When it comes to size, the smaller the better for navigating the intricately designed street system of this town. A mini or economy car is your best bet. Smaller cars will be easier to move to the side of a street to let oncoming traffic pass, and much easier to park on the streets. You won't need too much power of off-road ability when heading out of the centre, as the roads are slightly hilly at times, but nothing like an off-road adventure so a small car with a small engine and good handling will do rather nicely.
If you are planning on visiting neighbouring areas, and you are driving along a motorway, you'll be doing 80 km/h. If you are staying close to Porto Cristo and exploring its immediate areas, you'll be allowed to reach speeds of 70 km/h. When driving in and out of the roads that connect the town, it's recommended that you drive at 20 km/h, especially when there are pedestrians around.
There is plenty of on-street parking spot all over the town. You'll find bay-painted bays and white-painted bays. There are typically more blue-painted bays close to the beach side of the town. These blue bays are paid for on-street parking bays. Free on-street parking is abundant near the bars and restaurants close to the port.
