Pros: Great communication, the owners are extremely friendly; they had a lot of amazing tips about where to go and where to get the best views. Great service, location and value for money. Would definitely come back!

Pros: The location is amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautifully designed and cleaned and have everything you need. I would stay again for the view alone is breathtaking.
Cons: The breakfast was disappointing the food did not seem very fresh and not a lot of choice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Basiliani is in the heart of all you came to see... behind San Pietro for ~200m, just beyond both the Casa Grotto and St Lucia, in Caveoso. Its rock-carved rooms are spotless, and hold every convenience you hope for... including a bathtub in #129, and coffee/tea making for that wake-up cuppa! It also overlooks the famous gorge of the ‘sassi’, and chauffeurs you to/from your car, safely parked on the outskirts of this pedestrian gem. Oh, and the breakfast is varied, fresh and superb!
Cons: Absolutely zilch!

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very interesting hotel in the middle of the Sassi, room big and clean, staff very nice and location perfect to walk all the city
Cons: Quite difficult to find and the breakfast too simple
9,4 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is located in a quiet area with an unobstructed view across the valley. Interesting walks through the streets and paths. We had good fun losing our way in the misty fog trying to find our way but all the time feeling safe and sound. Hotel staff very friendly and a special thanks to Pasquale (hope that's spelt correctly) for the top class service of collecting us from our parked hire car which was outside the old cave town.
Cons: We had a brilliant time. Local Information Centre was asking for €40 each for a 2 hour tour. We managed Ok with online research and a lot of walking. Room 128 could have done with a cleaner toilet seat but the rest of the room was stunning and memorable.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The couple who run the B & B clearly love hosting visitors with a great passion. The personal touches made a huge difference to our overall enjoyment and comfort. My travel companion enjoyed many a conversation with Cataldo as regards to historical facts relating to Matera and beyond! The apartment is spacious and well furnished with the right balance of privacy and access to the beautiful garden and breakfast area. Elena who served us breakfast is delightful too! After a long drive to Matera we were very tired and called the B & B to ask for help to find the house Cataldo and Lia came by car to show us the way! Thank you! In the evening we asked for a recommendation for a quick dinner and were advised to visit a local pizzeria Lo Zodiaco within easy walking distance. What a pleasure! The pizzeria was a complete joy, a perfect evening spent drinking local beer and eating fantastic pizza hosted by the young passionate owner Cosimo. Cosimo also recommended his brother's restaurant for the following evening, Dalla Padella alla brace in Matera centre that was also a wonderful experience. Both exceptionally best value for money! Thank you all! We shall be back!
Cons: Absolutely nothing!
10,0 Excellent

Pros: We had a very memorable stay at B&B Solacium. On our arrival we were greeted by Lia. She was fabulous, charming and very friendly. Instantly felt at home! The room was more than that as it had a small kitchen and living room area all for us. Clean and very comfortable. Lia was also very helpful in giving us a lot of information about Matera and the Sassi. Provided us with maps and directions. Breakfast was very good and served in our room. No more than a few minute drive to Centro and Sassi. Would definitely go back and recommend to all travelling to Matera. Grazie per tutti!

Beds are huge and very comfortable, 2 sinks to share and a lovely large shower. Would recommend this hotel while staying in Matera and also worth paying €20 per day at the garage which was booked for us by the hotel as 'old Marera' is pedestrianised with lots of steps!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room in a lovely hotel, friendly staff and great location for Gallipoli.
Cons: The rooftop pool and large room!
7,1 Good
Cons: Upon departure, we had a car booked to take us to the airport at 4 am. That car never showed up. The night person (he didn’t give us his name) was absolutely terrible. He didn’t know how to make the payment, didn’t know how to calculate it or how to use a credit card. When we realised the car wasn’t coming, he was arguing with us and blaming the day staff that the didn’t leave a note telling him and he doesn’t have their numbers, they aren’t picking up, he doesn’t know who the driver is. When we asked him to call another taxi for us he did absolutely nothing and said no one is picking up. We had to call ourselves and find a taxi to pick us up and rush to the airport because we were 45 minutes late. This night person also refused to give us a contact of a manager because we were furious with him at that point, he even tried arguing with the taxi driver when he came (the one that we called) about how he tried to call him but his phone was off (which wasn’t true because we clearly managed to call). This person ruined our stay at the very last moment. He had no knowledge of his job or duties, blamed everyone else and took no responsibility. This was unacceptable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff was extremely helpful. They addressed our sudden request instantly. Everything in the hotel was up to its reputation. True 5 stars hotel.

Cons: Nothing that I can comment. The only difficulty is the parking availability being handled by a vale parking facility

7,9 Good
Pros: Location, property and reception staff were perfect. Smartest cave we’ve ever stayed in. Food area and breakfast was amazing.
Cons: They had a lovely bar area that was hardly ever open. Drinks served until 6.30pm unless you were dinning, strange a five star resort with no usable bar? Bar had great views over Matera valley but we couldn’t use it. Also a very expensive stay.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Best location. Decorations of the room are very beautiful.
Cons: Nothing
7,9 Good
Pros: Very good location in the historic part of Matera, with a spacious & interesting room largely within an old cave. Excellent dinner & friendly service on the terrace of the hotel’s restaurant & pleasant breakfast buffet inside the restaurant the next morning.
Cons: Air conditioning thermostat in our room either ineffective or faulty (insufficient cooling for comfortable sleeping, even at lowest temperature setting & highest fan speed), room wi fi not working (wi fi worked ok in the hotel restaurant) + no bar in the hotel for cold drinks after late afternoon arrival. Reception staff not overly concerned or helpful when these issues reported - e.g. directed us to public bar in nearby square.
7,5 Good
Pros: The view was superb, the food in restaurant was outstanding, the size of room was great, the cleanliness could not be faulted. the staff were extremely helpful. The bed and bedding were very comfortable.
Cons: The air-conditioning system... it cannot be controlled from your room, it is extremely noisy with one unit being positioned right next to bed. In our 4 day stay we had to ask for the unit next to bed to be turned off, and then had to ask reception another couple of times to adjust settings but it still switched on and off continuously and noisily throughout the night making sleeping very difficult. The tap for sink...a design statement that unfortunately did not work, even after calling for room service to look at it we found it very difficult to operate and continuously cleaned our teeth in hot water or got soaked trying to adjust flow of water. Also felt that for size of bathroom a smaller bath would have been better and then a shower could have been put in as well. The most uncomfortable toilet seat ever...again style over comfort.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location of this hotel is amazing - right in the heart of Matera, with stunning views of the town and the valley. It is stylish, welcoming, beautifully decorated and completely unique.
Cons: Nothing.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The position was amazing and the suite quite unique as we were in a cave suite. Breakfast really good in a wonderful cave restaurant.
Cons: I think that the lighting in our room could be improved
7,9 Good
Pros: Location and restaurant view.
Cons: Staff - unprofessional. No parking infront of location, only valet parking for € 25 per day plus each time you want to use your car, it’s another € 5 on the top.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: What an extraordinary place - right in the heart of the Sassi. The views from the hotel were amazing - especially when three James Bond cars drove by, part of the new Bond film. The staff were excellent- Peter was great and should be running the place! All in all, a wonderful place to stay in one of them most incredible places in the world!
Cons: Nothing!
5,0 Okay
Pros: Great feeling of the history of the Sassi in the bedrooms which are part cave structure
Cons: The room is very separate from the facilities so that you have to leave the bedroom in order to get to the breakfast room which means going outside into the public pathway. Similarly to get to Reception area. Can be noisy as the public are immediately outside your bedroom door.
7,3 Good
Pros: It was interesting to stay (partially) in a cave. The rooms are built into the cliffs. I liked the balcony of the room. The food itself was not spectacular but, in general, it was good.
Cons: Some services were lacking but these can be rectified. There was no information sheet (that is easy to do - write on the computer & print). For example, I was not told that there was a bar which had a library and that we would have a welcome drink. In terms of the dining room, they are trying - but sometimes service is slow (cold capucchino, being served the first course - e.g. pasta before choosing your wine). Again, these problems can easily be rectified. They are trying and do welcome feedback. I am a professor of management and they were grateful for the few suggestions I made.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The room and the view from the hotel were significant and impressive! Room was clean and staffs were friendly. Breakfast at the hotel restaurtant was rich and gorgeous.
Cons: Nothing.
6,7 Good

Cons: 2 power cuts which we had to tell the hotel about rather than them telling us.

Pros: Breakfast was excellent...our server Maria was fantastic and was there to greet us every morning.
Cons: Coffee not available in the room
7,1 Good
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the property modern and clean.
Cons: The only issue was that is the description it stated that the suite 210 was 100 meters away from reception. It DID NOT mention that those 100 meters were down a very steep walkway of some 80 odd steps or more. my wife has a back issue and found this very difficult to traverse on a daily basis. If we had known this we would not have booked this suite. would not recommend suites 201-210 to anyone with walking difficulties.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location and style
Cons: Tricky to access, very dry in rooms at night, staff speak no English...as in zero
9,6 Excellent

9,6 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very helpful and the location was amazing. Our room was large, airy and bright with a lovely comfy bed. The breakfast was good and the host was very accommodating.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic boutique hotel - try to get room 103 (very large, high ceilings and comfortable). The location, in the middle of the old town, was excellent and thank goodness they helped us park the car and get back to the hotel. The breakfast was delicious and there was tea and a tea pot in the room. We all loved the hotel. It was easy to hire a local guide right as we arrived at the hotel for the next day. Matera is a fascinating town.
Cons: None of the staff spoke English so could not help us with questions or suggestions. The hotel is a attached to the right of the church in the photo below. It doesn’t look like much, but it was charming and very well done
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location
Cons: Waste bins being emptied bout 4am outside
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great renovated hotel rooms. Lovely staff during breakfast and front desk.
Cons: Staff only speaks Italian. It was difficult to communicate, I wish they could speak English at least in the Front desk.

Pros: Location, modern installations, cleanliness, attentive staff. Breakfast buffet, outside terrace to have breakfast. Parking (extra cost) on the premises
Cons: In general, the hotel met or exceeded expectations. The only item to improve was that the parking spaces were limited, and there was no guarantee that space will be available upon check in. Fortunately, I was able to park the first night in spaces outside the garage and inside the garage the second night.

Pros: Great breakfast, helpful staff
Cons: Electric jug in room/coffee
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent cleaning service, and very central position, perfect for walks in the city centre at every time of the day.
Cons: I had a room on the street side. The street below is a street in the heart of the city centre, which is not quiet, not early in the morning nor late in the evening.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the centre of Matera. A friendly bar next door was convenient. The historic old town is a few minutes walk away. Lots of restaurants nearby. Less than 10 minutes walk from the central bus station.
6,3 Good
Pros: the position
Cons: horrible mix of styles and forniture, bad lighting
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, spacious room, with a very comfortable bed and nicely decorated. The location is great because it is in the centre and if you have heavy bags you don't have to worry about carrying up stairs. Great restaurants nearby as well. Although it is in the centre, it is still very quiet within the rooms. I had a balcony which had screens, shutters, glass doors and internal wooden doors which really blocked out any noise. I slept really well which was great as I was in Matera for work.
Cons: The breakfast was very poor. Not much choice and what was there was not healthy or fresh. The bread was packaged supermarket bread, the cheese was highly processed - tasted more like rubber than cheese. No selection of good tea, no eggs and the fruit was almost mouldy is was so old - no excuse as the produce in the region is so delicious and cheap. There weren't many guests as it was low season so perhaps they were putting out the bare essentials for the low season? There at least was a good quality yoghurt and muesli which I ate.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is really centrally located on the edge of the old town - the rooms are neat and clean. I had a room with three beds that was simply furnished. My sister had a suite for two people that was much bigger that had antique style furniture. Breakfast was very good. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and very helpful. As stated, the hotel is in a great location with all main sites in Matera in ready walking distance. I thought it was good value for money.
Cons: The hotel is in a pedestrian only area which means if you have a car you'll have to find parking nearby and walk with your bags to the hotel. It's not such a problem but it might inconvenience some people...

Pros: Accommodation. Thermae Romano...complete with sauna, hydro massage etc.
Cons: Advertised as a junior suite with jacuzzi...didn’t have a jacuzzi.Only one of the junior suites did and this was on a ‘ first guests to arrive get it’ basis!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Difficult to have a bad location in Matera! What a special place. The view from room 84 was spectacular. We did not mind the fact that it was not located in the main building at all. Staff was very helpful with our one large suitcase...lots of stairs! The room and the view exceeded expectations! Breakfast could have been a bit more generous in the food choices available given the pricing.
Cons: After booking the room through booking.com I have never had a more difficult time with a hotel. They kept threatening to cancel the reservation even after booking.com called them twice to point out the issue was with their system! It should be pointed out that booking.com was initially slow to provide the required customer service to solve the issue, but came through in the end. Glad we made it!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a dependance room which was lovely, away from the main part of the hotel and enjoyed the independence of our own space and the outdoor area looking over the Sassi. The room facilities were excellent but we had an unexplained extra trundle bed in our room (booked for a couple) which meant we had no indoor seating. However it didn’t bother us very much as the weather was lovely and we sat outside. The parking facility at Autoservizi Damasco was excellent and very well organised - both on arrival, at departure and on a day trip we made during our stay. Don’t bother trying to find the hotel when you first arrive (if you’re driving) - just drive straight to the parking garage on Recinto XX Settembre and they will transport you & your luggage to reception (down stairs & via a lift) with no hassle whatsoever.
Cons: The breakfast was very good but we decided it was easier and less fuss to go into the main square and have a real Italian coffee and delicious pastry for breakfast at Gran Caffe in Piazza Vittorio Veneto
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location and ambiance.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Location. Which is very near to centre. Room was very spacious (room38) and it's just a short walk away from main reception.
Cons: Thermal spa are to be paid seperately.

Pros: Snel incheck
Cons: Hospitality issues at the reception. Pool closed before 18.30. And no lunch service only snack. And no bar operator in the evening, the reception had to poor quickly our drinks. The pool was very small.

Cons: Would be v. nice if receptionist could smile at least when greating people on their arrival .We would feel more welcome ;-)
6,7 Good
Pros: Fantastic swimming pool. Good breakfast
Cons: The safe was not working
9,4 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, friendly staff, good restaurant, delicious and extensive breakfast, beautiful garden with pool. Plus they also have rooms with a wooden floor! Though it is not located in the centre it is only a 10 minute drive and parking at the hotel is easy.
Cons: Room with carpet and that not everybody from the staff speaks English which makes communication sometimes a challenge. But staff is friendly so you get there in the end.
5,8 Okay
Pros: It’s a nice, chain-like hotel. It has some historical features in the garden / pool area that I didn’t get to enjoy due to somewhat unhelpful staff. The person who was at reception was nice at first, telling me about a pizza place not too far where I could get some dinner. Everything was fine thus far.
Cons: When I returned from dinner, I asked about the pool, for the next morning, because it was obviously too late to use it after I checked in. She replied that the next day I couldn’t use the pool because it was my check out day... I added that I could only use it before check-out, she insisted that it was impossible, because they had to make sure there were not too many people wanting to use the pool at the same time, so only guests who were freshly arrived could use it (!). I’ve never heard such nonsense in my life. I travel to visit places, not to spend my waking hours in the hotel. I book nice hotels to get a good rest and enjoy a pool whenever possible (often in the morning before I go other places). It’s never been a problem before. If it truly is hotel policy, it’s not only stupid, it should also be clearly mentioned in the conditions of the stay before booking. Not only that, but the person was very unapologetic about it. Oh, and when I left in the morning, the surveillance screens behind her showed a very very empty pool / poolside.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: sophisticatedly english-speaking receptionist giving valuable advice for parking in and visiting Matera
Cons: admission for pool, not too much parking lots for hotel guests
