10,0 Excellent
Pros: A bit nondescript from the outside, this place is MUCH more than the chain/franchise name would imply. It's an excellently-run hidden treasure in a delightful area full of mediocre and worse (much worse) accommodations. Unlike the usual "hospitality industry" customer experience, Grass Valley Courtyard Suites actually makes guest comfort the highest priority. The front desk staff are all wonderful, the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, the breakfast is outstanding (see "waffle omelet"), the pool is well-maintained, the location in the heart of Grass Valley is perfect, and the prices are reasonable. (Just don't tell anyone!)
Cons: 1. Wish our stay could have been longer, 2. Wish our next stay (already reserved) were sooner.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The facility and staff were excellent. We stayed in a spacious upstairs unit with a balcony very close to the pet area (nice grassy area). The breakfast was great with omelets made to order, fruit, juice and breads and of course Caroline's coffee. They made special arrangements for our small dog with food/water bowls, poop bags with a holder, some treats, a pet blanket and a list of nearby pet friendly restaurants. Information was included on a pet sitter that could be arranged if needed.
Cons: I wish they had an area to wash the dog with a hand held sprayer.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Included breakfast was very nice. Dining room could use some sound proofing so another groups conversation did not overwhelm the room
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was large & the bed comfortable. Easy to walk to downtown. Staff was extremely cooperative & knowledgeable.
Cons: Everything was great
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was above average. Fresh fruit, danishes, and made to order omelets.
Cons: I felt it was over priced and furnishing were dated. But the room was large and clean. Bed was very comfy too.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, neat, friendly, new feel.
7,0 Good
Pros: Friendly helpful staff
Cons: The breakfast was very very ordinary. Since they indicated it was such a good breakfast I was very disappointed. The hotel bill was $--- plus taxes. That hotel was not worth that price.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and really clean
Cons: The blackout curtains were attached to the wall and didn’t move so only the sheer curtains closed. The light in the adjacent hallway spotlighted the bed and made sleeping impossible. It would have been perfect if the blackout curtains had closed.
10,0 Excellent

Cons: The key card failed most of the time
8,3 Excellent

Pros: It was very clean, easy to find, comfortable and had very accommodating staff.
Cons: Not a thing!

Cons: None
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Was surprised by $200.00 extra charge for who knows what.
7,1 Good
Pros: Breakfast made cost worthwhile
Cons: First cost calculations mistake. Heard later I might have had deductions for military retired, senior or AAA?
7,5 Good
Pros: Comfortable bed, nice chair with bolster, nice & helpful staff, clean.
Cons: Broken toilet seat caused me to fall as I got up. Freezer in mini fridge did not work at all. Ice cream melted quickly.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here years ago and liked the accommodations. We have family who live in the area so we didn't take advantage of the breakfast. The location is convenient for our purposes.
Cons: I thought there would be UBS access so I could charge my phone.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: CLEAN, SIMPLE ROOM
Cons: AIR CONDITIONER KEPT ME UP MOST OF THE NIGHT....
6,3 Good
Pros: Nice location. Breakfast beverages were good.
Cons: Tiny tiny toilet/shower room. Toilet ran after nearly every flush. Bed not that comfortable but ok.
4,0 Okay
Pros: They allowed us late checkout
Cons: We had the misfortune of showing up after a large tour group so we had to wait for the night desk clerk to process them before we could check in. Then the door card reader wouldn't work so the clerk had to let us in with the master key.
1,0 Poor
Pros: The location is decent, but loud and across the street from a large shopping mall with diesel trucks constantly driving by.
Cons: Checked into the room and the door was left wide open. The room was dirty and made all of the bottom of our socks black. I"ve never had that happen before at any hotel. The air conditioning unit smelled like mildew and was very loud. Terrible experience!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really good hot breakfast was provided, good selection of breads, cereals and beverages. Didn't use it this time, but the laundry facilities look adequate. The hotel grounds were nicely landscaped and they provided an area for my dog to walk and relieve himself. Doggie bags were provided and there were plenty of trash bins around.
Cons: My room was a little smaller than anticipated but all the amenities were present. The room was nicely appointed and the bed was comfortable. Really don't have anything to complain about!
7,1 Good
Pros: Location was great for our needs. Breakfast was convenient and satisfying. Room was fairly quiet. Appreciated the amenities. Pool and hot tub were very relaxing. The bed was comfortable.
Cons: Room appeared neat and clean. Things were left in room that should have been removed by cleaning staff. Shower pressure could have been better. We stayed 3 nights and were disappointed with house keeping even after leaving a note.
6,3 Good
Pros: I liked the layout and design that allowed me to sit outside my separate entrance room and enjoy the nice weather.

Cons: We checked in with 3 people but only had two bath towels.
6,7 Good
Pros: Location, pet friendly, clean.
Cons: Construction on room next to mine until 11 p.m. at night -
4,2 Okay
Pros: The air conditioning worked, the bed was firm.
Cons: They used the photo of another local attraction ( Empire Mine) and represented it as the hotel when in fact it was more like an aging motel 6 in need of some serious updates, furnishing looked like garage sale finds that didn’t match.
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: Clean sheets
Cons: Dirty, bathtub too high off floor. Nasty linoleum, broken in spots. Woodwork badly in need of paint, chips in bathtub. No chain on door and lock didn’t work. Hard bed.
7,5 Good
Pros: The man who checked us in on Friday evening was excellent. The man in the morning was poor in helpfulness. He acted like he didn't want to be bothered. Our room was not cleaned on Sat. We didn't use the breakfast on Sat, my husband did use it on Sunday and it was ok. The cleaning ladies were helpful in getting us more sugar for our coffee and returning our key.
Cons: Bathtub could be cleaner. Lighting was poor except in the bathroom area.
4,8 Okay
Pros: They are under new management. No hot water. No heat. Nice staff. Because of all of the trouble, they gave me another free night.

Golden Chain Motel - Grass Valley - Bedroom

6,4 Good (181 reviews)
R1 440+
Overview Reviews
Located in Grass Valley, Golden Chain Motel is within a 15-minute drive of North Star House and Northstar Mine Powerhouse & Pelton Wheel Museum. Free self parking is available onsite.
7,5 Good
Pros: It was quirky and clean, what I expected for a drop-in motel along the side of a busy hiway.
Cons: Some of the in room furniture could use a deep cleaning (table chairs).
7,5 Good
Pros: It’s a funky little motel in the trees. If you’re coming from the South, it’s a very quick turn into the driveway, easier from the North with its own left turn lane. It was convenient enough for us to get to places we wanted to be in Grass Valley and Nevada City.
Cons: Not for you if you’re looking for luxury. The room had a mini fridge and a microwave. It also had rust on the tissue dispenser and a broken towel rack. Still, it was clean, and when we forgot our own pillow in the room, the owner was very gracious about letting my son back in to get it when he came back after we had checked out and had lunch.
1,0 Poor
Pros: Nice location and convenient to get to.
Cons: Non-smoking room smelled of musty smoke, duct tape covering light switch, missing grout in bath tub. Had to cancel and find another hotel at twice the cost at 10:00 at night.
6,3 Good
Pros: Not far from Grass Valley. Mostly clean, though old.
Cons: Place really shows its age! Stains on chairs, lumpy bed, broken fixtures. Hasn't been kept up.
4,2 Okay
Pros: they have a decent size swimming pool and nice bbq area; we didn't use either by nice to have
Cons: they gave us a room with a single bed when we specifically booked a room with 2 beds since we have a 9 years old son. One of us had to sleep on the floor on top of blankets since they didn't have mattresses or roll-away beds. They apologized and the next morning said they might give us "some" discount next time we came. There was only one bath towel for the shower. There is some noise from the hwy. In part due to Labor Weekend, the place was pricey for the two stars accommodations.
7,5 Good
Pros: needed a place for a night in grass valley and it was fine, if I need it again, I will- nice and quiet
3,3 Mediocre
Pros: It was quiet enough to sleep.
Cons: Snail trails on the floor along the refrigerator and “dining” table Mold in the shower Very run down walls, extremely dirty in every room No remote control and I was unable to watch TV When I brought it to staff’s attention, they dismissed it, no apology or concern - just said the bug guy comes once a month... Many signs in lobby saying no visitors after 7, bbq isn’t allowed to be used, etc... Felt very cluttered, uncomfortable overall.
3,8 Mediocre
Cons: Really worn down and dirty.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, nice wooded area. It's an older place well kept up. Rooms have fridges, premium cable tv, wifi.
Cons: The mattresses have seen better days.
3,0 Mediocre
Pros: Location to town.
Cons: Improvement in housekeeping needed. Improvement in in-room repairs needed. Non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke on 2nd move from top floor room for 80 year old. Needed 3rd room move to find a non-smoke room. Many minus compromises for price break
6,7 Good
Pros: I'll let you know when I think of something
Cons: Nothing
6,7 Good
Pros: The property is old but they had maintained room fairly well.
Cons: Plug points are not good. Most of them were not able to accommodate the usual cellphone adapters. They kept falling apart.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Coach N Four Motel in Grass Valley, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center and Center For The Arts. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
6,3 Good
Pros: It was a convenient location to accomplish most of the things that we needed to address while in the area. The room was clean and management was friendly and quick to respond to an issue that we had with the TV. They also had plenty of ice on site.
Cons: We had to leave the air conditioner on almost constantly in order to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room and it was noisy so in order to hear the TV, we had to keep the volume elevated. The TV was old school with no HDMI capabilities or external hookups other than a few RCA jacks. The tub/shower valve was unsecured in the wall and moved every time the shower was used. The refrigerator was very small. There was no screen on the bathroom window so leaving it ajar was an open invitation to critters of all denominations to come pay us a visit and there was no other source of fresh air available. The free Wifi was horrible. Service would constantly come and go while trying to check email, search for information on-line or use our cell phones and there were two days when the frustration was just more than we could tolerate so we stopped trying. We found that to be very inconvenient and extremely annoying.
3,3 Mediocre
Pros: Leaving was the best part! This flea bag of a motel should be knocked down.
Cons: Heavily stained bed. Evidence of dead bed bugs. Stained carpet. Loose toilet seat. Bathroom door and front door out of adjustment, must be slammed to close. TV broke. Management would not replace it.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Very out of date! TV was old school, and on its last leg, did not work well, needs replaced. Room was very small, not enough outlets, had tv, microwave and fridge all hooked up to the same outlet with a power strip. Old carpets, bathroom has old sink and shower tile needs replaced. Overall the hotel was a &39.00 a night place but they charge $100.00 a night. Poor value for the money. No ice buckets. Everything else is chained down. Staff was excellent doing all they could with what they had.
Cons: See above.
5,0 Okay
Pros: I like the town it was in.
Cons: Room was very old, tired and in need of repair. I can’t say it was the worst room I ever stayed in, but it was a close second. Very unclean and uncomfortable. We couldn’t wait to leave in the morning. Price was too high for such a disappointment.
4,6 Okay
Pros: The location was close to my work.
Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable, no coffee machine, the bathroom had no toilet paper holder, the hot water took 15 to 20 minutes first thing in the morning to get hot, the room was small and dark, there was no soap or other amenities, the bathroom door's hinges were damaged and the door would not shut properly .
6,3 Good
Pros: The bed was very comfortable
Cons: Asked for a handicap room bathroom was not handicap at all no handrails he had to step over a foot curb to get into the shower one chair in the room was on rollers like a desk chair
3,3 Mediocre
Cons: The room is very dirty, the bathroom is broken, there is no light in the room ,all night you can’t sleep because of noise

7,1 Good
Pros: Shower; bed was comfortable.
Cons: Any critters could crawl under the door; very poor lighting; poor excuse for pillows; not enough towels and wash cloths; no place to hang clothes; no number on our door; some of the concrete stairs to the second floor were broken; door frame broken out; T/V hard to operate; some of the rooms stunk when you walked by them because of dirty full time residents; expensive for what you got.
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: The place is very bad, I would not let my dog stay there
Cons: Everything
5,0 Okay
Pros: This place is conveniently located in Grass Valley and not too expensive
Cons: Sadly, the room itself was not wonderful. The toilet seat lid wobbled; the shower head fell off; the shower wouldn't turn off completely - dripped all night .
5,8 Okay
Pros: Manager was nice
Cons: Room needs updating. Bed was uncomfortable
4,6 Okay
Pros: Not much to likeep at all
Cons: Towels ware stained. Pillows were tiny and probably 10 years old. Room smelled like a public restroom that had been smoked in. The deadbolt on the door was missing.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Plain and simple but clean. The staff were pleasant , courteous and very professional. If you simply need a quiet place to rest at the end of a busy day, this is the place for it. The thing I absolutely liked the best is the fact that they keep a box of food items in the office for folks less fortunate than most. I quickly placed all remaining food goods we had brought for our trip in the box when we departed.
3,8 Mediocre
Cons: Ceiling was falling down, room was old and not very clean. Place was more of an extended stay motel than expected. Price was way too much for value. In my 68 years I have never stayed at a worse hotel.
4,2 Okay
Pros: manager never said anything about breakfastcover in someway the hole
Cons: cover the holes from the door frame to give security. Cover the broker area of the air conditioner. Cover the horrible hole in the sink. Change the bath tab drain. Fix the light in the bathroom so when you turn on the light does not make so much noise the fun and you can have light in the bathroom. Once in a while clean the room so the lent and hair doesn't create spider webs in the corners of the room or under the counter. Defrost the fridge when you rent the room to another person so we do not ended all soak when we unplug the fridge so we can sleep because it was too noisy.
1,0 Poor
Pros: Close to center of town
Cons: We had to bring dirty towels down to office for clean ones! The room was never cleaned or tidied up! the bedclothes smelled of cigarette smoke!
2,9 Mediocre
Pros: Dirtiest hotel we’ve ever been to. Body fluids all over the walls.
Cons: Dust on every surface. Crackheads and junkies in every other room.
7,0 Good
Pros: Cheap and clean
Cons: Not for $---.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Location, friendly staff. I think the new manager is trying to improve the property but she has a ling way to go.
Cons: Bed could have been level
