Top tips for hiring a car at Nantes Atlantique Airport

  • Nantes City has a good public transport system, consisting of trams, buses, and car share services as well as bicycle hire; however, the freedom of your own car while traveling is a huge advantage to maximise your sightseeing opportunities on your own schedule and at your own pace. A car hire at Nantes Atlantique Airport will ensure you have maximum freedom and get you set up with a vehicle to suit your needs for whatever you have planned for your stay.
  • At this particular airport, there are no rental desks inside of the building. It is a fairly small regional airport and offers all of the basic facilities a traveller may need on arrival in France, but car hire at Nantes Atlantique Airport is all located just outside of the building. There are signs to direct you to the rental car offices, as well as helpful staff and an information point, though it is easy to navigate this small, efficient airport.
  • When collecting your car hire at Nantes Atlantique Airport, the rental office will give you detailed instructions of the process to return your vehicle at the end of your travels. Depending on the company you have booked your Nantes Atlantique Airport car hire with, you will likely return the car via the designated returns area, which you can find by following the ‘Car Rental’ signs when approaching the airport. An attendant will inspect the hire car with you on return and take the keys.
  • Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays tend to be the busiest days at Nantes Atlantique Airport, with peak activity from morning to afternoon. If you are arriving during the week or in the early or late hours of any day, you will find less crowds and an easier transit from your flight to your car hire at Nantes Atlantique Airport, or vice versa.
  • Book your car hire at Nantes Atlantique Airport at least 2 weeks before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about hiring a car at Nantes Atlantique Airport

  • Where will I find the rental car desks at Nantes Atlantique Airport?

The offices for rental cars at Nantes Atlantique Airport can be found just outside the building, on the esplanade by the car parks. As soon as you exit the Arrivals area of the building, you will see the signs for the rental car companies directing you outside. There is a bus station between the airport and the rental car office, so depending on where you exit the airport you may see that directly in front, and the car rental offices behind. If you simply head towards the car park, you will see the rental company signs to indicate you’ve found the offices.

  • What kind of car should I rent while in Nantes?

Depending on your plans and personal preference, you will find many options when it comes to car hire at Nantes Atlantique Airport. France’s narrow, winding roads may suit a compact rental car, as larger SUVs or vans may make you feel uncomfortable on unfamiliar roads that have not been designed for bigger vehicles. Particularly in the city areas with more traffic, parking a larger vehicle is more difficult than something compact. If however you are traveling in a large group or family, or venturing further into nature rather than sticking to the cities, then a van or SUV may be what you need.

  • What paperwork will I need to rent a car at Nantes Atlantique Airport?

You will always need to provide your full, valid driver’s license for any car rental. In France you may also need to provide an International Driving Permit, and this will be indicated when booking your hire car. Usually rental car companies will also require that you have had your license for at least one year and meet a minimum age requirement of 21. The age requirement can vary between companies, and most will also apply an additional fee to young drivers. You will also need to provide a valid credit card in your name for full costs of your booking.

  • Which car hire companies will pick you up at Nantes Atlantique Airport?

Car hire companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from Nantes Atlantique Airport to off-airport locations include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Europcar, FLIZZR, Hertz, keddy by Europcar, and National.

Very good car, but the in-car GPS mis-directed us on one occasion by not taking road closures under account, and Apple CarPlay worked sometimes and not others.

They charged more when we got there to take the car, even if the reservation was prepaid. They charged us, 400 euros for scratches on 2 wheel caps. We feel they abuse from us.

The car electric/ gas. But there was no cord to charge it. The vehicle has almost 70000 kms. Was really beat and was delivered very dirty. The car seat also was extremely dirty with stains all over.

Car was decent, a little old but not bad. They were friendly and helpful and picked me up at the airport right away when I called. They did not send me the vehicle inspection and contract like they said they would when I picked up the car however when I dropped it off the guy was very helpful and sent it then. We did the car walk through together and had no issues.

Convertible

KAYAK
Rentscape were excellent. However the intermediary company qeeq.com were not and totally ruined our planned break. We had specifically booked a mini convertible but when we got to Rentscape office we were offered a Peugeot 308. The gentleman from Rentscape showed us the request they had from qeeq.com and they had sent in the wrong code. They had no other cars available and we were left with a Peugeot that we would never have booked We have lodged a complaint with weed.com but as of yet we have not had a reply This was a carefully planned trip and a convertible was a key part of this! Totally let down by qeeq.com and no professionalism in their after sales care Very disappointed!

Full-size SUV

KAYAK
They tried to give us a seven year old car that had torn seats and a massive dent in the driver's door. The car had clearly been in an accident. It was also not a large Mercedes SUV, which we'd ordered and paid for but a much smaller Crossover car. We stood our ground and were given a newer Ford Kuga. But it was filthy, had not been cleaned nor checked since it was returned by the previous renter. The agent in Nantes, where we collected the car, Jeremy said he would deduct 40 euro cleaning charge from the hire fee plus we could return it with less fuel. As we travelled on the motorway, we kept hearing a rattling sound from beneath the car. We checked underneath the car and found loose panels, which we tightened at a garage, but the noise persisted. Return at Lyon was ok, but they knew nothing about the fuel arrangement. I will never use Rentscape again.
