Great hotel, excellent location, staff and food. Rooms small but adequate. Prices for all extras (drinks, minibar, etc, etc) fairly ridiculous, given how much you're paying for the hotel in the first place.
Costs. €6 (now the same as £6) for a small packet of crisps from the minibar. €28 for two drinks by the pool.
The hotel's location and public areas are fantastic. The pool area was so peaceful and always had enough chairs for the guests, there was proximity to a beautiful beach and lovely gardens to have drinks in before dinner. It really is a beautiful hotel and in such a lovely, remote part of Mallorca (though only an hour's drive from Palma).
I would say that the rooms need a refresh - they are pretty old fashioned and basic. The lighting in the hallways and bathroom is really bad/ unflattering! It doesn't matter too much because you wouldn't want to be spending too much time in your room, but it's worth flagging that the rooms might need a bit of an upgrade in the future to be aligned with the rest of the hotel.
Breakfast was excellent, although the choices available were a little overwhelming. The evening buffet, whilst good, was very expensive at 55 euros regardless of how much or how little you ate. Staff were excellent, particularly when I was taken ill on the day of our departure. Particular thanks to Carmen for keeping our room so clean and tidy. Because of the cost of a doctor (200 euros) we were unable to leave the tips we had intended.
Our only disappointment was the beach which was further away than we anticipated; public and therefore packed; sunbeds were 60 euros a day.
They are gradually improving the public areas but think the bar area should be next. The hotel has a lot of history and an old fashioned charm but this area looking tired.
Wonderful gardens and hotel design, breakfast and dinner excellent and with amazing views
Very expensive hotel, there was no hotel beach, so we hiked around to find nice beaches at Formentor ( however it was worth to walk for awesome views and calories burning)
The Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel (belonging to the Barceló Hotel Group and formerly the Barceló Formentor) forms part of Mallorca’s history. Located in one of the most important areas of the island, facing the idyllic Formentor Beach, it is the perfect place for a few days of relaxation. A place of retreat for novelists, poets and musicians in search of inspiration for their works of art, this boutique hotel has become closely linked with culture over the years.
