The staff at Schiphol were awful! They were misinformed about what cards they can accept and when this was pointed out to them, they became rude and aggressive. When we asked for the name of the person serving us, he said he was not obliged.

Car was not available although I got a booking CONFIRMATION from Sixt/Kayak. When at the counter, the employee told me it is not a confirmation but merely and "agreement" that the customer can go to the counter. Car proposed was over 2x inital cost. I have NEVER ever had to pay extra when upgraded because the original class was not available and I travel a lot. Insurance was insane at 45 Euro/day. I ended booking with Avis, they had a car and honoured their quote. Not the first time I am having issue with Sixt and will try to stay away from them.

The overall experience was good but I wanted to pick up the car couple of hours early but the agent at the terminal didn’t allow me to rent it before even when they had so many cars available. I would have appreciated a little flexibility with the rental time as what I have seen with other rental companies in the USA.

I would like to see larger cars with more room for luggage. That’s the only concern. But, one of your professional employees made a pertinent point with respect to the small roads in Europe in general and also about the potential taxes on the vehicles that are imposed by various governments in the EU. There is a €1200 deposit needed for your rental. Why so much I have no idea. And they don't tell you when they return the deposit. I'm down €1200 until who knows when. Not fun if you're dependent on that for your vacation.

Before leaving home I got an email to check in for the car rental. After checking in I was to proceed to the rental and did not need to go to the desk at the airport. So I walked to the parking pick up desk. When I got there the guy told me I had to go to the desk at the airport to check in. But, because it was not very busy there the guy did fill it all in for me, so that was very nice. He did not know about the email that I got the day before about checking in from home. I thought that was strange…

Pros:

The pick up agent is slow and unfair. She charged us for 2nd driver without our consent. Also, it took her over one hour to complete the process yet our pick up time started as soon as we talked.

Cons:

The pick up time should be from the time we got the key, not from the time we were at the signing desk.

I didn’t get either of the cars expected but it turned out the Nissan Qashqai was perfect. I loved the gps and the 360 camera. The room was also good for 5 people with modest luggage.

The car that I got was smaller than what I had booked. I got a Renault Captur (mid-size) whereas I had booked a Toyota Camry (full-size). As a result it didn't fit all our luggage. Avis said the problem was with the booking agency which is repeatedly letting customers book larger vehicles that Avis doesn't even have while booking a smaller category with Avis.

The pick up was kinda chaotic, the vehicle was awesome, the return was very chaotic, vehicles were left on a single lane with nobody around to collect the vehicle or anything. We walked all the way back to the counter when we picked up the vehicle, while we were standing there one older gentleman was cleaning the floor and a younger gentleman was trying to get things going and told us he would be right with us. It took him about 10 minutes to get things going and we handed him the paper work and the keys and asked us if there was anyone down stairs, I told him no except a whole row of vehicles. He handed us the paper work back and kept the key and said you're all good. When we arrived in Dublin I've got an email stating that I left the car and didn't handed over the keys and they couldn't move the vehicle. I emailed them back that I got there at 6:30am nobody was down stairs so I walked upstairs and handed over the key. By the time I got back to Los Angeles I received another email stating nobody had the key and could describe the person I handed the key over to, so far I haven't heard back from them, but to that was a pretty strange experience to say at least.
