Ishiba Ryokan - Hirosaki - Building
1
8,9 Excellent (376 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Ishiba Ryokan in Hirosaki, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Hirosaki Castle and United Church of Christ in Japan Hirosaki Church. Free self parking is available onsite.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location, views, and people are so lovely. Hosts are very comfortable with English but were also patient with our terrible Japanese, and helpful with suggestions about the town. The building is charming and meandering, and it hasn't been aggressively updated into soul-less, sterile modernity. So it was a delight to find (during a heat wave) that the quite-new air conditioning unit was very effective. It's a twenty minute walk to the castle, a five minute cab drive from the train station, and just a few minutes away from restaurants and cafes. We'd love to go back someday.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very big room. Superior service
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The owner was super friendly and knowledgeable about the town and in general; guests would not need any tourist information centre. The ryokan itself gives an impression of an authentic Japanese inn, with vintage look and feel, and just enough modern commodities. The location is perfect, 5 min walking from the castle
Cons: There are two shared bathrooms, one of which has only one shower. So a person using it normally locks the door, and it may take time to wait for your turn. The second room has three showers, so if you don’t mind company, there’s no need to wait. Fair enough, men and women switch the bathrooms daily (not exactly sure, we stayed only two nights)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. This place is fantastic. Location is next to Hirosaki Park/Castle, good food close by etc...the service, the caring details by the owner, the story from its history. This is such a especial experience and place...I cannot recommend it enough. Thank you SO MUCH for having us. Would come back to Japan just to visit this place again.
Cons: Nothing. Literally our 1 nigt stay felt way too short.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very warm welcome. Friendly owners. Nice garden.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: First of all, the hotel was perfect: great location and breakfast, big and beautiful room and an Onsen. But what make the experience really amazing was the hospitality of Ishiba san himself (the owner). We took me to ride around town to show me the best local places, help me a lot with my trip to the mountains (drew me a map with suggested routes!) and even offered me to join for a night out with him and his friends. Thank you so much!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel owner has a very good English. It is a good experience to chat with him.
Cons: the space of toilet in 2nd floor is small. Tall people are advised to go to 1st floor
10,0 Excellent
Pros: One of the best place we've ever stayed. Beautiful ryokan with deep history, great hospitality and warm heart. Will never forget this place and the hosts.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The head of the ryokan was really nice. He was very helpful in giving information about the area and he supplied a space for everyobe to watch the festival. He also gave me a ride to the station after I checked out. The place was clean and I had a big room.
Cons: The bathroom was a little outdated. Because it is an older place the walls are a little thin.
Dormy Inn Hirosaki Natural Hot Spring - Hirosaki - Building

8,5 Excellent (1 872 reviews)
R1 173+

Featured amenities include a computer station, dry cleaning/laundry services, and luggage storage. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were very happy with our stay at Dormy Inn Hirosaki. We LOVED the onsen, free noodles at night, & overall accommodations. The staff was also very friendly. Its conveniently located and has a Family Mart right across the street, making it super easy to grab a cheap snack or meal. We will definitely be back!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Free shuttle to/from JR station, Onsen, Room Size
Cons: Nothing
6,7 Good
Pros: free evening ramen tastes really good. I want more
Cons: no shuttle service available when I came. not enough information especially English to tell how to travel to the hotel after the train arrives
10,0 Excellent
Pros: - excellent breakfast, - frendly staff - pleasant onsens on the roof of the hotel - incredible
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and free shuttle pickup to and from JR station.
Cons: Suggest hotel send a message or email to travellers where to wait the shuttle bus at JR station. I was lucky the tourist info staff told me the exact waiting point and time. Otherwise I would have to spend money to take taxi to hotel on arrival.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: 1. Free pick-up and drop-off service. You get to be picked up by a taxi (wait next to the apple post box outside of JR Hirosaki station, if the driver is not there, wait a bit more, he'll eventually appear) from the station from afternoon to late night and you can be dropped off at the station in the morning. I used the service three times and I was the only passenger, such a luxury. Please note that the pick-up service from JR station to the hotel is supported by a local taxi company, so you'll be picked up by a car, not a shuttle bus. 2. Breakfast was good, but for me one meal was just perfect. There are many old cafes and bakeries in the city for you to explore if that's your cup of tea. Hirosaki is famous for its apples, and is has many gorgeous apple pies to offer. 3. The late night free ramen service is great. 4. The bath is what makes dormy inn stands out! Very nicely decorated, although I don't think the women's bath has an equally good view of Iwaki san (at least I didn't really see it). Most of the time I was there all by myself, feels like a private bath. 5. The free laundry service, which can be perfectly combined with another hot bath session. 6. Free bike rental for the first two hours, although I didn't have a chance to use this service. Alternatively the city offers bike rental for 500yen/day (not sure how many hours), and it's definitely the best way to explore the city on a sunny day. 7. Free umbrella rental (very useful when there is pouring rain). 8. Location location location. Two convenience stores nearby, close to the park and many major sites, restaurant area, old cafes, and a 100yen bus bus stop. 9. Staff was friendly and helpful. I got a room as requested. 10. The elevator is smartly designed. The room as well, taking off the bathtub but keeping the shower gives guests good flexibility. The room is bigger than other hotel rooms of the same price range.
Cons: 1. When I arrived there were 4-5 small spiders on the ceiling, occupying different corners, and some mosquitoes. I'm not sure if it's because it was raining outside (because I didn't see most of them the following days), but it didn't give me a good first impression and I think the room could've been cleaner. 2. Wifi in the room was very weak and unstable. I had to give up uploading photos and wait until I checked into another hotel (where the wifi was fast and it was such a big contrast.)
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Everything mentioned above
Cons: The bed and pillows were HARD.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good value hotel. The Ofuro (public bath) is very nice and big. The room is clean and modern. Central location and the staff are also very nice.
Cons: You have to pay for a car parking lot.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: This hotel has a wonderful public bath on the top floor with laundry facilities, so you can wash your clothes and yourself at the same time. I like that they have free ramen included as part of the package and breakfast available for those who want it. The room design showed staff who are thoughtful to travellers.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The onsen n soba
Cons: Tiny room and expensive

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The beds are very comfy!!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, efficient with good basic amenities provided. My room size was small but perfect for solo traveller. Breakfast good, mostly Japanese style of course, with common international touches; plenty to eat. Location was great for me and my plans. I could walk to the gardens and the castle and I could walk to the railway station and bus station. If you aren't a walker, there are local buses. Plus, bicycle hire is common. Some great food options close by.
Cons: Nothing for me to dislike. It was true to label.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and with parking 100m away. The room was big and the beds were comfortable. The staff were super friendly and breakfast was great. Definitely will stay there again. Our room had a great view of Mt Iwaki.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: - right in the middle of Hirosaki City (about 15 minutes walk from Hirosaki Castle, about 20 minutes walk from JR Hirosaki Station, 5 minutes walk from Chuo-Hirosaki Station) - very near to bus stop (Naka-Dotemachi, a lot of bus will make stop at here, very convenient) - nice breakfast (variety of choices from Japanese style to western, taste good) - very friendly staffs. - value for money (among the cheapest hotel you can get in the area). - near to convenient shop (2 minutes walk) and department store (1 minutes walk).
Cons: most of the things are fine for me. if you want to be picky, the TV channel is limited (only 7 channels in total, but who would stay in the room watching TV?)
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good facilities in the room and very comfortable and clean. Staff are helpful and the breakfast is very good. Very good value for money and I'd be happy to stay there again. The location is quite handy to walk to the castle park and there's also a nice walk beside a stream nearby. Easy distance to shopping too.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel in a central position, just 15 minutes on foot from JR Hirosaki station, or 5 minutes by car, and a 10 minutes stroll from the castle. Convenient restaurant at 1F where I had a good and abundant dinner in a family atmosphere. Kind staff, comfortable bed and room.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Location is about halfway between the station and Hirosaki castle/park. On a street with lots of shopping. The hotel is a bit old bit has been kept well. I was here during Golden Week so ended up in a smoking room despite not being a smoker, and it was not bothersome.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast offered a huge spread, delivered by smiling helpful staff. Location of the hotel was excellent.
Cons: Coffee provided at breakfast was not that special.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: We were expecting much when we arrived, but this hotel by far exceeded our expectations! The room was extremely spacious and comfortable with everything you may need (bathrobes, pajamas, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc). The pillows and mattresses were also perfect for a good sleep (I'm sensitive to such things). Besides, there were a fridge and tea-making facilities in the room. The staff seemed not very fluent in English, but very eager to help. We really enjoyed our stay.
7,9 Good
Pros: Room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast has wide range of choices to choose from, and is perfect to enjoy at the start of the day.
Cons: Nothing in particular

Cons: Nothing
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and location.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Pros: Excellent location right across the JR Station. When we got back early from the Goshogawara festival, we saw the end portion of the Hirosaki festival between the JR station and the hotel! Staff was very nice. English spoken. Room was a decent size. Clean Good /quiet AC Good Japanese and Western buffet breakfast! Coin operated washer/dryer available If you use the long stairways to go down n up under the street to get to the hotel, there are elevators available. Helpful if u have luggage or bad knees.
Cons: Cons: Bed was hard but I managed to sleep for 7 hours!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location and Japanese buffet breakfast.
8,8 Excellent
Cons: I wish they could upgrade the hair-dryer in the room. I have to go up to 14/F to dry my hair as the hair-dryer there was much better.
7,1 Good
Pros: good location in front of train station and nice staff
7,9 Good
Pros: I guess the location is good as it is right in front of the JR station, but at night time there are very limited options for food, and I would have preferred staying at a more city center location.
Cons: Not many restaurants at night around the hotel. I wanted a massage but hotel staff did not know how to help me with that - that is usually a standard in Japan.
7,9 Good
Pros: Close proximity to JR station. Onsen on 14th floor is very welcoming.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location of hotel was very convenient. Staff were accomodating to our requests
Cons: -
7,5 Good
Pros: breakfast spread!!!!
Cons: you need to queue together with those checking in just to get your key card

Hirosaki Ekimae Hotel - Hirosaki
7
7,7 Good (75 reviews)
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The owner? or hotel receptionist was very friendly. Tried to talk to me despite my lousy japanese. They also gave me hirosaki's yummy apples every morning.
Cons: It is near the station but far away from city centre. Had to take a bus in to visit the sights but there is a 100 yen loop bus that makes things easier.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. One of the friendliest staffs I've encountered in Japan. The facility is also very conveniently located close to the JR train station and the hotel was very comfortable and clean.
Cons: Nothing.
7,1 Good
Pros: The room was bigger than most single rooms. It was winter (Feb) when I visited and the owner heated up the room before I was there, and even on the 2nd night when I returned from sightseeing.
Cons: Breakfast is not included. Previous reviews have mentioned a good breakfast which was one of the reasons I chose the place. If I knew breakfast will not be included, I would have chosen a better, newer hotel nearby with breakfast instead of this hotel. It was kind of expensive (¥5,000) if breakfast isn't provided.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff their treated me like family despite the language barrier.
7,9 Good
Pros: Great location, near the JR station.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: I was feeling very unwell when we arrived, and the staff were very helpful to try and get my room a bit early so I could lay down. The room was clean and the facilities were very nice. The location is perfect for seeing Hirosaki; in between the station and castle, a short walk to everything.
7,5 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good and from the top floor had a great view of the city.
Cons: The carpet was filthy and the rooms very dated and wallpaper very worn and marked. No laundry. The hotel was probably very luxurious when first opened, but the interior we saw needs to be updated and carpet replaced and wallpaper redone.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The room was comfortable and equipped with everything I needed. The daily cleaning and attention to the room was excellent
Cons: As a non Japanese speaker, I would have appreciated having someone who could speak and communicate with some English
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff made my experience very wonderful...everyone i encounterd was super nice!!
Cons: I liked it all
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Quaint, simple and comfortable
6,3 Good
Pros: The location is good, in between the station and hirosaki park.
Cons: The hotel is old and the facilities reflect that, there is a characteristic "old" smell even though in general is clean
4,6 Okay
Pros: - Breakfast was quite good with a selection of Western and Japanese hot/cold dishes.
Cons: - Staff speak very little English - Hotel showing its age - room furniture very old and worn out and carpet falling apart and feels dirty - For the amount I paid it is overprized even if I was staying during sakura full bloom
3,3 Mediocre
Cons: The room is way too small for couples. Bathroom also too small and can Not move around.
5,8 Okay
Cons: Slow wifi Uncomfortable bed Needs renovation Poor, unattractive breakfast
7,9 Good
Pros: The staff couldn't have been friendlier.
Cons: The bathroom couldn't have been tinier. But it did have everything necessary.

6,3 Good
Pros: Convenience to access JR station
Cons: None
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel is very quiet, you don't hear the street at all. I liked having a convenience store across the road, too. The hotel is within walking distance of a department store that has restaurants as well.
Cons: There is no option for printing, either at reception or anywhere else in the hotel (e.g. Internet corner with printer). So if you are on business and need print-outs, you might have to go elsewhere. You will need about 15 minutes to the train station if you have luggage; you can't take a bus - there is a bus station near the hotel, but the bus intervals are abominably long.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Couldn't rate this property due to water disruption. We were relocated to their sister property at Hotel Hyper Hills Hirosaki. Thanks to Booking.com team for the last minute arrangement. Hyper Hills was slightly further to JR Hirosaki station compared to Hirosaki Prince. Hyper Hills was within 15mins walk from JR Hirosaki station.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: My room was small but it had everything, it was clean, friendly staff, good breakfast and convenient location, so all good!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Quite close to the station and 30min walking to the castle and neputa place. There is a drugstore and a konbini close by. A lot of amenities available !
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were exceptionally accommodating. I was stressed on arrive being to preoccupied by an important phone call I needed to make and they deal with me in a very understanding and polite manner. The breakfast exceeded expectations.
Cons: The sound off the air conditioning unit.
3,8 Mediocre
Cons: There was a cockroach in the room.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The price. Got my room extra cheap also the hotel is close to the station and therefore to the Hirosaki loop bus
Cons: The staff was not welcoming at all. I do not mean that they did not speak english but i did not even deserve that they smile back at me - quite strange in Japan... anyway the place was cheap and did the job.
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: Not very much. The place was quite bad. The bath was nice and deep and the breakfast substantial
Cons: The room stank and was very hot on arrival. The a/c only heated. The beds were hard as planks of wood and pillows just as bad. The room backed onto a railway cargo yard which was incredibly noisy and we needed the window open due to being so hot, smelly and stuffy.
6,3 Good
Pros: the location is perfect, it is very close to the Hirosaki Station, about 3 minutes by walking. The staff dont know speak English, almost all of them were friendly and helpful. They gave me a juice and an apple pie due to the sakura festival in town, which was a good surprise! The room is a good size.
Cons: The Hotel is very old, and have a lot of problems even before you enter in the lobby. The signalization name of the hotel in the top of the building is dirty and falling down. When you look at the building it seems that a fire has occurred and they are clearing the place yet. The furniture is quite old, with spare parts and very hot. I did not have access to an air conditioning control, for example. The bathroom was smelling of pee, and had a leak when it used the flush. There was only one plug available in the room, and in it all the appliances were connected (fridge, TV, lamp). Breakfast has a very tight schedule, from 6:30 am to 9:00 am, and your admission is only accepted until 8:45 am. Also, the employee who was at breakfast warns you that you have to leave at 9:00 a.m. Still in the salon of the breakfast, there is a space covered by cloths, which I believe to be some leak. I used the lobby bathroom and half of the sinks are not working and only one bathrooms of two works. Honestly, I felt at the Hotel Impossible, and I was worried about the safety of the place. Despite the sympathy of the staff, I believe that the hotel needs urgent renovations, because there are leaks everywhere and this can compromise the structures. If it was not crowded in the city with a good location, I would have chosen somewhere else. and I found it expensive by the state of the hotel. I stayed in hostels much more comfortable, clean, safe and with great location, for much less.
5,4 Okay
Pros: The bed was fine and over all it was okay.
Cons: The bathroom smelled bad and the toilet flush leaked. A part of the window sealing was missing, so it was a little cold.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Have mega store in front of this hotel
