KAYAK’s top tips for hiring a car in Honesdale

  • From beautiful hillside scenes to fine architecture and art, there are plenty of things to do when you visit Honesdale, PA. But you need a convenient means of transport to move across the city and nearby locations. While the city is known as the “Birthplace of the American Railroad,” trains operate on fixed schedules and routes. Buses also have specific routes and do not prevail on reliability. To this end, driving is the best way to discover many places during your visit. In that case, Honesdale car rentals will help you meet your logistic needs. You can visit Wayne County Historical Society Museum, Tanner Falls, and other places.
  • Many airports serve flights to Honesdale, including Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP), Stewart International Airport (SWF), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), about 38, 79, and 106 miles from the city center. At AVP, the car rental counters are on the first floor in the baggage claim area. The car rental desks at SWF are on the main level, across from the baggage claim area and security screening. Travelers arriving at EWR can find car rental counters at the P3 Station, accessible by riding a free Air Train. The popular companies are Easirent, Hertz, Avis, and Budget.
  • Generally, driving in Honesdale is a safe and enjoyable experience, thanks to the well-established roads and less impatient drivers. However, driving your car rentals in Honesdale has its fair share of challenges, requiring you to always be attentive. The city has several roundabouts. Approach intersections and roundabouts cautiously. While jaywalking is uncommon in the city, drive slowly when approaching thickly inhabited areas to keep pedestrians safe. The city implements a zero-tolerance policy on drinking and driving. Be sure to remain sober throughout your trips.
  • Like other cities in Pennsylvania, Honesdale experiences heavy traffic during peak travel hours—the dense traffic results from several residents accessing the city with private vehicles. Again, motorbikes are permitted to use the same lanes as vehicles, leading to motorists and motorbikes jockeying for position. Usually, the city experiences traffic congestion from 6:30 am to 9:30 am and 4 pm to 7 pm on weekdays. Traffic on Saturdays and Sundays flows smoothly. Avoid driving during rush hours.

They have accepted a booking without having a car available. That has completely ruined my plans and cost me a non-refundable hotel booking. Thank you so much!
