I am fed up with the negative reviews that the whingers put on line about this hotel. My stay in January was warm, comfortable and good value. Staff were kind and friendly. New carpets! Britannia Hotels may be a bit ‘faded glory’ - but who cares?? The architecture is great, the history interesting - and the location perfect.
Great
Pros. Did not have breakfast at the hotel so can't comment on that. Would not stay in a room with no windows again, too claustrophobic. Finding your way around the hotel was difficult and the signs were difficult. One of the lifts was out of order when we stayed.
Pros. The location
Cons. The hotel, the general standard, the extreme shortage of staff leading to unbelievable queues. We were due to stay two nights but left after one preferring to loose our money than stay any longer.
Pros. clean and comfy very central overlooks the beach great history
Pros. Fantastic building but rather down at heel. Loved the room and the views but needed a bit of tlc!
Cons. It's the only way to keep a building like that paying for itself but it's definitely faded grandure. Love it - it's crazy but in parts a bit itchy!
Pros. Excellent location, decent rooms, vastly improved from ten years previous when I tried it. Reasonable entertainment, great happy hour.
Cons. The fact I was charged twice for my room. Once by the booking agent Kayak/Hotels.com, and then again at the reception even though I said it had already been paid.
