You should hire a car in Rhodes, as it gives you an opportunity to explore every corner of the island at your own pace, rather than following the schedule of public transport. For example, if you were staying in Rhodes City, then you could drive to Prasonisi Lighthouse on the south part of the island in about 1h 30min. To opt for a bus would take longer to reach this tourist hotspot, whilst a taxi there and back would be quite expensive.

When you are driving in Rhodes, it might take you a bit of time to acclimatise, as it is different to driving in the United Kingdom. Firstly, you will notice that you are driving on the right side of the road rather than the left, which may take some getting used to, and you will notice that the wheel of the vehicle is on the opposite side as well. Those younger than a certain age, often 23, will have to pay a surcharge in addition to the standard hire price. There will also be less selection available to younger drivers, with many companies reserving cars with more powerful engines for more experienced drivers.
