Great place to stay
Average customer service
Swimming pool on the rooftop is really nice. Staff is very friendly. Location is good, albeit a good half an hour walk to the old centre of Gijon (which we liked though).
The price-quality was not in balance. We upgraded to a junior suite, which had more space but a smaller bed and a shower in the room. Awkward bathroom. On the whole the bulding was old, with old carpet in the hallways, and also the rooms were outdated. Furthermore you pay some 20 euro's per night for the car parking, which is too much, and almost 40 euro for breakfast (for 2 persons). The breakfast room is not nice and breakfast is oke, but not super.
We really enjoyed our stay. The staff is excellent. Perfect location.
+Excellent reception staff members who were always helpful and happy to assist with restaurant bookings and taxis required etc. +Rooms cleaned to a very high standard. +Breakfast excellent and staff wonderful at breakfast service. +Pool and area surrounding pool very clean and comfortable.
On the roof a bar has been created, however, it does not open until 8pm, therefore, there is no availability to be served any drinks hot/cold or snacks during the day. This was reported to the Hotel Manager and reception staff and the solution that they came up with 8 days into our stay was a notice at the pool next to a phone which displayed a very limited selection of snacks only available between 1.30-3.30 on the sun deck with a service charge the same as room service +€3 for any order under €9 We were surprised that the roof terrace was also closed on Wednesday night and we were unable to go for a drink. When we went to use the cocktail bar/ restaurant in the evening we were told that we could not have a cocktail until after 8pm?! On our first day we ventured to the basement following the lift signage to the restaurant- cafeteria where we were told rather sharply that ‘this is a restaurant” and we could order snacks on the roof terrace but it did not open until 8pm so having travelled from the UK we were unable to get anything to eat/drink within the hotel with **** until 8pm at night?! Please note room service does not start until 8pm - is this 4 star service ****?! Leaking shower at base reported and we were given an extra floor mat?! ( Room 213) Nothing done for 10 days. The gym is basic however we were happy to make use of it despite the dampness and smell of damp clearly caused by a leak where mould has grown and spread. Gym equipment is rusty. This needs attended to. Most concerning is that there is a lock on the fire door out of the gymnasium-this is against the law. To give some understanding as to why the services of a 4 star hotel were sought out and important for us: My mother and father are 72 years old and my mother is disabled following a spinal injury. My father is undergoing chemotherapy for advanced stage 4 Prostate Cancer. As a result he is currently unable to fly.
The NH Gijón hotel is located close to the stunning San Lorenzo beach and only 15-minutes away from the historic center on foot. The glass-fronted modern building offers amazing sea views and guests can easily reach the Gijón Convention, Fair Center, as well as the Molinón stadium which are all within a 10-minute walk of the hotel. There are 64 rooms at NH Gijón and many offer lovely views over the Biscay Bay. Each room has a modern and elegant design and is equipped with free Wi-Fi. For lunch, we recommend our Gastro bar which serves tapas and light meals with your favorite drinks. The restaurant, Amares, serves contemporary Spanish cuisine. Guests can enjoy their meals in the light-filled dining room or at the casual and sophisticated Gastro bar. For relaxed conversation or a quick meeting, you can also head to the hotel’s lobby bar. On warm sunny days, enjoy a dip in the pool located on the rooftop terrace. Guests can unwind in the wellness area with its sauna and Turkish bath. The hotel also has four meeting rooms for up to 400 people to accommodate small and large functions.
