Beautiful and great location - some drawbacks that need improving We stayed here for 7 nights, which was longer than all other guests, it seemed most stayed a night or two just. I'll break down the different aspects of the hotel and our experience. Location: The Riad is located right next to the El Badi palace, a car can get you to the top of the alley it's located in. Don't be put off by the fact it's down an alley, there's a number of Riads down this street, residential homes and a mosque. So plenty of footfall and well lit. It's right next to the Mellah square which is bustling with shops and restaurants. The Bahia Palace is just around the corner, there are nearby foreign exchanges too. The cash machines in the area don't seem to accept foreign debit or MasterCard, so be aware. There are a few direct routes to Jemaa Al Fna from the Mellah square. So easy to navigate your way there and back, even at night. There's also plenty of taxis around the Mellah roundabout. The Riad: Coming into the Riad from the alley is like stepping into another world. It is so beautifully decorated in the Berber style. The smells are a wonderful assault on the senses. We received a warm welcome, and were shown to our room. The courtyards are very well kept and look fantastic. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They will provide tea complimentary any time during your stay. The door to the Riad is always closed, providing security, and someone is always there to let you in, so you don't take your key out with you. Room: The room itself was nicely decorated. It was quite small, leaving little room for our bags. The bathroom was well decorated and clean, with a shower that, while not providing much pressure, churned out a lot of water. Each bathroom had a small window that was transparent, which is a little odd to say the least, especially given our window was right next to the cabinets where the maids kept all the towels and toilet roll.
It was simply unacceptable that our bill was split into two, our room bill which we eventually were able to pay by card, but then the extras, transfer, dinner, water, which we were told would be added to our bill, were in fact compiled on a separate bill that had to be paid in cash. Cash machines in and around the area didn't work, so paying this bill by cash left us with no money on our last day.
The amazing and delicious lamb tagine I had prepared by the Riad kitchen as supper along with moroccan salad, I was really delighted by the flavors and quality of the food. The service was superb. The Riad has beautiful facilities a quiet place near the Medina. I was woke up by the stork sings from the nests that you can see from the terrace, really nice view. The room is original decorated and comfy. Staff is so diligent, they arranged my transfer to the airport.
There was no handsoap on the bathroom.
The riad is gorgeous!!! What a pleasure to stay in a such a beautiful place, and the lamb tagine was DELICIOUS!
Lacks some ambience in dining area, a little music in the background will go a long way in making it less awkward to eat with other diners especially when one is travelling alone.
Amazing stuff, yummy breakfast really nice location. I highly recommend:)
