Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh - Building
3
9,3 Excellent (2 212 reviews)
R3 013+
Overview Reviews
Where the storied three rivers meet in downtown Pittsburgh, your own story begins at Hotel Monaco. Housed in a striking 1903 building in the Central Business District across from Mellon Square Park, our boutique hotel has a playfully bold design that’s unafraid to make a statement. Across 248 guest rooms, 13 suites, and 11,300 square feet of meeting space, you’ll see curiously charming touches, like golden birdcage chandeliers, while many of our 13 suites boast separate living rooms with sleeper sofas, soaking tubs and views of the city skyline.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Smell, decor EVERYTHING
Cons: I loved everything
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Ambiance of the hotel is incredible!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lots of color and life to this place. The Bloody Mary bar and breakfast was outstanding! Even if you don't stay here, go there!
Cons: Wish it had a pool and that the Biergarten was open in the winter too.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel was very convenient. We arrived in Pittsburgh at about 4:30 on a Friday afternoon and it was Valentine's Day. There was considerable vehicular traffic and the hotel lobby was packed with well-dressed patrons preparing for who-knows-what. A tiny delay at check-in, but understandable given the time of day, crowd and holiday. Room was fine, all staff we had contact with agreeable and competent. Ate breakfast two mornings in the Commoner restaurant. Food and service there also good. Our first trip to Pittsburgh in many years and staying at Kimpton Monaco made it a comfortable and pleasant experience.
Cons: No negatives stand out as memorable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We love the upscale boutique charm, the rooms were very modern with boutique
Cons: The elevators were a bit tricky. You had to use your key card for every floor level. They got messed up a lot it seems. I was taken up and back down, when I was just trying to go to my room!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Room Was Very Spacious, with A Good View. Ideal Location For Getting Around Pittsburgh. Spot On Service With Very Helpful Staff.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is the place to stay while in Pittsburgh, PA. Close to everything nice neighborhood, walking distance to an array of small local stores and amazing old homes. The staff is super friendly and very attentive to the guests. It’s your home away from home. The housekeeping staff keeps the place immaculate. One key thing is they do not charge for parking which adds up in other hotels in the area. Thank You so much to the entire staff!! You guys are awesome!! 10+++++
Cons: Everything was perfect!!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was secure with lots of door locks and security camera's in the common area. I liked the coffee stand in the kitchen in Bldg F. The one bedroom suite was very nice and comfortable. I loved the SunnySide area which had lots of walkable restaurants.
Cons: I think the tub has been resurfaced and was extremely slick and there were no hand grabs which made it feel very hazardous for my size and age. I bought my own non-slip tub mat at Target and put it in my tub to reduce my slip/fall risk during showers.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The beds was very comfy, rooms was very big, had everything u needed
Cons: No tv in smaller room
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient location. Walking distance to shops and restaurants
7,0 Good
Pros: All that said, it is affordable and well located and it's nice to have a kitchenette (refrigerator, range, microwave, drip coffee maker).
Cons: Each morning the cleaning crew made so much noise it was impossible to be in the room without losing one's mind. From 8AM to past Noon a huge racket happening each day. Old plumbing, hot water takes a few minutes to come through and toilet requires a few flushes. One of the light switches failed due to old wiring so I slept with the light on for two nights.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was OUTSTANDING!!! The room was spacious and nothing was overlooked.
Cons: Size of bathroom (small), would have much preferred feather pillows, and needed towels for there as we registered for three guests. Only had towels for two. We realize we could have called and requested more, so this is minor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The comfort of the hotel
Cons: The bed was hard and not comfortable and the bathroom had hair everywhere on the windows seal on the floor mat and the tub. The bed even had some hair on it
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was large, clean, bright and fully equipped Not your typical big box hotel more like an old apartment building that has been fully modernized.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Way above what I expected!
Cons: No
8,5 Excellent
Pros: Bit pricey, but overall good
Cons: Parking availability bit of an issue
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Booked for parent's weekend at Pitt. A little too much space for what we needed but would definitely book again.
Cons: Only thing is that I'd bring my own pillow next time.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Super cute little boutique hotel. Nice details--welcome bag with water, chocolate, instant oatmeal and snack crackers was sweet. Front desk guy friendly and efficient. Lots of room in the room!
Cons: The desk area was extremely dark and there was no outlet available to plug in my laptop. So relocated myself and worked at the dining room table (we had suite) which was fine. Very bright, close to an outlet and a bigger workspace.
The Priory Hotel - Pittsburgh - Building

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a 24-hour business center, and express check-in. Planning an event in Pittsburgh? 10,0 Excellent
Pros: Charming hotel with a homey feel. Cozy room, nice courtyard, and overall more peaceful than major hotels the shuttle service was a wonderful feature and Monk's Bar was a great way to unwind. Couldn't ask for a better experience
Cons: The bathroom was a tighter fit than I'm used to but not so bad as to change my mind about this place
9,7 Excellent
Pros: The staff was Amazing and very helpful. The only thing I didn’t rate as Great was the location, only because it is a short walk to the major attractions and not in the best area, not that we had any issuess. But the hotel offered a free shuttle to all of the locations we were trying to go to. Also one of the few hotels offering Free parking. The small bar was really cool and had all the offerings I needed. The hotel is old but really neat and I appreciated all the fine details. The breakfast wasn’t out of this world , but it was free so I wasn’t complaining.
Cons: For the price and services I have no complaints .
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are quaint and pleasant.
Cons: The street and neighborhood are a little uncomfortable for walking, especially at night.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is a family-owned former monastery. It's an old building tucked at the end of a quiet street that's in a great central location; easy walking distance to the Warhol Museum, Children's Museum and baseball park, with the cultural district just over the bridge. The Priory has a free shuttle service and personable drivers (don't forget to tip them!) The rooms are clean and have everything you need but the place does remind me a little of the B&B in Groundhog Day, which is to say it may be too quaint and old fashioned for some. It's quiet and cozy.
Cons: Although I was very happy with my stay, the bathroom was small (just a shower, no tub) and the bathroom sink drained very slowly. The staircase is creaky and the carpeting is a little threadbare. I thought these things were charming but others may perceive them as dreary.
7,7 Good
Pros: Really nice old place with a lot of charm. Great historic building. Staff was really nice.
Cons: Bed was hard and rug looked like it might have not been vacuumed.
9,1 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely nice and knowledgeable of the area. The rooms were spacious and clean. Parking was close and the shuttle was a great bonus!
Cons: The street was not the nicest but that's not the hotel's fault.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: nice bar and lobby with fireplace.
Cons: i was right off the lobby. very noisy if you are in a room near the lobby.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location to everything! Delicious breakfast … free parking … clean pool and jacuzzi! Staff was incredible!!

Pros: Easy to find, private lot parking. Good breakfast. Directly across street from Heinz History Center. Easy walking to some restaurants, the famous Strip District and Davis Lawrence Convention Center. Barely a 10 minute walk to the Cultural District. Lovely room. Great staff. Good for families, saw a lot. We didn't have a river view but I'm sure the rooms that do are super views.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were excellent and very helpful. Our room was comfortable and very clean
4,0 Okay
Cons: The rooms are set up with a door which can be opened for adjoining rooms. This door is metal, and when closed and locked it acted like a resonator. I could hear all the noise from my very loud neighbors as if they were in my own room.

Cons: No mini bar or pool.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: location
Cons: no
5,0 Okay
Cons: we reserved a queen room with two queen beds, but the beds were actually double sized beds which were to small...we could have stayed somewhere less expensive if that were the case...we were charged for the queen beds, but got the smaller beds...did not have a good night's sleep!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The corner room on the 10th floor had an excellent view of Market Square, which was set up for Christmas. We could see the ice skaters going around the big Christmas tree. Really loved the city view!
Cons: Except for Christmas morning, there was no one in the lobby. I personally like a busy feel to the lobby, but I guess since they don't serve breakfast, no one hung around.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location; a quick walk to the water, bridges, forts, but off on a quieter side street.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent front desk support from Doug
10,0 Excellent

Pros: Super clean, well maintained, and in a great location to access downtown pittsburgh/ market square attractions. My other guest forgot her key and I was asleep, but the concierge was very friendly and gave her another. Much appreciated.
Cons: Parking is expensive - would appreciate a discount for hotel stayers.
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: Security in Elevator
Cons: The parking for $30.00 per night is outrageous. I used to live there and hotels 1 block down the street charges less than that and they valet your vehicle. As you enter the hotel it smells like suagge and smells the same in the room.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The location and the view.
Cons: The parking was expensive. The homeless hanging out were a little too real.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: So central to everything downtown. A clean, modern hotel.

Pros: The architecture.
7,0 Good
Cons: Room was very hot and the a/c did not work, so I had to turn off the heating fan and open the windows on the 7th floor, to cool the room down and once cool enough I left the fan off. It worked but not as expected for a hotel like this.
7,0 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Room was cold, heating was noisy and did not heat the room windows steamed up and were loose...
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and hotel remains as one of the better 4 star hotels in Pittsburgh. Public areas are nice.
Cons: Rooms are a bit dated. Not bad, but this was not a 4 star room.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is very nice looking both in and outside the building and has a Starbucks inside
Cons: Food was pretty expensif. No free parking for the hotel.
6,0 Good
Pros: The location is great, and it's easy to walk anywhere downtown from the hotel. The lobby is very nice. And the staff are very helpful.
Cons: The room looked very small for a deluxe king, and it looked as if it had been quickly readied. The last I stayed at the hotel, the room looked welcoming and clean. This time, just stodgy and faded. It was okay, but I wasn't impressed.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was close to the Steel Plaza so we were able to take the train to and from our venue. Also close to restaurants that were open late. The staff were polite and very helpful with any questions I had.
Cons: Have a arthritic knee so the stairs in various areas did present somewhat of a challenge.

Pros: Great location near inexpensive parking and the T. Big rooms.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The staff, location, food, views, rooms, spa, etc. Top hotel
Cons: 2 things only. 15usd for wifi per day? Too expensive! It should have free wifi. And the parking, 32dls for the day, also very expensive. In others top hotels they dont charge you for that, its complementary, just like wifi. But here, is a rip off
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The service and amenaties were Excellent and every emmployee was attentive and efficient.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: Definitely a top-notch hotel. Everything you would expect when staying somewhere at this price point.
Cons: I second the other comment about the nickel and diming. Valet and Wifi should be included in the cost of your stay. Also, I was very unimpressed by the food at the hotel bar, Andy's. I wouldn't have minded the fact it was so overpriced as can be expected at a hotel, but the Angus sliders had no taste. We should have made a quick walk over to Primanti Brothers which is only about 5 minutes away on the square.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, nice sized rooms. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Really nice spa and gym. The bed was comfortable, and the room had all the amenities I would expect to find in fine lodging.
Cons: Only real complaint was finding a bucket of fried chicken (several days old) in the mini fridge of the room we stayed in....
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from the music in the lobby the convenient location.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: How quiet the rooms are on each floor, and how close in proximity it is to Heinz Hall!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful, my room was a great size and the bathroom larger than most comparable hotels. I am a germaphobe and do not like staying in hotels but I was amazed at the cleanliness of this hotel and was very comfortable staying here.
Cons: Room service on the second day dropped the ball. We ordered coffee every morning and on the second day I had to call after a half hour past the time of our order being due and they had no record of it so they put a rush and it arrived an hour late.

Pros: The spa was amazing! Beds very comfortable
Cons: The dining options especially for breakfast could’ve been better. I own a small breakfast and lunch cafe and I feel that the breakfast could’ve been better
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful jazz ensemble on Friday evening was a nice surprise. Everything was great!
9,7 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious and well adorned, view of the stadium and river was beautiful, and the building itself has a sleek elegance that can't be overstated. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food at Habitat and Andy's, while expensive, was delicious. We stayed for the first time on Valentine's day and plan on doing the same next year.
Cons: The price is excessive, nearly $400 for one night. While you certainly get what you pay for, I would recommend staying elsewhere unless you can justify this kind of expenditure as it really is a one a year kind of splurge for us. You also have to pay for wi-fi ($15 a day) which is just silly considering the cost to stay.

Pros: Nice room
Cons: We were not informed of hours of the shuttle and was stranded for close to an hour until could get a taxi and $30 later to get back to hotel.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: That everything was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good and hot, with plenty of items to choose from. The beds were very comfortable. The shuttle bus was great and saved me time and let me relax as I didn't have to drive and figure out my route in the heavy traffic.
Cons: Everything was great except to us was the pool. Great location, great seating, the exception was getting into the pool was a little hard. The railing was on the low side for a adult especially a handicapped adult. Also probably from not a daily use the steps were little slimy slick. Thank God I was on the bottom step when I fell into the water.

Pros: The room was satisfactory. I did not like the sliding door to the bathroom, it was hard to close. The running water was cold in the morning so, couldn't take a shower after waking up. And the cleaner did not give us any toilet paper for the second day, had to ask for it.
Cons: I did not like that the front counter associate tried to get me to take a room with a double bed for my husband and I. After saying no to her once, she tried a second time to give me this particular room with double beds. I was getting mad at this point.

Cons: The livingroom furniture was old, dirty, and stained. For 600 plus dollars l was very dissatisfied. Once I checked in I had to request to be moved to another room because of the condition of the furniture. It was dirty and stained. Once I moved into the next suite, the furniture was dirty and stained but not as bad so I settled because at the point I felt the was the condition of all the rooms. I wouldn't return there because the cost is way too much for the condition of the out dated furniture. The bedrooms and bathrooms were good though!

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Front desk was friendly and was quick with your needs
Cons: Check out time could of been later also no free breakfast
1,0 Poor
Pros: Location is good. But access can be problematic. The entrance is often blocked by cars lined up to exit the Sheetz gas station and getting into the hotel parking lot was often a struggle.
Cons: We've stayed at this Marriott numerous times over the years because of its proximity to my wife's family in Penn Hills. This will be the last time. Here are the reasons why. Upon pulling back the sheets we discovered the TV remote and someone's Christmas shopping list under the covers. There could be only one explanation for this: the housekeeper did not change the sheets. We were expected to sleep in used bedding. My wife would have none of it. There was also a razor and shaving cream and long black hairs in the shower stall. There was also evidence that the floors had not been vacuumed. It was blindingly obvious to us that this room had not been cleaned from the previous night(s). This realization also raised the possibility that this may be a common situation at this particular Marriott. Without the evidence of the remote and shopping list we would have never known. One could blame this on a lazy housekeeper, but one has to wonder if this could be a management issue. Surely someone in management must be aware of how many sheets are being laundered on a daily basis. Perhaps this is even a conscious, cost-cutting stratagem. At any rate, we are done with this Marriott.
7,1 Good
Pros: The location was very close to the event I had to attend.
Cons: the hotel was nice but it could have had more stations on the television. I had previously stayed in a best western in Va for half the price and the best western was as nice if not better than the courtyard in Monroeville. The hotel though, was very close to the event I was attending. If I had to choose between a best western or this chain I would definitely choose a Best Western though.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Convenient surrounding with restaurants
