There was renovation work going on. And it was very very noisy. Water was regularly interrupted both hot and cold. The bed was very small. Stayed with my wife and kid and we could hardly fit in the bed. The breakfast was not famous either. We stayed 2 adults in a room, one got free daily breakfast and the other had to pay 80¥ for breakfast.
The location is reasonable, 10 minutes walk to the metro station (Shanxi Nan Lu).
There were too many hidden extra charges. Breakfast is ONLY included for 1 person per room, regardless if the room is a double with 2 people in it. So for a family of 4 in 2 rooms we had to pay for 2 breakfasts each day. 1 breakfast is 80RMB which is about £10 and expensive for what it is. We booked the hotel because it had a pool, What is completely unclear is there is an ADDITIONAL CHARGE TO USE THE POOL. This charge is 100RMB per person. For a family of 4 this is approximately £47, an outrageous charge for swimming at the best of times, let alone in a small pool. Avoid the bar attached to the hotel, again outrageously expensive.
i booked this hotel for my father as i live few blocks away, the management was terrible , first i had to negotiate 15 minutes just to send food to my father room without them to register me ( as i rent an appartement myself i am already register and if they do i will have to waist one hour to go register again at the local police station ) . It wasn't a communication issue as i am fluent in chinese . Secondly when we book from booking.com they was no notice that the hotel is under renovation , it was so noisy during the day and my father needed to rest due to is age . When we ask a compensation or a discount they just told us NO . i have been staying in china for almost 10 years , been to so many differents province for my business i never experienced something like this . Its the worst place to stay , overprice for the quality and definitely not a nice service . management was showing a lot of attitude , i am very pissed at them . To finish the breakfast was very disgusting . come on guy you are a 4 star hotel in shanghai you must do better than this . i wont come back and won't recommend it to anyone.
Absolute best location in Shanghai in the hood. The local team are world class and share this with every guest every time. It’s nice to feel truly Shanghainese at this hotel each and every time I stay. Even for just one moment or two as a foreigner.
The pool and gym costed extra to use per-day. Buffet breakfast wasn't good - as a western vegetarian I found the variety very limited. Door man was outright rude. We landed in China at 7.30am and went to our hotel so they could hold our bags until check-in -- this was fine as we went for a walk. Came back to our hotel at 12 with a couple hours left until check-in. Obviously by then we were exhausted after 15 hours of travel and the morning spent walking. We sat on the lobby couch and tried to nod off but were rudely awoken by the door man yelling at us saying "this is not a sleeping couch, this is a lobby couch". Very rude considering we couldn't use the pool due to having to pay more money and had to wait for check-in with nowhere else to go. Nobody spoke good English - everything had to be communicated through translator apps. China doesn't have "normal" Wi-Fi apparently they don't use things like Google or Facebook in China which made it very difficult to go on things like Trip Adviser to see where activities or places to eat are (I'm vegetarian so was more difficult).
