Pros: Very helpful and nice staff!

Pros: The set up of the place was great - intimate, comfortable and friendly without being overbearing. The personal touch was lovely. The food was amazing and the way they served breakfast and dinner was different and enjoyable. Food was fresh and delicious! Our room was lovely and very well decorated. Loved the set up with the car park and the fob to get in and out. It was like having your own home but with boutique hotel service. Loved the grounds, the veg patch and the spots around the grounds to sit and relax. Loved the massage hut! Loved the flavoured water and daily cake too! The small touches at this hotel made the difference.

Cons: You can’t get anywhere without a car unfortunately and from what we could see there were only two useable bikes which were always gone.. Wasn’t keen on the curvy sun beds and the flat ones had no cushions, so only the cabanas could be used and these had limitations wrt sunbathing due to the roof and there aren’t enough for all guests. Our room was lovely but had no ventilation in the bathroom, which was only separated from our room by a sliding door. We missed out on the wine tasting as it was after we left which was a shame as we thought it was a great idea

Pros: Beautiful property with wonderfully decorated rooms. The property itself is so relaxing and it truly feels like a small piece of paradise. The owners are lovely and always available to help or answer questions. The food was delicious with meals cooked with fresh local ingredients and the breakfast was absolutely amazing. I would 100% recommend this hotel.

Pros: Very attentive staff, couldn't have been more helpful. The owners went out of their way to ensure our stay was perfect. The food was superb, both breakfast and dinner. The chef needs complementing for the quality, freshness and diversity of his cooking.

Cons: Nothing I can really comment on that can be changed. Our only slight niggle is the location and that you need a car to get to other amenities.

Pros: We stayed there for the last night of our holiday in the treehouse. It was amazing and well worth splashing out on. The staff were incredibly helpful and even put out a really early breakfast before our flight home.

Pros: A very clean, cosy guest house. Spotless rooms. Very good breakfast with cereal, fruit juice, toast, croissants, and rolls , ham and cheese /plus fruit. Only one English channel on tv, news only. A very quiet location one km from the town. Supermarkets not far. Have stayed four times. No noise whatsoever from other rooms/guests on all stays.

Cons: Bed a little firm for me, but personal preference.

Would recommend to anyone visiting the region, whether passing through as Spain just 15mins away, Great base to explore the local culture and countryside. I really enjoyed the my stay here and will be returning in late summer/autumn, For me the hotel was just away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist centre yet on the main routes to explore the area,

Cons: These are not dislikes, more opportunities for improvement 1/ When its busy the car park can be quite tight, but the host was away there to assist 2/ An extra plug in the room would have been useful as I had a lot of electrical equipment and batteries that needed charging 3/ WiFi was really useful

Pros: Close to Monte Gordo and to Vila Real De Santo António. Clean and large room, with air conditioner. Parking place. Friendly staff. Good cost-benefit ratio. Breakfast was included (it was simple but quite good).

Cons: It's not in the center of the village nor in front to the beach (but it's quite close, though - 5 minutes by car).

Pros: This was 1 of the loveliest places I have ever stayed. Jose & Theresa were so friendly& helpful . THe guesthouse itself was beautifully laid out & the rooms were spotless. Sunloungers in front garden, little terrace with tables & chairs, a truly lovely breakfast with the most scrumptious fresh rolls & coffee. Nothing was too much even finding out train timetables for us & finding alternative accomm for us when we made an impromptu decision to stay an extra 2 days. Cant praise this place enough.

Cons: It's on a roundabout with 5 roads leading off it but honestly ( & I'm a really bad sleeper) it doesn't cause a problem as the double-glazing is very effective & ear plugs guarantee a good sleep. The + side of the location is that it's a 3 min. walk to the train station fro where you can get a ticket to Faro for 4 euro pp!!! Taxi works out at approx 55-60euro.

Felt extremely safe and there was a car park for guests. Cute walking area and harbor a 5 minute drive away. Breakfast was included. Really enjoyed the local fruit!

Pros: Very modern decoration and the cleaning of the facilities and bedrooms are just superb!! Wi-Fi is excellent and TV with a lots of channels. Breakfast with good variety and quality. The hotel owners are super friendly and always ready to help. 5 Stars. Definitely I’ll come back.

Large and airy dining area with coffee available all day. Fruit left in the room on three occasions at no extra cost. Very Friendly and helpful Staff. A very engaging and Bubbly Owner that takes the time to chat and ensure that your stay is enjoyable. Plenty of secure Parking Space. Very well maintained and inviting building.

Pros: Welcomed and checked in by owner. Reception like all common areas was immaculate. Our room, a studio on the ground floor with private terrace with access to pool was more than we expected. Outdoor pool, changing rooms, lockers and toilet. Outdoor sun loungers, comfy furniture, bbq with tables and chairs and quiet area of Cabanas. Breakfast was excellent. Fresh fruits from the garden, homemade cake, cereals, ham, cheese, scrambled egg, boiled eggs, sausage and bacon and more. The owners have used quality fittings everywhere. The small personal touches make this place a cut above. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back. If you are not a good walker you will need a car. Bikes are for hire at reception. Honestly did not want to leave.

Pros: The location in Vila Real is ideal for the ferry to Ayamonte, the town square and the old town. The room was what I expected - compact, clean, easily accessed. There is only 1 free parking space at the hotel. Other than that it costs 80c per hour from 9.00 to 22.00. Or you use the free car park by the ferry. That is only a few hundred metres away.

Cons: This was not really a big problem, but I had known more about the terrace and mini kitchen on the top floor, I would have brought something for breakfast.

Pros: From the check-in to the check-out all the staff was amazing, the property is very, very clean and the customer service on point. Friendly and very accommodating. The area around the property is really nice, everyone is very friendly. They have this amazing and cozy roof top perfect for chilling and even having some meals. I Highly recommend booking Villa Marquez.

Pros: Staff very friendly and efficient. Excellent choice of fresh fruit at breakfast. Two very comfortable pillows provided, usually have to ask for second pillow. Free parking and central position of the hotel.

Cons: No blinds or net curtains at patio style balcony windows, as rooms are overlooked it was neccessary to close blackout curtains for decency. Shampoo and shower gel were in very small sachets, they were replaced each day but one was not enough for my shower.

Pros: For the price I was amazed at the facilities the B/fast and the staff. The location was also good as only 200 meters from the beach and even closer to the bars and restaurants.

Cons: I was not impressed by Monte Gordo itself as it has no character and little to see or do except beach, swimming pools and poor restaurants.

Pros: The location was really central but quiet, which was great at night as there was very little noise. The hotel was within close proximity to lots of restaurants, and you were on the gorgeous and massive beach in less than ten minutes. The room was bigger than I expected, with really good storage, and the bed was really comfortable. There was also a fridge which was pleasantly unexpected. We were on the sixth floor and had a large balcony with a table and chairs. There was a good choice of food at breakfast, with fresh fruit, scrambled and fried eggs, mushrooms, beans etc. The pool also had the sun until it went down, so you could catch the last of the rays if you'd been out all day.

Cons: The gym could have had more equipment and it would have been nice to have had a kettle in the room.

Pros: Great hotel, in a quiet area; good bed. Very friendly staff. The breakfast was good but boring - same things every day. It would have been more interesting to have less daily options with a different variety of foods ever day. Loved the fruits, and dairy free options. I am particularly grateful for the wheat free, gluten free breads - thank you so much.

Cons: I booked this hotel as it had a spa pool as I wanted to relax in the indoor spa that evening but when I arrived I was told that to use the spa for only 2 hours there was an extra cost of €15 per person. If I knew this before I would have booked a different hotel.

Pros: Awesome facilities, great stuff and good breakfast. The beach is less than five minutes away. Same distance to supermarkets if you need water/sunscreen,... Nice town with little restaurants.

Pros: The hotel's architecture is charming and is well located. The hotel staff are extremely kind. Breakfast is good but not exceptional (coffee quality could be improved and juices are of poor quality with lots of sugar. The hotel is a little run down and maintenance could be improved. The Montegordo beach is very nice and once we walk a few hundred meters East we can find lots of space on the beach. Overall I recommend and would be inclined to repeat my experience.

Pros: The food was excellent - we had half-board and it surpassed our expectations there. Everything is fresh, top quality and kept hot, which is great. The hotel location is excellent, right by the beach and the pool and gym facilities are very good, however, the hotel is dated and needs renovation. The room itself was comfortable, but it needs a serious makeover, along with the rest of the hotel. Overall though, we had a good time.

Cons: There are two things that would have improved our holiday: 1. Desserts were limited with no cheese & crackers 2. No late check out available. One receptionist also said no room to use to shower and change before our evening flight. Luckily, another receptionist intervened and found us a room.

Pros: Lovely location on the beach. Reception staff were helpful. We enjoyed our breakfast in the light-filled breakfast room.

Cons: The sea view room we booked did not meet our expectations. The room is squeezed into a corner and therefore qualifies for a partial sea view only. This also comes with less light in the room and more or less no sun on the balcony in April. This fact is known to the hotel and there are at least four apartments having the same issue. And there was an ongoing building maintenance (drilling, painting and a lift going up and down in front of the balcony/bedroom) which limited the use of the balcony for 2 full days.

Pros: Very comfortable hotel for a Christmas stay, great side view over the beach, woods and lighthouse. Didn't try the restaurant as there are plenty of places to eat nearby and to buy food to prepare at the hotel. Kitchen very well equipped. A kettle would be good for British guests! We hired bikes nearby for just 5 euros a day and cycled to Santo Antonio along the bike track and to the beach through the pine woods.

Cons: The games room has been closed which is a shame, as it is something good for children and teens to do when it gets dark at 5.30pm.

Cons: I would like to know in advance that the Health Club and the Inside Pool are out of service since February. Those are services we appreciate and I really don’t like to pay a full stay for a partial offer.

Pros: I requested the best room they have with it being a special time for me and my wife. When we got there they spreaded the bed with felt love hearts and two swans made out of the towels and put petals around the bathroom sink. It was very romantic! The room had a very homely feel with warm lighting, and a huge built in wardrobe with sliding mirrors. The shower in our room was amazing, the pressure and power was fantastic and easy to adjust; probably the best I've ever used. The grouting and tiles were very clean. The pillows were very comfortable and we never found we had to adjust the room temperature. And for those who love to chill at the beach, it was pretty much at the doorstep.

Cons: The breakfast was a huge disappointment, there was not much variety. Also breakfast started later than other places I've stayed at. So when we got there and was told breakfast is from 8am, I told the receptionist that we have an early flight when we go back, we were reassured that a packed breakfast will be arranged. On the morning of leaving, the receptionist had forgotten (it was the same person who checked us in). He went and brought ham with cheese sandwiches, apple and juice. I told him we can't have ham sandwiches (as we're Muslim) so he said just take it out. I had to reiterate that we cannot eat this could he make us a fresh sandwich without ham. He brought back cheese sandwiches, when we opened the bag the cling film reeked of ham, so we didn't bother eating it. It was unfortunate that tea wasn't provided in the rooms or for our packed breakfast as my wife loves tea in the morning. As amazing as the pressure in our shower was, there was a nasty mark in the bath tub, which I'm guessing possibly looked like a burn mark which left a crusty brown mark round it. That was quite off putting. The sink was very close to the toilet, it wasn't an issue for us as we're slim, however that may not be the case for everyone else. Last of all the toilet seat had a small paint chip which kept making us think there's faeces on it.

Pros: We had stayed at this hotel before, but on returning the food was much improved. The view from the balcony was exceptional, even on a very hot day, there was always a cooling breeze on the balcony.

Family-friendly resort town. Large indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Good value for money considering booking was last minute.

Cons: The check in clerk could have smiled and been a bit more positive. It felt like he didn't want to be there. We also asked for a menu to be sent to our room and it was brought up only 3 hours later.

Cons: The food was inedible, reception staff miserable and rude, attitude to complaint was disgraceful, no regard for residents queries. The hotel is shabby and in dire need of a refurb, everything is chargeable except the indoor outdoor pool, the gym was very very dated, no air con, equipment in poor state. This is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel!!!

Cons: Hotel is huge so it’s not good for people (like me) who prefer more cameral places (there were hundreds of people on the breakfast!); additional payment for jacuzzi near the indoor swimming pool that we weren’t informed about (only 4 euros but makes bad impression)

Cons: I thought the hotel was in the beach. The photos are very misleading. Not enough lifts and had to walk up and down to the eighth floor each time as the lifts were always full and took ages. Not good when you have a bad knee Meal time were like feeding time at the zoo, everyone in a rush and stood around waiting for tables so we ate out a lot.

Pros: We have stayed at this hotel before and this time found that it appears to be under new ownership, It was not as upmarket as before.

Cons: There was building work going on in the room above our room which I reported but it continued the next day, I asked for a reduced rate and they saidthat could only be done through you .

Cons: Very bad odour from drains in my bathroom which was at times unbearable and sometimes I could get this smell in the corridor directly outside my room. I complained twice to no avail. No supervision at the pool. Difficult to enjoy swim in pool due to unsupervised behaviour by other users. Music also too loud at pool which made it difficult if you wanted to relax and read or talk. Breakfast choice not very varied. No hotel directory in room telling you how to use its facilities including phones/tv/AC in room. No "Do not disturb" signs in room.

Pros: Good location. Friendly and helpful staff. Good housekeeping services. Modern entrance, reception area and bar. Nice large balcony and lovely seaview.

Cons: Rooms are old fashioned and need to be modernised. Hotel does not deserve 4* rating, more like a good 3*.Poor choice at breakfast. Hotel is not located on the beach as per description and photo on website but across the road. The pool area is not attractive and not enough umbrellas to go round, some of them broken. We spent our time on the beach which is fabulous.

Pros: Location of hotel is excellent. Since we only stayed for one night and arrived fairly late, the hotel's facilities were not used.

Cons: We had two junior suites booked and were upgraded to full one bedroom suites. We were very disappointed with the cleanliness in the rooms. Also, some of the furniture was badly stained and no-one felt like sitting on anything. The carpeting in the hallway on the 3rd floor was also very badly stained. The hotel seems to cater to many families which would explain the stains and heavier wear.

Cons: The air conditioning broke down in our room & couldn’t be fixed & when I asked when it would be fixed, I was told ‘I don’t know’. We stayed for a week & it still wasn’t fixed when we left. We were given a large portable air conditioning unit which was setup & plugged into the living room area, so that area was kept cool but the unit couldn’t be moved into the bedroom area & as it was so warm, temp 30 degrees, we had to sleep in the living room area on the couch & on spare mattress bed under the couch. I requested another air conditioning unit but was told that there wasn’t another one available. I requested another room & was told the hotel was booked out despite there being rooms available to book on www.booking.com.

Cons: The hotel is quite old and need a refurbishment urgently. Breakfast was awful, There was no fruit, no yogurt, no pastries, in fact it was the worst in all the week travelling around Portugal (each night in a different hotel). .. and to make thing worse the waiter wasn't nice at all... I wouldn't come back to be honest

Pros: Overall a satisfactory three night stay.However,in the room we stayed ( and adjoining rooms we later learned ) there was the most irritating noise during early mornings and early evenings.Reception staff immediately identified it as a noisy extractor fan in the main kitchen.So it is obvious they know of this problem which should , surely, be rectified. We stayed in room 220. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was adequate and the small pool was ideal.

Pros: Always made very welcome by the very pleasant staff. The Hotel is very clean and comfortable in a traditional vein and is also ideally situated close to the beach and other amenities of Monte Gordo. The breakfast Buffet was very good and offered a wide selection for English and Continental styles.

Cons: The very attractive bar could have been an ideal venue for enjoying an evening drink but for me the drink prices were too high

Pros: The Casablanca Inn has lovely staff who were on hand to help with anything. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Showers were powerful and water was very warm.

Cons: Shower wasn’t fixed and was only a hose feature which could be put up to a fixed height. There was a flimsy shower curtain which was very annoying when trying to shower. TV was very very basic and if staying for a longer time or with children, this would have been really inadequate.

Cons: This has been by far the worse hotel I’ve been. It’s extremely dirty. The floors are washed with dirty water leaving black hair everywhere. As soon as I went to the bathroom I noticed black hair on wall tiles all the way to the ceiling. The rooms have a very very strong smell due to bad canalizations. Cleaning ladies said it was the bad drains in the kitchen and bathroom. The rooms are very noisy... with all windows closed we can hear every car driving, laud musing, motorcycles, people talking, etc... Worse of all are the dogs barking all day and night. This hotel allows dogs. Pillows provided were for babies. On our 2nd day we left after seeing big cockroaches in the kitchen and room.

Pros: Very large apartment with lot of space for two families. Has a kitchen with good equipment, but we didn't use. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool. Good location walking distance to the beach.

Pros: It was good enough for what we paid. We stayed in a studio on the ground floor which had a huge private terrace so that was nice. It was a bit loud since we had the elevator just in front of our door but other than that we had a good time. The only issue was parking since it was crowded everywhere we went.

Pros: Regular customers, it's our favorite hotel in Monte Gordo and has the massive plus of allowing pets.

Cons: My 6 year old Grandson was injured on a Ladder whilst exiting the pool on his birthday (4-6-19), he had to have 9 stitches in his foot. Aparthotel admitted liability but then said that they would only cover medical expenses, which were already covered by his EHIC card. The hotel had no first aid or first aider on site. The holiday was ruined from 4-6-19 to 8-6-19 because we had to transport my grandson in a wheelchair, instead of being on the beach and in the sea each day.

Pros: The location is fabulous. The beach directly in front of the hotel is special. Lovely soft white sand. Surrounded by shops and restaurants.

Cons: We booked this hotel as we had stayed there last year. Unfortunately this time we were given room 710 which is towards the back of the hotel with only a sea view if looking sideways on the balcony. Most of the rooms have a gorgeous view of the beach and sea. Only one small element worked properly, the larger element only got warm. We did complain but were told no other rooms available. Wifi only in the small reception area which was freuently crowded

Pros: The front desk staff was excellent. When a friends purse was forgotten at a local business, the staff made sure that it was given to me to return to her. Huge, as it contained all her valuables. The housekeeping staff did the best they could in cleaning our bathroom each day. The apartment needs to be completely gutted and redone. It was a bit like staying in a cheap dormitory, a very cheap dormitory. No comfortable chair, furniture has not be upgraded in years. I would not go back there, unfortunately.

Cons: There is only WiFi in reception. There are around 10 seats always occupied. We had problems with where to have our bicycles. First we put them in the garage, then they said it wasn't safe. So we took them up to our balcony. Then it was not allowed to have them there because it was not safe????

Pros: This hotel was clean and is within easy walking distance to the city's attractions, restaurants, shopping, the river, and the ferry to Ayamonte, Spain. The room rate was very good. I had a room on the top floor with nice views over the city from the two windows, and a bonus was the sliding glass door that opened onto a large terrace.

Cons: The room was bit smaller than I expected it would be, but I am not complaining about that since overall this hotel was a good value.
