Cons:

When I made the reservation it said protection was included, but at the pick up time, they charge me an additional cost for insurance at almost the price of my three day rental. It was 70 dlls more than the 28 for the rental price. Please notify this before when you announce a price.

Our pick up time was 11am and after having trouble crossing the border in a timely manner we got to rental agency at 12:30. They said we were too late to get a car at the agreed upon price and that it would be another $160 to get a car, after prepaying $128. My guess is they pull this switch all the time if you’re not a fluent Spanish speaker.

The dates in for reservation is system of Europcar were for one year later (October 2022) than booked with Kayak ((October 2021). Europcar would not honor quoted price, requesting 400% higher rate. I refused the rental.

My reservation with Hertz called for the car to be picked up at San Diego Airport on Saturday at 3PM. When I got to the hertz pick up location I was told that someone had changed my pick up location to another Hertz office on the US side of Tijuana, Mexico, some 30 to 40 minutes away from the airport. Furthermore, there was no shuttle service to the alternate location. This was unsatisfactory to me and did not meet my requirements. As a result, I was forced to rent with some "no name" agency that normally services high risk customers. The rental from them was significantly more expensive, the car, although it ran well, had over 220,000 miles, had numerous scratches, a cracked windshield, worn upholstery and the cruise control didn't work. Furthermore, one of the tires kept leaking air and I had to put air in it on 3 different occasions. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Hertz or KAYAK nor will I use them in the future.

Robert at the pick up office was not at all helpful. Apparently this rental was for San Diego airport in Tijuana even though I entered San Diego Airport and my flight information. Robert said oh did you use Kayak? This happens often and was going to charge 2X what my original rental was saying the taxes were higher. Almost $600 for 5 day rental. I told him I was a Hertz gold member he didn't even try to look it up. This was 8pm at night stranded at the airport with luggage etc. I declined and went next door to Enterprise and payed a bit more than my original reservation from Hertz. Disgusting customer service and trying to overcharge whe someone was in a difficult situation. I went.

I arrived at the airport...the flight was 2 hours late, hertz was supposed to be open 24 hours--they weren't. I had to pay for an Uber from the airport to the hotel, back to the airport in the morning (same cost as 2 days of my rental) then they only had subcompact cars when I had reserved a full sized car....so I cancelled. worst car rental experience of my life. (it really sucked to be at an airport at 130am in the morning and not have your transportation waiting for you)

You need to change your survey form - these guys DID NOT HAVE OUR CAR - AND I PRE-PAID. My wife and I were left stranded, with all of our luggage, after a lengthy journey, at the time we said we would be there....standing on the curb at Tijuana Airport...where the Green Motion clowns TOLD us to stand, and to call them so they could pick us up to bring us to our car. They gave us BS stories about staff not showing up, were going to call us back (but didn't), told us to get on some bus at the airport... We had two Mexicans trying to help us with the jerkwads at Green Motion. The whole experience seemed like a scam operation. They claimed to have not charged us, but I haven't yet sorted the bills for my recent vacation, which went fine with the flights, cruise, whale watch, hotels, etc. Everything on the 25 day trip was fine, except for the goons at Green Motion. If it turns out I have been charged, I will be in touch for a refund.

There was no staff at airport, and I couldn’t reach an agent due to site phone number not working. After 45 minutes of trying to get help I walked to car lot to pick up vehicle. Was charged outrageous amount for insurance.

Mexico has a long way to go in meeting US standards, even for US brands. No matter what you call to confirm, the extras accumulate. We reserved and PAID for a larger, newer Jeep SUV. We got a smaller, dirty, dented, old Nissan SUV. Despite calling ahead and confirming the details, they told us that despite my PLATINUM Mexican insurance, I would have to give a $15,000 USD deposit if I didn't purchase their third party insurance, billed separately, for 100% of the cost of my rental - doubling my cost. Additionally, they wanted a $1000 USD deposit - which i talked them down to $350 - also unplanned. And on return, they found about 10 hairs in the car where a dog sat on my lap for a few minutes outside my house. That was a $50 charge. Keep in mind that in Mexico, a premium car wash at a modern facility is $3-5 tops. I asked them for a brush and they refused. We then argued about the mileage, which was unlimited - he slipped a gas charge on that i had removed - since i returned the tank at 100% - filled just outside the location. Then he tried to charge for every scratch he found - which was all found on the pre rental check. It was a 30 minute return of arguing and gauging - very unpleasant and of course, you're in a rush to catch your flight.. Then he tried to tell me the charges were in USD and gave me an absurd exchange rate - 15.5 instead of 17. The rate is always in pesos - with your bank doing the conversion - so he would have reconverted back to pesos anyway. Very, very disappointing.

There is a $100usd non-negitiable “basic insurance” charge that I was not told about before renting the vehicle. Instead of $75 for my rental, I had to pay $175. That was rather upsetting.

Pros:

They charged me for a suppose scratch smaller than a the size of nail that I did not made. Also rented me a car with tires in very poor condition and I had to replace the car as the wires from the tires could already be seen from its wear.

Pros:

The car was clean and it got us from Tijuana to Loreto safely.

Cons:

This was my first time using Thrifty to rent a car. They wouldn't be my first choice in the future, though the workers at the store were nice the car wasn't great. It didn't do well with any road that wasn't in perfect condition so the car ride was bumpy and loud. In addition the car didn't do well on gas. The bathroom facilities at Thrifty were disgusting as the toilet didn't work (left over bathroom waste was left in the toilet) and there was no running water or hand sanitizer so I'm not sure how coworkers washed their hands.
