The car had issues from the start and my husband had to take it to a local oil change place that cost us $90. We tried to extend our trip but it was not allowed and returned the car 6 hours late due to weather and traffic and we were charged $200 instead of the quoted daily rate of $89 because it was a Saturday and the location closed at 12 noon. The customer 800 service was not helpful but the location was understanding I will think twice before returning from a local place and use airport locations that allow more flexibility and have more vehicles to manage mechanical issues with vehicles.

Pros:

Staff was nice & pleasant to work with. The office was clean & safe.

Cons:

The rental could been cleaned better there were tons on bugs still stuck to the windshield guessing from the previous renters.

Cons:

I had rented the vehicle three weeks before I got there and it was confirmed on rental cars.com but when I got to hertz they told me they had no vehicle for me nor did they even care so I called rental cars.com and they told me since I didn’t pay for it upfront there’s really no reason they felt responsible that I should have one. That’s how Hertz and rental cars.com treated me.

Cons:

First, it was almost impossible to even find the Avis office, which we eventually learned was located inside a CLOSED shopping mall. After 2 phone calls we were directed to some side door that was barely marked, that let us into a storage room, and then behind the Avis counter. Thank God I did not need the car to get to the airport at this time, I would have been a nervous wreck. Then the vehicles windows were absolutely filthy both inside and out. I had to stop at a service station down the road to clean them myself. When I dropped the car off at your O'Hare facility, I was frantically waved into a line of cars, barely got my suitcase out of the trunk when a receipt was thrust into my face and the young man was off to the cars behind me that were filling in fast. I had to run after him to ask him where I was supposed to go from there because I found myself literally surrounded by vehicles in every direction and no signs of an office. This young man clearly needed a lot more help if he was going to be able to provide even common courtesy let alone assistance. Seriously, the entire experience was very unorganized, unprofessional, and unpleasant. But thank you for asking and allowing me to share my experience with you.

Renting a car though them is a joke! There are so many things that need to be paid that isn't told to you when you reserve a vehicle. We wasted so much time going there, after getting lost trying to find the place, because that is unclear, as well, and we weren't even able to rent the car anyways. Very disappointed and will never do that again. Also tell people that they need to pass a credit check before they waste their time! Some people live paycheck to paycheck, you know!
