The buildings are beautiful and the surroundings are wonderful. It is quiet. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A beautiful, serene place that is only a two hundred metres from the main road.
Staff are nice. Food at dinner was very nice. Good parking. Great privacy. 3 pools. Good AC. Good hot water
When you arrive, the lobby furniture is covered in a dust sheet. Feels a bit like they are about to move. I must right at the beginning say that we used to go to this property several times in the 90s and loved it. That is probably one reason why we had higher expectations. Then it was a real boutique hotel gem. Maybe it is not all the hotel's fault, but the location as such. Maybe Pattaya can no longer attract boutique hotel guests. It has become so overbuilt with flats and hotels - a very messy town with too much sex and other cheap tourism. So, maybe for that reason, people don't come who want to stay in a boutique hotel and with that the Sugar hut may have gone downhill. Maybe. The gardens have been almost exclusively planted with literally thousands of monkey palms, hence you no longer need a gardener, but at the same time, it looks very poor. Here in the tropics, there are so many beautiful plants and colourful flowers..... Then there is a mosquito problem. My husband came back home with legs and arms covered in itchy bites. I wrapped myself in towels when outside, so I only have a few. I guess, no one sprays against mozzies, who must have a ball amongst all these dense monkey palms. Another thing, that could be changed is the evening music. We had a lovely dinner in a very nice setting, but the loud electric guitar with its old fashioned techno soundtrack drove us round the bend to put it mildly. I remember from years ago that they used to play Thai music (which they do for breakfast now). The setting in the dark with the Thai houses and pool is so Thai - so why not play Thai music. People don't come to Thailand to hear an electric guitar blaring loudly into the night. For that I can go anywhere else in Pattaya walking street..... We would have loved to eat there every night, but the music made us leave. Also, another strange thing is, that they ask you on arrival to pay a deposit in cash, in our case 2500 baht.
