Rooms were clean and Tidy...
none - we didnt make breakfast so cant comment on that.. althought there was a lack of activity in the kitchen area!
The location was in a residential area, it feeled quiet and safe. There was a shared kitchen and dining room (with fridge/freezer, microwave etc), which was convenient for preparing dinner and breakfast yourself. We booked a quad-room, it had en-suite shower room and 4 single beds. The room was decent sized, so ideal for family. The room was clean and tidy, with plenty of space to put our stuff. Considering the price we paid (£45), it was good value for money.
There was no staff member to be seen from check-in to check-out. Basically it's more like a private house than a hotel, as there's no reception area. When I arrived, I had to call the number printed on the front door, then once my card payment was taken, I was given the code for the main entrance. Then I was directed to my room (the key was left underneath a door wedge, and I was told to leave the key at the same place when I leave). I mean, there's nothing wrong with it if you prefer a private place all for yourself, but just thinking about other tourists who may have difficulty speaking English or require assistance about the room, this may not be very helpful.
I liked the hotel, however some guests checking in at 01:15 pm didn't realize we were asleep, but trodded around allover the place calling loudly to eachother. I know S:t Andrews personal (which we never met) can't stop them, I guess that is one drawback in not having the staff on site. However I am impressed you are so bold as to keep the place open without any personnel there!!
Only the noisy guests, and it was just a short - but sleep-disturbing - incident.
There was no-one at the premises when we arrived, however, there were instructions on the door with a phone number. We had a query about the corridor lights and the manager came straight away. We were the only occupiers at the time, therefore we had a quiet night's rest.
The bedding felt rather cold and damp and the duvets were rather thin. The duvet covers and sheets were showing signs of age and needed replacing, along with the towels.
Second stay there and very good all round and good value for money
