the hotel. Amazing snow!!!! And they really are on the slopes, we would clip into our snowboards outside the hotel and snowboard to the bottom, we'd snowboard all day then unclip and walk back inside the hotel. There are so many beautiful things to say about this hotel. And thank you Ichi-Sensei for teaching us to snowboard, love Geoffrey-san (and Natalie-san). If we get the chance to return, we will definitely book here again.
Cons: During peak times, lifts inside the hotel can be slow.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly & politely staff.
Cons: Room, facility, snow & ski, service mind of staff, breakfast & dinner and friendly staff.
4,2 Okay
Pros: The only thing I liked is that it is located right in front the lift. And I should say that this resort is really picturesque in a winter time.
Cons: Awful hotel! The worst experience in Japan. Looks very old, ragged rooms and halls, towels have a strange smell - much better on the pictures that it has on Booking. Also difficult to get in you have no car - we took a taxi at the railway station, but on the way back it was impossible to arrange a taxi and they have just 2 transfers a day. Bathroom was tiny and didn't look very clean. And the price! A few days later we stayed at 5* hotel in the center of Tokyo which was cheaper than Sunbird.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were exceedingly helpful and seemed to enjoy being able to help in any way they could. The private onsens were beautiful and great after boarding. Attached ski field is relatively small but ideal for those with younger children. Other fields are close by and the staff recommended a dogsled tour (1hr) at a nearby field which was really fun.

Pros: Excellent food and spacious room. Staff drove us to Jomo-kogen station by their car.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a holiday on its own, very nice I loved every moment inside.
Cons: They did not get the message to collect us from the station so we had to pay bus fare and walk far with our luggage
7,5 Good
Pros: Great view for onsen
Cons: A little bit far from public transit
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hot springs were a delight. Views were incredible. Prime location. Huge buffet style breakfast included. Lovely staff. Couldn’t recommend this place more for a stay in Minikami. It exceeded expectations.
Cons: I wasn’t told of any free wifi while here. Bedding was a touch uncomfortable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff did their best to help us get around and a few that could speak English were friendly
7,9 Good
Pros: Friendly hotel staff, large hot springs in the hotel, close to the centre of Minakami, shuttle bus goes from and to the hotel.
Cons: Minakami itself is past its golden age. It's still a nice place to go to for hot springs and sporting activities, however it has quite a few abandoned/derelict buildings ruining the feel of the place.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: We had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the onsen. There are three public baths from which you have a more or less beautiful view on the river directly beneath. We had a japanese style room and everything was clean. The breakfast buffet was amazing with a lot of different choices (japanese / western).
Cons: nothing really if anything, the facilities are not the newest anymore.
10,0 Excellent
Cons: The blanket is too thick
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very nice, helpful and super friendly. Always making sure you enjoy your stay at the hotel. The floor in the change room was very warm. We booked mountain view but did not see much of the mountain but got good view of the river, it was nice to hear the river flowing next to the room, it makes you feel calm, relaxed and comfortable. Dinner was traditional Japanese food which was nice and fresh. Breakfast was great, good selection of traditional and local food for breakfast. Onsen was great, it was nice and clean, no smell, a great variety of onsens available especially private onsen. It was a very nice and quiet hotel.
Cons: Smoking area should be outside. Not enough privacy with outdoor onsen, onlookers could see people bathing naked. No hand towel in the room. The whole hotel and the rooms looked old and dated.
6,3 Good
Pros: Another of the reception staff was very helpful and river is beautiful. Private onsen was nice.
Cons: Public Onsens were not available to people with tattoos and first room a/c was broken and we had to move all of our stuff from one room to the next without any help again. Doesn't seem to be geared to cater for foreign tourists. The outside terrace was serverely dilapidated hence could not go outside. one of the reception was not particularly helpful and at times seemed rude. There was no restaurant service when we went for as hoc meals and lunch so had to go to family mart.
