Basically it’s over priced and has very little in the way of actual luxury. The grounds are well-maintained but the layout for the hotel is confusing and most things are literally nickel and dime in order to maximize the profitability of the resort. They should just have a single fee in order to provide transparency and target the right type of client for this facility
The grounds were beautiful and well kept. Breakfast at the poolside restaurant was excellent. Our room was spacious and had a great balcony, but could use an update. Still, everything was clean and our overall impression of the hotel was very good. I wish we had known about the possible manta ray viewing at night from the hotel overlook!
First off the place has been long overdue for a major renovation, no question. However, this is much more of a tourist hotel, that is more affordable than most other resorts on the Big Island. The location is great and the room was pretty good except for the bathroom. My biggest complaint was the mold and mildew in the bathroom. A simple 4.00 usd bottle of Chlorox would improve this issue a great deal. No excuse for not at least doing that in the last year or so! Overall, avoid this place if you are not prepared to get killed with add on resort fees,parking etc. and cannot look past some cosmetic eye sores. The bed was comfortable and fairly new and the staff were very helpful. The outside pool area and grounds are pretty nice, even historic. Otherwise be prepared to pay 500.00 + per night for any other fancy resort on the coast! Don’t like it? Find a time share rental such as Wyndham,for a lot les money.
This resort is desperately in need of a massive remodel. We had to change rooms because of severe drywall damage in our bathroom and water leaking out of the wall. They knowingly rented us this room. We had to settle for a lesser view to get a clean room. Within the last few months, management of the hotel was taken over by Outrigger from Marriott/Radisson. The highlight of the hotel should have been the restaurant Rays on the Bay where you can view manta rays feeding at night. That is closed with no signs of re-opening. The only evening dining option was a restaurant in the lobby which is overpriced and feels like dining in a mall food court. Overall, the grounds are pretty but shabby if you look closely. Even the pool deck reeked of garbage because it isn’t cleaned regularly. We absolutely would not stay here again.
