Peonia at Home - Mulhouse - Building

9,2 Excellent (480 reviews)
R2 209+
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Home from home
10,0 Excellent
Pros: the amazing mansion and the perfect organized room
7,9 Good
Pros: The place is very nice, rooms are spacious and have pretty much what you need. The living rooms as well are a good place to stay and relax. Breakfast was nicely prepared.
Cons: First would be the check-in and check-out policy. To check in after 17 and check out before 11 is not nice! I,be been traveling all night and I got to the propriety at 10 o’clock. I didn’t checked the check in hours because it didn’t cross my mind that could be that late. I couldn’t get in, I was only allowed to park my car inside the facility. I was expecting more hospitality considering that the accommodation was in a home context. I had to rest in the car and ask like a Holmes to be allowed to use the restroom. Later on at 15 o clock I had a business meeting and I needed to change my clothes. I had to ask for that also to get in the restroom to change. When you have a guest in such a context I don’t think is too much to offer a bottle of water. The policy doesn’t allow the free cancelation so I was stuck in the car for several hours because otherwise I would have canceled the stay there and go for a hotel. The house is on a road that is going up the hill and does not have any place to park. The house is not very well signaled and it’s a little confusing. Everything is closed, they could leave at least the gate open to have access with the car there. For me it was a little bit chilly in the room and I had no opportunity to heat the room. For the breakfast I would personally prefer to have what is available at hand. There were things like ham and cheese brought to the table only on request. Not everyone eat jam and cache at breakfast, so it would be good to have the opportunity to pick what you want or at least to know what is available. There are small things that can make this experience more pleasant.
7,9 Good
Pros: Beautiful house, very clean throughout and comfortable bedding. Comfortable robe and bottle of water provided. Charming and helpful lady owning the place + adooorable little dog.
Cons: Unfortunately although planned for, no WiFi yet for the rooms located on second floor (N.B. family suites on first floor are covered nevertheless). No kettle available for hot drinks in the afternoon/evening. Quality of toiletries could be better. My room was too small to really feel at ease.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing and the hosts made themselves available.
Cons: No heater so the room was a bit cold.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful house with a lot of art. Quiet room comfortable bed. Fantastic breakfast and very nice staff.
7,9 Good
Pros: The place was a bit of a walk from the station with luggage but not too bad. It’s a true b&b and you will get up and have a French breakfast with other guests. Great for a true French experience. The host didn’t speak English overly well so hope to speak a bit of French. Overall a good experience.

A true labor of love of the owners. Many thanks!

Pros: The owner went beyond expectations in helping repair a minor mishap to our rental vehicle saving us a bundle. We suggested coffee making facilities in the room and he was thankful for the suggestion and will be available soon. Morning coffee was freshly made in the breakfast room and on our second day he was ready to deliver to our room once he was aware we were awake. For dinner he suggested excellent restaurants in the area

10,0 Excellent
Pros: A very good restaurant, very nice staff and a clean and comfortable room. The property is located inside a forest so it’s very quiet , but a bit dark to drive too at night.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff to help you with everything! Rooms are basic but everything you need. Bed was great.. Some things look old but that is the romantic about this hotel.. it is a hotel with a long history. Like this very much.. we are a young couple with age of 32. Can recommend this stay for everyone.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good hotel with parking that was close although this was limited by space. Friendly staff who were very helpful. Evening meals were very good and well presented. Breakfast was excellent. We will stay here again.
Cons: Restaurant closes on Mondays, which means you cannot get anything to eat or drink after breakfast.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good restaurant
Cons: No wash basin in WC room (WC is separate form bathroom). Poor wifi
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property with gardens to walk in. Our room was update, large and clean. The owners were super friendly and accommodating!! Sightseeing in the area/Colmar/Ribeauville, go vineyard hopping, drive the wine route and then stay here for an amazing dinner and breakfast experience!! The owner/Chef prepares delicious, high quality meals with wine paring. We enjoyed our short stay very much!
Cons: It is in a very small village, like I said, explore first then come to eat and relax!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: For us the location was perfect as we wanted to go walking in the Vosges. There was a footpath just near to the hotel that we used to walk to the Grand Ballon. The location is also good for visiting the surrounding traditional Alsace villages such s Eguisheim and Turckheim and many vineyards. We also visited Hartmanswillerkopf. The hotel team were extremely welcoming, very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is excellent and we would have no hesitation recommending it. The breakfast was also very good.
Cons: Nothing. Was all good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I like the location and hiking tracks around it
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room, great for family of four. With full bed plus sofa bed. Enough space to put and open suitcases. Good value for money. Friendly staff.
Cons: Could be cleaner. (Dust in corners, mould between bathroom tiles) they were working on street outside. Not fault of hotel, but cannot really enjoy little town with all streets with roadworks. Still, price was adequate to circumstances.

Pros: The room was spacey and comfortable. Reception staff was helpful. If business takes you to Mulhouse, I can suggest this hotel.
Cons: Location is not very central. Breakfast is basic.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant refurbished room. Super TDJ €20 dinner-very unexpected. Also very good breakfast indeed
Cons: 'Tired' reception and public areas. Not a good first impression. The locality is not the best.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was a great size and very nicely decorated, the bathroom was huge! Very good value for money, we didn't have the breakfast as it was an additional charge. Nice lounge / bar area downstairs so groups could easily meet up there. Very welcoming to our little dog and close to the town centre. Great, secure parking area which is perfect if you're travelling with a packed car.
Cons: Everything was just as we hoped.
8,0 Excellent
Cons: The coffee
7,5 Good
Pros: The room, the breakfast
Cons: The Gap in the kin size bed... it wasn’t king size mattress, but two mattresses close to one another. No place in the parking lot, I had to park in front of the hotel. When I arrive for breakfast, busy staff and no real direction where to order. I sat down at a dirty table and accommodated with it. Not a biggie but staff seemed overwhelmed.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: room and bathroom, kindnedd of personnel serving at diner
Cons: personnel at the desk on monday afternoon; not very nice

9,0 Excellent
Pros: The perfect Place. Wonderful location. Peacefull excellent stay
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, secluded location, great breakfast and spa services, comfy bar. Special touches so that where ever you are in the hotel, something interesting or beautiful meets your eyes
6,3 Good
Pros: The dinner was (unexpectedly) good, although probably the only four star hotel in the world limiting you to a preset menu "because it's Saturday".
Cons: Outside jacuzzi very dirty. Terrible sewage smell coming through the shower drain (to the extent that we had to block the drain with a wet towel). Taste is a matter of debate (I would rank the architecture & decor on the kitschier side of kitsch) but should a hotel really be a chapel to the glory of its founder with self - aggrandizing photos everywhere? Price to money - the rack rate of 300EUR per night (ex breakfast) is wildly irrealistic in relation with location, amenities and services. Tired, frayed carpet in the reception area helps resetting expectations as soon as you arrive...
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Cozy, good food, big inside and outside pool with warm water, flexible staff ( they let me go into the spa area already at 7.15 although it usually opens only at 8.30)
Cons: Small jacuzzi, expensive breakfast buffet (25€), weak WIFI
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great environment. Good value. Nice restaurant & food. Discovered a great wine (Pinot Gris- Cuvee Elyse). Nice Staff. Good place to relax
Cons: Some Spa Facilities were not working.
6,3 Good
Pros: Location and spa
Cons: Hotel getting old, restaurant too expensive for what is served.2 saunas not working so spa down to the pool
7,9 Good
Pros: The location is great and the room was very comfortable. The facilities are clean and nice however most of the massage jets and fontains were not working at all or partially operational. The sauna is a low temperature one which is not convincing and the hammam also was not fully powerful. That was quite deceiving.
Cons: The operation of the spa facilities should be improved to reach their full potential and the sauna should be modified to provide real sauna features. It is a pity no using the beautiful facilities at their full potential by the fault of lousy or defectuous equipment.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location is fantastic in the middle of the forest. We loved our room and the pool was great. Good general facilities. Bed was very comfortable with good quality towels and linen - helped to sleep well. We would return to this hotel if we were sure that the service (staff quality) had improved.
Cons: 1. Check-in process was very problematic. The room was not available (on arrival) at 3.15pm. Normal check-in time was 3.30pm. Reception explained that the cleaning lady had arrived too late. We were told that there would be an additional wait of at least 1hour. However, we weren’t automatically offered the spa or bar facilities. We complained and only then were we offered the chance to use the spa. The receptionist with dark short hair seemed to be very careless and spoke very limited English. 2. There was a private party on the night of arrival. All restaurants were closed and nobody had informed us during the check-in process that we should eat in the Brasserie before 7pm or visit the nearby restaurant. Therefore, we stayed without food during the first night of our stay. 3. The access cards didn’t work on the 2nd and 3rd night of our stay. We had to return to reception to have the cards reset. This happened to both cards on consecutive nights. The cards were not placed next to mobile phones and kept in separate pockets. Therefore, this was not the cause of the problem. 4. We were given only 2 towels for the spa during the room cleaning on the Friday morning. However each person requires 2 towels for each sun-bed due to the towels being short. 5. Overall, the staff spoke very little English except one young man on reception late on Saturday night. Staff didn’t seem to be very competent. The Gardener was very friendly and seemed to be doing his best multi-tasking between different jobs around the hotel. The staff seem to be working in an unco-ordinated fashion. 6. No wine stocked in the mini-bar. Odd given that this region is so famous for its wine production. 2 small bottles of wine (for an extra charge) would be beneficial. CONCLUSION Overall, it’s a real shame (about the above points) because it’s a really nice hotel that needs to be run in a more orderly fashion. The management need to retrain some of the staff.
5,4 Okay
Pros: Beautiful surroundings. Very nice big balcony with nice view into the woods. Very friendly staff at lunch.
Cons: Absolutely ridiculous that paying guests in a 4-star hotel can not have dinner, because the restaurant is fully booked. Not even willingness to let us wait at the bar for a free table. Just f**k off and drive 10 km to the nearest village. In addition very noisy rooms; we could follow every word of the next door conversation. Luckily there were no children in that room. My wife's massage was not excellent and the masseuse didn't speak one word english (or didn't want to, like many french).

Cons: None

Pros: Lovely hotel in a tranquil setting. The lake is more an 'étang' but nevertheless a beautiful setting with shared facilities with the neighbouring hotel, so in early evening we could use their sunny terrace and bar. Our room was splendid, we were celebrating an anniversary so selected a superior room with balcony and lake view, it was worth it! We arrived by bike, so a bonus was a garage for storing the bikes.
Cons: The restaurant was fully booked, which was disappointing. However, the pizzeria opposite was recommended by the hotel and actually was very good - best pizzas we've had for ages.

Cons: Hospitality and bar staff were very rude and uncooperative. Reception desk staff were very helpful and pleasant. Meal in restaurant second rate and not what we ordered - potato and veg was fries and lettuce.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The room and facilities were fine
Cons: Reception on arrival was excellent and the staff we met until leaving were all pleasant. However, on leaving we went to checkout and the young lady receptionist was on the telephone. She totally ignored us for some minutes while she completed her conversation even though at one stage it was clear that she was waiting for a response from whoever she was talking to. When she had finished the call she then turned to me to see what I wanted without any apology for the delay. This I felt was totally rude and unprofessional. All that was required was a smile and "I'll be with you in a minute" followed by "I'm sorry for the delay."which is exactly what happened at another hotel on our journey.

Pros: A very good restaurant, very nice staff and a clean and comfortable room. The property is located inside a forest so it’s very quiet , but a bit dark to drive too at night.

Pros: Good restaurant
Cons: No wash basin in WC room (WC is separate form bathroom). Poor wifi

Pros: The staff was wonderfully helpful and accomodating -- providing a wonderful stay. They went out of their way to assist with tricky travel logistics and really made our trip special. The room was fantastic! What a welcome sight as we biked up to the property, not knowing what to expect. The place was beautiful and magical, filled with gorgeous works of art. A true labor of love of the owners. Many thanks!
