The bed was very comfortable
The iPad in the room didn’t work, the bar staff were not particularly accommodating when it came to dietary requirements.
Room, ambience, the history, the location, safety. Bed was very comfortable. Would liked to have known in advance that my room had a balcony so I could have brought a cigar but I'll know for next time.
The breakfast buffet wasn’t as good as others I’ve visited. The mushrooms ruined my omelette. Took two bites and couldn't finish it. I told the maître d'. Had to tell staff that the beans were almost cold - the temperature wasn't set right. Very odd that all the hot items such as eggs, sausages, tomatoes, etc were in the side room, but some items were on the main area pastry table - beans, mushrooms. Had to phone about how to close curtains. Wasn't made obvious that the button is on the bed console. Found the lack of lamps in my room disappointing. Mood lighting is everything. Hotel help delivered a lamp but it didn’t work. Was disappointed with the salad I ordered with my room service. It was mostly rocket, which I'm not a fan, and I can't remember the individual salad items being listed on the iPad. I didn't finish it. I also thought the early evening dinners were unhealthy - white processed burger buns and chips accompanying most meals. I ordered the gyoza and wraps as a result, and chose that rocket salad instead, however chips arrived on my tray and the attendant had to take them back and return with the salad. I asked Concierge for a great pizza restaurant for Saturday night and Da Guido 365 was recommended. Informed it was a short walk, too. Told to exit from the rear of the hotel, turn right, walk two blocks to Queen Street then turn left - less than ten minutes. I double-checked with the Concierge; when I exit the rear of the hotel, do I turn left or right? He replied right. Well, this took me in the completely opposite direction, and I ended up having to get an Uber because I was now late for my 5.45pm reservation. I got to the restaurant at 6.05pm flustered, because I was seeing RAGTIME at 7.30pm and I hate not getting to a show at least 30 minutes before it starts. The food at Da Guido was brilliant, but I got to the State Theatre and 7.10pm by rushing through my dinner. The experience put a dampener on my night.
Breakfast was great!
The lighting is always quite dark - more light would be nice.
Staff was magnificent, room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was absolutely delicious. Great location.
Our rom was at the back of the hotel and we were woken each night by the garbage trucks.
