Your choice of car rental in Jaipur depends on what you intend to do and where you're staying. If you expect to spend most of your time in the downtown area or near its main tourist attractions like the Walled City, a compact city car rental in Jaipur is a viable choice. If this is too small to fit everyone, get the smallest sedan in which you'll be comfortable. Anything too bulky can be extremely awkward to manoeuvre through the congestion. If you're using the city as a base to go sightseeing, choose an MPV, which will be able to deal with the erratic road surfaces.

The speed limit inside the municipal boundaries of Jaipur is 50 km/h (about 30 mph). On inter-city roads and access-controlled arterial highways, you can travel up to 70 km/h (just about 43 mph). The speed limit on other highways is 100 km/h (about 62 mph). Make sure to keep a keen eye out for signposted limits in case you're not sure what class of road you're on. Be very wary of speed cameras too, as the consequences of speeding can be severe. Exceeding the 100 km/h limit can land you in jail in certain areas of Rajasthan state, if you're taking road trips in the region around Jaipur.

Parking is plentiful in Jaipur, as long as you don't mind using one of the many Pay & Park areas. They usually charge an hourly rate of a few hundred rupees (a few pounds), although you can also book a day's parking. Street parking is available, but there are only a few designated spaces per outlet in the main shopping areas, generally with a 2h time limit. The city also has an innovative sensor-based smart parking system, whereby you can book parking spaces in the Kishanpole, Aatish and Johri markets using the Jaipur Smart City Limited app. Once again, this is usually limited to 2h.
