Leon is an excellent host, welcoming and friendly. The location of this hotel is right in the historic centre, so close to all the attractions. Good value.
I had to wait 30mins in the dark under the rain for the hotel boss to arrive for my check in! I saw in the reservation that check in is until 10pm, because I arrived late to Bayonne, I asked for a check in between 10pm and 11pm. I did my booking while having diner. SO I had to hurry in order to get there asap and not let any staff wait for me to do the check in. I arrived at the hotel door at 9:50pm and had to wait 30mins outside no one to talk to. I called all numbers available to reach the hotel but no one was answering on the landline and the mobile was off. After 30min I got someone on the phone after reaching booking.com by phone I guess they tried to contact the hotel owner...he knew I was waiting and rather than apologizing for not being there for my check in he dared to ask me if I was going to have the expensive bfast he is selling and ripping off foreign guests the day after in the morning...I wouldn't have expected that at all! He explained on the phone how to get to the room. I got my key and went back to my car to get something i forgot, when i came back he was in the hotel bar having a good time with friends and said to me that I mentioned an arrival time between 10pm and 11pm so therefore he planned to come at 11pm! what????? What kind of hospitality is this...I was traveling for the whole day and the whole week, I was just looking to crash on a bed and get ready for the day after, I ended up making phone calls to Singapore (booking customer service) and justifying who I am and where I am staying, my reservation number...instead of arriving and being welcomed and checked in smoothly, I was left in the dark under the rain waiting for a hotel owner that doesn't care about guests arriving! It is a shame to do this...and think that it is normal. I do not recommend this place at all just because of the clear lack of hotel management and guest service that the owner had demonstrated.
What a cool little hotel! Clean, comfortable and very conveniently located. The staff were incredibly helpful, with great advice on town sights- not just the ones on the tourist map, good places to eat (trust me, in Bayonne there is no shortage of good food!), and advice on the specialties of the local chocolate shops. Mmm chocolate shops... The hotel is located on the street WITH the chocolate shops!!! I had the twin room on the top (5th) floor. It was quiet and spacious, with quirky little decorating touches (loved the Banksy, no, it wasn't the real one). There was very little vehicular noise, as that part of town is pedestrian traffic only. Fortunately I didn't have a heavy bag, as there is no elevator- the building is historic, and elevators weren't invented back then! But, hey, you have to work off the chocolate somehow... and the jambon, and the Basque tarts, and... you get the picture! Would I stay here again? You bet!
Comfortable bed and good shower, large room. Supermarket opposite for buying food
Having to walk 10mins carrying cases from nearest car park
very friendly staff, good breakfast, excellent location. The rooms are very simple but nicely decorated and clean.
Old bulding, you can hear everything that's going on in the other rooms. Narrow stairs, no lift. No hair dryer. One tiny window.
