The room wasn’t clean at all! the bathroom very old and the shower so dirty. The only good thing is the location, very central!

Good value of money. Bed is good. There are heating facilities under the floor that warm the room and dry the towels in toilet. We live in a house with two rooms, one for us one for another unknown travelers. Very spacious room with corridor connecting the toilet. Common kitchen is nice, with Double-Hob Free-Standing Induction Cooker and free tea bags. The staff is very responsive. I request a hair dryer at late night and they reply the SMS promptly and send me next morning.

No Hotel's name on the street and made me quite hard to locate the hotel. Tips: There is a gate with blue board, located at left to and just next to the souvenir shop. You need to call the staff to open the gate and follow others go in. Besides, the main entrance of door lock of the house is sometimes difficult to be opened, got stuck in a morning and cannot go out,

Difficult to find, no instructions on getting to reception area. Not signposted well and through locked gates.

Fantastic location next door to a metro station, 100 metres from Nevsky Prospekt and ten minutes walk from the Hermitage. Pleasant guys who worked on reception, especially the young lady who booked a taxi for the airport and came the next morning to make sure we got it – she was fantastic!

Accessing Residencia Morskaya • There is no attempt to make it easy to find – access from the street is through a locked iron grill which has no sign to say that the ‘hotel’ lies behind it. But it’s a well-used gate and it didn’t take long for somebody to come through it. Inside is a courtyard. We entered a business doorway that was prominently signed and showed them our booking (in Russian). They were bemused but worked out where the ‘hotel’ had to be. It was two doors away – an iron door. On close inspection we saw an A4-sized, faded, laminated sign with the word ‘РЕЗИДЕНЦИЯ’. Fortunately knowing the Cyrillic alphabet we could transliterate it as ‘RESIDENCIYA’. A group of Spanish speaking people came along and we entered with them. The blurb on states that the “entire unit is located on ground floor” – not true. You enter a stair well that stinks of cat pee and go up twelve chipped and worn steps; not disabled access. (The cat pee wasn’t imagined – the courtyard has at least twelve feral cats and on one day when the iron door had been propped open, a cat shot out when we approached.) We followed the Spanish guys into the ‘hotel’, into a long, narrow corridor which had a different, unpleasant odour. • There are three rooms in this area which have been subdivided from an original large room using stud and plasterboard. There is no sound proofing and every bodily function of the neighbours can’t be ignored. When they shut their door your door rattles; it is that flimsy. On Tripadvisor the owners state, “The thickness of walls is also regulated by the laws during the construction or major reconstructions of the buildings. Unfortunately we're not liable to change that.” This is again untrue. The thin walls are not part of the structure – they are just cheap and shoddy partitions. • On arrival we were requested to pay 700 roubles each for registration. We paid and didn’t get a receipt (our mistake for being trusting).
