The bathroom light was on the same switch as the noisy bathroom fan.
The staff are fantastic. The hostal is very cool. It is beautifully located and close to everything. The kitchen is spacious and beautiful. The garden is so pretty and peaceful. The hostal is popular with local travellers and tourists so it is a good place if you are learning to speak Spanish and be with Colombians. I was studying at a local school and found the hostal a good peaceful place to slowly improve my spanish whilst being vibrant enough to feel part of a community. It is a good hostal also if you are staying for a longer time period. The hostal has a nice feel about it. You feel free to relax and get on with your life whilst being able to ask for help when you need it. It is a really good place.
Good showers and sun in the yard
The staff was not greeting and did not seem to care for us.
Very friendly staff, good shower!
Pretty far to Candeleria but also a nice neighbourhood
Staff was friendly and for the most part tried to help out. You have to buzz in to get into the building and doors, even for dorms, were locked with a key. Lockers for each dorm bed included a lock (provided), but not all locks worked. Quick and reasonably priced laundry service. Close to 24 hour supermarket. Convenient public transport to La Candelaria. Considered safe area. Lots of good food options within walking distance.
When I checked out, there was some question over whether or not I paid. Thankfully I had asked for and kept my receipt. Even so, there seemed to be a follow up question about whether I paid the right amount. No hot water. Broken locker. Bathroom ceiling was incomplete, but didn't appear to be under construction; you could basically look up to the attic. Breakfast appeared to be cereal and a small fruit plate. It appears you can pay to have a more extensive breakfast though (due to cards with price lists and breakfast items). There were hardly any people staying here. Vibe was kind of eerie and unwelcoming, possibly due to so few guests. Common areas included a bar area, kitchen and reception area that was like a living room you don't want to hang out in. Neighborhood appears mostly residential with lots of nice (read: not budget friendly) restaurants. Not much to see or do unless you want to do things you do at home (cinema, eat pizza, etc.). Lots of noise from the nearby busy road woke me up at 6. 30+ minutes away from old city center by public transport (~2500 COP one way).
