No swimming pool, lake too cold to swim.
This is a wonderful hotel on a tiny island in Lake Constance, accessed from the town by a small bridge. There is a lot of history here. It used to belong to the Macaire family and Ferdinand von Zeppelin was born in what is now the bar! Amelie Macaire was his mother. My partner happens to be related to Ferdinand and Amelie and so we spent all our time in Constance in the hotel - on the lakeside terrace, in the beer garden, the restaurant and the Zeppelin bar, as well in as our room. As expected, everywhere was of a very high standard. But we also appreciated how the history has been incorporated in a very tasteful way. Of course, we will return!
Gorgeous location with huge lakeside terrace and sunbathing garden. Loved the architecture and the history of the property as well as Konstanz generally. Our room was great with A/C, separate walk-in closet (huge), bathtub and loads of space (important if you like to do yoga in the mornings). What made this a really special stay though was the fabulous staff, especially at the front desk. All smart, super-helpful, fun, well-trained and multi-lingual. Would love to come back and will definitely recommend.
It’s hard to find fault with this place as we had such a lovely stay. Being very picky: 1) carpets in common parts on the first floor need refreshing or replacing 2) why no proper, plug-in hairdryer in the room since a clever desk/dressing table solution is provided? There’s a special place in hell for bathroom hairdryers that you have to keep your finger on for safety reasons. Whilst this was a good dryer, this solution feels cheap and dated. 3) no shower cap provided, and bathroom amenities limited (eg combo shampoo-conditioner which I personally detest) 4) the menu in the terrace restaurant is a bit weird, though not without charm.
Pretty much everything. The convenient acces to the lake for swimming was an extra bonus
A bit pricy in the restaurant, but one does not have to go there...
The location is the greatest, the breakfast is very good. The building is very nice and well preserved. The beer garten on the water is the best.
The terrace of the bar is occupied by thousands of flyes / mosquitos at night time which is creating a hygienic problem as they easily fall in your plate and also byte. They could solve this important problem by using the same special light tubes they use in the restaurant side of the terrace. I didn't see any smiling face in the front desk.
