Small cars are just fine in Europe as parking spaces are also small and gas is expensive. Be ready for manual transmission unless you arrange for an auto before hand…even then they may try to give you a manual.

Do not book with Budget! Call the car rental place in advance to confirm any and all charges before committing to a rental. Otherwise, you will be unpleasantly surprised on the day of pick up!

Our flight was delayed and we were rebooked for the next day. We called budget to let them know and the agent I spoke with advised that the booking was held for 24 hours and added our new flight information and arrival time. When we finally arrived, we were told that they have no cars and claimed that there were no notes about delayed arrival. We ended up renting a car somewhere else, which cost us twice as much. We called budget to let them know of the issue but nothing was resolved.

Total cost for car reservation online was $157. Once I picked up the car, there was an unexpected and additional 80Euro charge if crossing a border with the vehicle. This was never mentioned beforehand. Additionally, my credit card was charged 1400Euro deposit, which was also never mentioned anywhere previously. I called Budget customer service and spoke to an agent, who was extremely rude and unhelpful. I will never use Budget again!

We enjoyed our car rental while visiting Croatia. Checking-in and returning to a different location and the number of days was a reasonable rate. The only downside was the 2,000 euro hold that was placed on our credit card because we declined additional coverage. Also, we were charged an adiitional 17.50 for going on a car ferry. An unexpected up charge that seemed a little dubious.
